Book excerpt: "A stirring invitation to join the great adventure for which we were born." -Eric Metaxas, Bestselling Author of Bonhoeffer "Not so much a book but a manifesto, a call to a roaring spiritual resistance." -Lou Engle, Co-Founder of The Call "He was counted among the rebels..." (Luke 22:37 NLT). Have we forgotten crucial aspects of the nature of Jesus? Savior, healer, deliverer, and friend are words that may come to mind when considering the person of Christ, yet in this dynamic book, Pastors Todd and Kelly Hudnall offer a unique take on a forgotten descriptor of His nature: rebel. Holy Rebel invites the reader to not merely admire Christ's rebellion against the kingdom of darkness, but to duplicate that same rebellion. Drawing on references from the Old and New Testaments, Todd and Kelly challenge the reader to forsake passive Christianity for a bold lifestyle that threatens hell's agenda. This book is a clarion call that will both motivate and mobilize believers to resist the very forces that so dominate our culture. Expect to be challenged in your walk with Christ as you arm yourself with righteousness, holiness, and truth. Our children, churches, communities-and even our nation-are at stake. Find a detailed, practical roadmap within these pages to help protect what God has given by resisting the plan of the evil one. Believers are not called to merely go with the flow. Instead, we are called to change the very direction of the tide-and this book shows you how.

Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK: Can rebellion be holy? Certainly, as long as we rebel against things that God abhors. Built around seven powerful expressions of love, Holy Rebellion draws lessons from real-life ministry encounters. Wedged tightly into each story is the most powerful lesson a pastor could ever learn-the message of love. From cover to cover, Holy Rebellion takes the reader on a vivid journey through the most glorious victories and embarrassing blunders in pastoral ministry. From being compared to a primate and proof of Darwin's theory of evolution, to falsely congratulating a woman on her pregnancy, the reader comes face to face with awkward and hilarious moments in ministry. This book also explores the imperfection of pastors who at times fail miserably. Books that gloss over the painful times in ministry that were self-induced do little to edify pastors who struggle with the consequences of their mistakes. Holy Rebellion is fresh, honest, and compelling. **** ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Kevin Moore faithfully serves as the senior pastor of Lamar Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas. Kevin is passionate about preaching the full counsel of God "in season and out of season." His passion for pastoral ministry, however, extends beyond his congregation. Kevin understands the importance of training future leaders who will boldly preach the Word of God. After receiving his Ph.D. in Old Testament from Southwestern Seminary, Kevin launched a pastor-driven approach to fundraising for his alma mater called "Southwestern Sunday." Kevin and his wife are blessed with three beautiful children.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ambivalence towards kings, and other sovereign powers, is deep-seated in medieval culture: sovereigns might provide justice, but were always potential tyrants, who usurped power and 'stole' through taxation. Rebel Barons writes the history of this ambivalence, which was especially acute in England, France, and Italy in the twelfth to fifteenth centuries, when the modern ideology of sovereignty, arguing for monopolies on justice and the legitimate use of violence, was developed. Sovereign powers asserted themselves militarily and economically provoking complex phenomena of resistance by aristocrats. This volume argues that the chansons de geste, the key genre for disseminating models of violent noble opposition to sovereigns, offer a powerful way of understanding acts of resistance. Traditionally seen as France's epic literary monuments - the Chanson de Roland is often presented as foundational of French literature - chansons de geste in fact come from areas antagonistic to France, such as Burgundy, England, Flanders, Occitania, and Italy, where they were reworked repeatedly from the twelfth century to the fifteenth and recast into prose and chronicle forms. Rebel baron narratives were the principal vehicle for aristocratic concerns about tyranny, for models of violent opposition to sovereigns and for fantasies of escape from the Carolingian world via crusade and Oriental adventures. Rebel Barons reads this corpus across its full range of historical and geographical relevance, and through changes in form, as well as placing it in dialogue with medieval political theory, to bring out the contributions of literary texts to political debates. Revealing the widespread and long-lived importance of these anti-royalist works supporting regional aristocratic rights to feud and revolt, Rebel Barons reshapes our knowledge of reactions to changing political realities at a crux period in European history.

Rebellion is an inevitable route God meant for man to arrive the palace of relevance, recognition and respect. Individual mannerisms might differ but all recognized and relevant individuals who have ever lived are rebels or are engaged in rebellion in one form or the other at different times of their lives. Perhaps, no rebellion, no relevance as rebellion has resounding reward. Joseph became relevant because he did not follow in the traditional heritage of shepherd that the Hebrews were famous for in his generation. Jesus became relevant because He made a marked departure from the traditional Jewish religion as it was known at the time. Find out how you can benefit from God-authored and sponsored rebellion to become and remain relevant in your lifetime. There is something seemingly rebellious God planned that you should do to become relevant inevitably in this life and in the life to come.

Book excerpt: Marj Charlier’s The Rebel Nun is based on the true story of Clotild, the daughter of a sixth-century king and his concubine, who leads a rebellion of nuns against the rising misogyny and patriarchy of the medieval church. At that time, women are afforded few choices in life: prostitution, motherhood, or the cloister. Only the latter offers them any kind of independence. By the end of the sixth century, even this is eroding as the church begins to eject women from the clergy and declares them too unclean to touch sacramental objects or even their priest-husbands. Craving the legitimacy thwarted by her bastard status, Clotild seeks to become the next abbess of the female Monastery of the Holy Cross, the most famous of the women’s cloisters of the early Middle Ages. When the bishop of Poitiers blocks her appointment and seeks to control the nunnery himself, Clotild masterminds an escape, leading a group of nuns on a dangerous pilgrimage to beg her royal relatives to intercede on their behalf. But the bishop refuses to back down, and a bloody battle ensues. Will Clotild and her sisters succeed with their quest, or will they face excommunication, possibly even death? In the only historical novel written about the incident, The Rebel Nun is a richly imagined story about a truly remarkable heroine.

Book excerpt: REBEL SONG is a collection of poetry, essays, stories and meditations that reveals a depth of social conviction and the honesty of sincere spiritual struggle. Writing from an Orthodox Christian foundation, the author provides words of necessary challenge and transcendent hope. This is a compilation of philosophical prose, revolutionary verse, and mystical reflections written by a visionary of peace, love, and human rights. Herein are prophetic insights that will stir apathetic minds and arouse slumbering hearts. Provocative, incendiary, and perhaps controversial, this book ultimately resonates with redemptive truth. Through candid self-reflections and his clarion call to the Gospel of Peace, GEBRE MENFES KIDUS reveals the soul and consciousness of a true spiritual rebel.

Focusing on the religious beliefs and political actions of Muslim elites and their followers in Algeria and Tunisia, she provides a richly detailed analysis of resistance and accommodation to colonial rule. Clancy-Smith demonstrates the continuities between the eras of Turkish and French rule as well as the importance of regional ties among elite families in defining Saharan political cultures. She rejects the position that Algerians and Tunisians were invariably victims of western colonial aggression, arguing instead that Muslim notables understood the outside world and were quite capable of manipulating the massive changes occurring around them.
