Book excerpt: This report presents Tables and Figures which summarize the HBP Quality Level Analysis (QLA) for projects completed in 1996, the second season using the latest significant revision to the specifications. The quality Level (QL) for the elements (sieve analysis, asphalt content, and pavement density) and the item composites are summarized. While QL determines Pay Factor (PF), it is also used to rank contractors' performance. The item QL improved 1.3 percentage points in 1996 over 1995. But the incentive/disincentive payments were not sufficient to cause some of the contractors to improve their process control. Both, the better and porrer performing contractors show up with similar rankings from year to year. The QLA specifications essentially are serving satisfactorily. Implementation: The PF formulas were modified for the 1997 season so as to make the pF continuous in relation to the QL, rather than in steps as has been the procedure. It is suggested the methods of applying weight factors to the element QL's for PF calculations be reviewed for possible changes. Some other changes in the specification and computer software are needed.

Download or read book HBP Pilot Void Acceptance Projects in Region 2 in 1997 written by Bud A. Brakey and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summaries and analyses of three Void Acceptance (VA) projects are reported and compared with previous VA and quality assurance and quality control (QA & QC) projects. For two of the three projects, the voids filled with asphalt (VFA) averaged 77% (design criteria was 65-75%) and percent air voids (AV) averaged 3.2% (design target was 4.0%). Because compacted bulk specific gravity field tests were higher than lab-mixed design values, for all processes, field AV and voids in mineral aggregate (VMA) averaged 0.4% below design values. VMA was easily met after field targets were adjusted.

Book excerpt: In 1993, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) recognized that specifying HBP volumetric properties would likely provide superior pavements. A long range goal was set for acceptance to be based on voids properties. Beginning in 1993, a series of void acceptance (VA) pilot projects were let to contract; by the end of 1996, nine had been completed. Six had conventional mix designs. The last three were designed using Superpave technology. The data for the nine VA projects are summarized and compared with data from concurrent CDOT projects under Quality Level Analysis (QLA).

Book Synopsis Nanobiotechnology in Bioformulations by : Ram Prasad
Download or read book Nanobiotechnology in Bioformulations written by Ram Prasad and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-04 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the recent shift of chemical fertilizers and pesticides to organic agriculture, the employment of microbes that perform significant beneficial functions for plants has been highlighted. This book presents timely discussion and coverage on the use of microbial formulations, which range from powdered or charcoal-based to solution and secondary metabolite-based bioformulations. Bioformulation development of biofertilizers and biopesticides coupled with the advantages of nanobiotechnology propose significant applications in the agricultural section including nanobiosensors, nanoherbicides, and smart transport systems for the regulated release of agrochemical. Moreover, the formulation of secondary metabolites against individual phytopathogens could be used irrespective of geographical positions with higher disease incidences. The prospective advantages and uses of nanobiotechnology generate tremendous interest, as it could augment production of agricultural produce while being cost-effective both energetically and economically. This bioformulation approach is incomparable to existing technology, as the bioformulation would explicitly target the particular pathogen without harming the natural microbiome of the ecosystem. Nanobiotechnology in Bioformulations covers the constraints associated with large-scale development and commercialization of bioinoculant formations. Furthermore, exclusive emphasis is be placed on next-generation efficient bioinoculants having secondary metabolite formulations with longer shelf life and advanced competence against several phytopathogens. Valuable chapters deal with bioformulation strategies that use divergent groups of the microbiome and include detailed diagrammatic and pictorial representation. This book will be highly beneficial for both experts and novices in the fields of microbial bioformulation, nanotechnology, and nano-microbiotechnology. It discusses the prevailing status and applications available for microbial researchers and scientists, agronomists, students, environmentalists, agriculturists, and agribusiness professionals, as well as to anyone devoted to sustaining the ecosystem.
