Book excerpt: HOLDING ONTO NOTHING is Gordon Bishop's first book, begun when he was 19 at the Iroquois Hotel in Manhattan and completed when he was 20 and working as a copywriter for a catalog house in Passaic, New Jersey. In 1959, Mr. Bishop walked into THE HERALD-NEWS, Passaic, and got a job as a reporter. Soon after, he was writing his own general-interest column and winning awards: The New Jersey Press Association's Award for "Best Column" in 1965 and the NJPA's Award for "Best Reporting Against Deadlilne" in 1966. A graduate of Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Mr. Bishop, as a student, became a good friend of his teacher, Paterson Poet Louis Ginsberg, father of the famous avant-garde poet Allen Ginsberg. As a result of their decade-long friendship, Mr. Bishop wrote two books on the Ginsbergs, the first a collection of essays (with pictures) entitled THE FIVE WORLDS OF ALLEN GINSBERG, and a biography, THE GINSBERGS: A FAMILY OF POETS, both of which are scheduled for publication later this year. Mr. Bishop also co-authored a three-act play, THE PURPLE CANARY, dealing with corruption in public school systems and which was presented at the off-Broadway Midway Theater in Manhattan in 1963.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sally L. Fulton invites you to enter intimately into her life as she shares the depth of her grief in the death of her husband, her mother, and her unborn daughter, and comes to terms with regret, finding peace through the writing of these poems. Her poetry of gratitude shows the reader, through clear and lyrical imagery how she discovers meaning and beauty in each moment. Her poetry of dissent reflects the suffering caused by self-interest and calls upon the reader to choose compassion while standing against ignorance and oppression and for social justice. Through the clear imagery of her poems, she illustrates the mystery of nature and reminds the reader of its fragility. The expressions of grief, dissent, gratitude, and illumination in this book leads us to a deeper understanding of the Buddhist principle of interbeing, that we are all a part of something greater that unifies us, and that our common lives are part of that unity as well as the unique mystery of the limitless expressions of life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In rural Tennessee, two young people struggle to make a life in a town rife with poverty, guns, and alcohol. "Holding On To Nothing is a resonant song of the South, all whiskey, bluegrass, Dolly Parton, tobacco fields, and women who know better but still fall for the lowdown men whom they know will disappoint them."--Lauren Groff, National Book Award finalist author of Fates and Furies and Florida Lucy Kilgore has her bags packed for her escape from her rural Tennessee upbringing, but a drunken mistake forever tethers her to the town and one of its least-admired residents, Jeptha Taylor, who becomes the father of her child. Together, these two young people work to form a family, though neither has any idea how to accomplish that, and the odds are against them in a place with little to offer other than bluegrass music, tobacco fields, and a Walmart full of beer and firearms for the hunting season. Their path is harrowing, but Lucy and Jeptha are characters to love, and readers will root for their success in a novel so riveting that no one will want to turn out the light until they know whether this family will survive.

When you do see the way, you will wonder, "Can it really be this easy and simple?" And seeing that there was never anything in the way of freedom can almost be embarrassing. "How could I have never seen it?" you’ll ask. The Way of Nothing: Nothing in the Way explores the obstacles that stop you from reaching your highest desires: enlightenment, eternal peace, or simply ordinary contentment. These obstacles are nothing more than concepts you have that seem real, yet they vanish with insight into the way. It is a wonderful surprise to discover that there has always been nothing in the way of what you want. Best of all, there is really nothing to it! ,

Book excerpt: There is no point talking about it. In fact, there is nothing to talk about. So, what do we have? This is not classical poetry. It is not contemporary either. The words used are simple to mean what they intend. Sentences are easy and sensible. Yet, different poems will to different people, do different things at different times. The poetry is such that you do to the poem more than what the poetry can. That is the potency and is outrageously crazy. The subject is the objective of this book. There is no point talking about it. It can only Nudge you, point at you, for you to touch your own self. How else is one to do that than in their own way? If in the mood to get high, you may go higher. You do not have to, but you will be aware of how something is happening out of nothing. If open and willing, you will arrive at what’s here and now, infinite and ultimate. The whole thing is within, with or without this book. This is a catalyst, or a mirror, or a window, or a game to play. There is no point talking about it, so read!

Book excerpt: The human mind is of the one universal mind. Mind is completely whole and creates through a doubtless focus. The idea in separation among anything is only seemingly apparent. This apparent interaction in separateness to anyone and anything is the very reason for this existence. When this concept of separation is accepted completely, then likewise spawns the apparent psychological bondage of frustration, pain and suffering experienced by one. This sense of separation is framed from a nexus of belief systems which were heretofore undiscovered by the simple clarity of insight. When this system of limiting beliefs is finally illuminated, to that degree will true joy, freedom and manifested preferences begin to shine within one's life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here in this book "God, Science, and the Buddha" my genuine effort is to present the reader with some insight into the existence of life and matter within the concept of universal space-time in order to understand how and why mind is declared by the Buddha as the forerunner of all existence in eternity and infinity of the concept of space-time.Learning to understand the culmination of all the energies contained within the concept of space-time would unify theology, science and the nature in the noble name of God without division into mind based diverse theological images. The rare opportunity in human form of life is too precious to be neglected and wasted within the short span of existence in this sensual realm of life. In order to be comfortable with this understanding the author seeks to discuss scientific revelations in cosmology, physics, and physiology along with theology, religions, philosophy and Buddhism, which explains the existence of the nature in its true form.
