Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As spokesman for God and because of his role in the history of Israel's religion, Hosea is a crucial figure in the Old Testament. He stands near the source of a current of faith and tradition that flows to Jeremiah and Deuteronomy. None surpasses him in the passion and creativeness of his prophecy. He spoke out of a feeling of identification with his God that carries a convincing authenticity. He was a man of tremendous emotional range, able at least to reflect in his own feelings the gamut of divine wrath and compassion. Through his sayings and person Yahweh, the God of Israel, wages his final battle against Baal for the soul of Israel. - Introduction.

Download or read book Hosea written by Grace I. Emmerson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1984-03-01 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Hosea lends itself well to a study of the interplay of traditions and an analysis of the modes of thought that belong to the northern and southern kingdoms. While its origin lies in the northern kingdom, its transmission has been largely in Judah. The history of the transfer of material is not one of uninterrupted continuity and, in tracing this, Emmerson seeks to provide an overview of the specifically Judean influences which can be traced in the book of Hosea, and thus better identify and examine the relationship of northern and southern traditions.
Book Synopsis God's Enduring Love in the Book of Hosea by : Joy Philip Kakkanattu
Download or read book God's Enduring Love in the Book of Hosea written by Joy Philip Kakkanattu and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2006 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joy Philip Kakkanattu provides an exegetical and theological analysis of an important and difficult text of the Old Testament through a synchronic and diachronic reading. Detailed critical notes, which discuss the textual difficulties, accompany the translation of the text from Hebrew. In the detailed exegesis, special attention is given to study of the key terms theologically significant in Hos 11:1-11 against the context of the whole book. The exegesis shows that in Hos 11:8-9 it is not the repentance of Yahweh that causes the withholding of His anger against Israel, but Yahweh's constancy in His election of Israel as His son. More than a change of heart, the decision not to execute the deserved judgement witnesses Yahweh's divine nature. Special attention is dedicated to the parent metaphor employed in Hos 11:1-11. It is concluded that more than expressing the Yahweh-Israel relationship as a father-son relationship, the text speaks of it in terms of parent-child relationship. In the diachronic analysis, the author deals with the origin and formation of Hos 11:1-11.

Book Synopsis Hosea: A Textual Commentary by : Mayer I. Gruber
Download or read book Hosea: A Textual Commentary written by Mayer I. Gruber and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-07-27 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mayer I. Gruber provides a new commentary on and translation of Hosea. Building upon his work that debunked the myth of sacred prostitution, Gruber now goes on to show that the book of Hosea repeatedly advocates a single standard of marital fidelity for men and women and teaches cheated women to fight back. Gruber employs the latest and most precise findings of lexicography and poetics to solve the difficulties of the text and to determine both how Hosea can be read and what this means. The translation differs from classical and recent renderings in eliminating forms and expressions, which are neither modern English nor ancient Hebrew. Referring to places, events, and material reality of the 9th and 8th centuries BCE, Gruber uncovers the abiding messages of the heretofore obscure book of Hosea. As in previous studies, Gruber employs the insights of behavioral sciences to uncover forgotten meanings of numerous allusions, idioms, similes, and metaphors. Judicious use is made also of textual history, reception history, and personal voice criticism. One of the least biblical books now speaks more clearly to present and future audiences than it did to many previous audiences.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to bring people back into what God really wants from us ? relationship with Him. Since the beginning God intended to have an intimate fellowship with us, but we strayed from Him when sin entered into our lives. Through the book of Hosea, the LORD shows us how He cares for us, how He loves us so unconditionally and how He longs and awaits our returning to Him. Come and know the LORD. My prayer is that these small Bible studies be a blessing to all who read them bringing everyone closer to God. God longs for us to be near Him. And I hope this intimacy with Him turn out to be the air we breathe. God bless you! Ali P. Bechel

Book Synopsis Responsibility, Chastisement and Restoration by : Ronald Laldinsuah
Download or read book Responsibility, Chastisement and Restoration written by Ronald Laldinsuah and published by Langham Monographs. This book was released on 2015-05-14 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Old Testament scholars have focused their studies of justice on the eighth-century BC prophets Isaiah, Amos and Micah, giving little or no attention to Hosea. Neglect of Hosea in relation to justice arises from the common notion that he was a prophet of love, and although some studies concede that parts of the book deal with justice, it is often overlooked or given secondary importance to other concerns and themes. In this publication Ronald Laldinsuah addresses this misconception by demonstrating that Hosea was indeed a prophet of justice. Through careful analysis of the text as well as observing both the biblical concept and the secular notions of justice it is observed that justice must perpetuate right and true relationships. In ‘relational justice’ we see the inseparable relationship among humans, and between humans and God – emphasising Hosea’s message of responsibility, chastisement and restoration.
