Book excerpt: But all the kids are wearing them! Any child who has ever craved something out of reach will relate to this warm, refreshingly realistic story. Features an audio read-along. "I have dreams about those shoes. Black high-tops. Two white stripes." All Jeremy wants is a pair of those shoes, the ones everyone at school seems to be wearing. But Jeremy’s grandma tells him they don’t have room for "want," just "need," and what Jeremy needs are new boots for winter. When Jeremy’s shoes fall apart at school, and the guidance counselor gives him a hand-me-down pair, the boy is more determined than ever to have those shoes, even a thrift-shop pair that are much too small. But sore feet aren’t much fun, and Jeremy comes to realize that the things he has -- warm boots, a loving grandma, and the chance to help a friend -- are worth more than the things he wants.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People at certain points of life all over ask questions of wonder—who, how, when, why, or what? There have been thousands of questions from billions of people on or of life, from individual questions to the world to the universe. Some have been solved, while others continually seek out answers. We as a whole intuitively ask more all the time. We all enter the same way, just in different places and times. It proves we’re all connected in some sort of way whether we meet or not. Our existence shows we are here to experience the different highs and lows in between. How that’s executed or accomplished is different for everyone. One needs others to assist us in achieving it or them. We do the same for others in return. We may or may not enjoy the lesson that comes from it. We may not even understand any of it. We may not see value in it, but later we do. Experiences may prove different what we may have learned or believed on the paths we chose. We can be humbled, and we can also do great things. The definition of success is different for each. The definition of right and wrong is the same. We’re all energy. We absorb the energy around us if we allow it to with the influences that create it. These can be fantastic and paralyzing at the same time depending on the many factors that allow it manifest. They are created by beliefs, emotions, and experiences. Whatever allows us to exist is seen as different for anyone. It allows us to make and learn from mistakes if we choose to. It allows us to create our own fate, destiny, and lives with the limited and unlimited resources we are given. The definition of life and success in it is different for anyone you ask. The reality in how one sees and values it is different too. Jack Connor is no different than anyone else. At least he did. Through his experiences he’s had, finding the difficult lessons in it has blessed him with a new outlook toward it. Many things happened that he had no control over. Some experiences could’ve been avoided all together, but Jack chose not to let that happen. He made mistakes and then more. He lived in denial based on fear. Things had to happen for the possibility of change. Some made sense while others didn’t. His actions effected far more than he knew. The lessons learned and the highs and lows of it still continue because of it the decisions he chooses to see life in. Finding hope when there was none, being humbled and rising back. Miracles happening. Finding a new way to live allowed him being placed where he was needed at the right time. It’s something he never expected. There was no guarantee either. But neither was he. What happened to him has happened to others before and will happen to others again. If you allow it to. For whatever reason, one change lead to another which allowed for him to see the perception of how his life was and the place he was placed in for a moment of time. The results of this may never be known fully or until time allows it to. It may take a lifetime or more? And like everything else, the only question he has is what’s next? And why, how, who and when?

Book excerpt: “Boelts lays out Ruben’s ethical dilemma and emotional turmoil without preaching, and his struggle toward the moral choice . . . is both dramatic and genuine.” — Publishers Weekly (starred review) Ruben feels like he is the only kid without a bike. His friend Sergio reminds him that his birthday is coming, but Ruben knows his family can’t afford that. So when Ruben sees a dollar bill fall out of someone’s purse, he picks it up and puts it in his pocket. But when he gets home, he discovers it’s not one dollar or even five or ten — it’s a hundred-dollar bill, more than enough for a new bike just like Sergio’s! Finders keepers, right? Presenting a relatable story with subtlety and heart, the creative team behind Those Shoes pairs up again for a story about how hard it can be to do the right thing.

Book excerpt: This book provides a therapeutic method and a tool for transformation. During a walking process it becomes possible to experience a movement, a kind of shift of consciousness and give spontaneous expression to certain aspects of the behavior, the emotional as well as mental condition, and the life issues of the person one walks. People who are being walked feel accepted and understood in unexpected ways, while those who walk themselves experience liberation from restrictive concepts and a sense of enhanced self-esteem. This book combines the most recent findings of psychotherapy with proven systemic concepts of therapeutic self-experience and provides simple solutions for deep-seated conflicts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Shoes possess magical properties," writes Italian journalist and shoe fanatic Paola Jacobbi. The allure of shoes is so powerful that they have become her fashion obsession, one she shares with millions of women, from Imelda Marcos to Sarah Jessica Parker to Joan Crawford. Here Jacobbi indulges that obsession by embarking on a witty and highly opinionated journey through the styles and cultural significance of women's footwear and our attachment to it. Jacobbi pontificates (sandals are the bikini of footwear); psychoanalyzes (the relationship between shoes and sex); has fiery beliefs (ankle boots are quite simply a no-no); and speculates (there's a little Imelda in all of us). She also offers plenty of sage advice: how to choose the right heel for your physique, how to keep shoes lasting long, why to avoid mules at all costs, and how to judge a man by his footwear. Charming, sassy, and irresistible, I Want Those Shoes! will be a perfect fit for every woman who has ever coveted, rearranged her closet to accommodate, or maxed out her credit card for one more absolutely-gotta-have-it pair of shoes.

Cinderella wasn’t the only one whose life was changed by a pair of shoes. Ask any woman about her favorite pair and you’re sure to get an answer that goes beyond their material design. In Our Shoes, Our Selves: 40 Women, 40 Stories, 40 Pairs of Shoes, actress Bridget Moynahan and journalist Amanda Benchley ask forty accomplished women to recount the memories behind their most meaningful footwear. This collection features stories from icons like Bobbi Brown, Danica Patrick, and Misty Copeland; intrepid reporters like Christiane Amanpour and Katie Couric; and creative forces like Rupi Kaur, Maya Lin, and Gretchen Rubin. Beautifully illustrated with a portrait of each woman and her chosen shoes, the stories explore what most women already know: that what we wear can have power and significance beyond merely clothing our bodies. Our Shoes, Our Selves reveals these remarkable journeys, and the steps these inspiring women have taken to get there.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engrained in our culture is the belief that unbending discipline is the only sure way to success. You must go to the gym five times a week, never order the dessert, and don't even think about buying that dress you keep staring at in the store window. Breaking from such a regimented lifestyle is a sign of weakness, right? Wrong!-and Joyce wants to tell us why. . . Though setting rules in our lives are important, it's just as important that we break them from time-to-time. Structure is a powerful tool, but when diverging from your own goals is seen as catastrophic, it can have a hugely negative effect on us. Balance is a core value in life and every once in awhile we deserve to indulge in a guilty pleasure or two. So don't feel bad about straying from your goals every once-in-awhile and in fact, embrace it: eat the cookie and buy the shoes!
