Book Synopsis Glimpses of Oneida Life by : Karin Michelson
Download or read book Glimpses of Oneida Life written by Karin Michelson and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2016-01-01 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glimpses of Oneida Life is a remarkable compilation of modern stories of community life at the Oneida Nation of the Thames Settlement and the surrounding area. With topics ranging from work experiences and Oneida customs to pranks, humorous encounters, and ghost stories, these fifty-two unscripted narrations and conversations in Oneida represent a rare collection of first-hand Iroquoian reflections on aspects of daily life and culture not found in print elsewhere. Each text is presented in Oneida with both an interlinear, word-by-word translation and a more colloquial translation in English. The book also contains a grammatical sketch of the Oneida language by Karin Michelson, co-author of the Oneida-English/English-Oneida Dictionary, that describes how words are structured and combined into larger linguistic structures, thus allowing Glimpses to be used as a teaching text as well. The engrossing tales in Glimpses of Oneida Life will be a valuable resource for linguists and language learners, a useful source for those studying the history and culture of Iroquois people in the twentieth-century, and an entertaining read for anyone interested in everyday First Nations life in southern Ontario.
Book Synopsis Hidden Markov Model by : Fouad Sabry
Download or read book Hidden Markov Model written by Fouad Sabry and published by One Billion Knowledgeable. This book was released on 2023-07-01 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Is Hidden Markov Model A hidden Markov model, often known as an HMM, is a type of statistical Markov model. In an HMM, the system being represented is considered to be a Markov process, which we will refer to as it, with states that cannot be observed (thus the name "hidden"). In order to fulfill one of the requirements for the definition of HMM, there must be a measurable process whose results are "influenced" by those of another process in a certain way. Since it is not possible to directly see, the objective here is to learn about via observing. HMM contains the additional criterion that the result of an event that occurs at a certain time must be "influenced" solely by the outcome of an event that occurs at that time, and that the outcomes of an event that occurs at and at must be conditionally independent of at provided that it occurs at a particular time. Book Synopsis AI 2003: Advances in Artificial Intelligence by : Tamas D. Gedeon
Download or read book AI 2003: Advances in Artificial Intelligence written by Tamas D. Gedeon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-12-01 with total page 1078 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consider the problem of a robot (algorithm, learning mechanism) moving along the real line attempting to locate a particular point ? . To assist the me- anism, we assume that it can communicate with an Environment (“Oracle”) which guides it with information regarding the direction in which it should go. If the Environment is deterministic the problem is the “Deterministic Point - cation Problem” which has been studied rather thoroughly [1]. In its pioneering version [1] the problem was presented in the setting that the Environment could charge the robot a cost which was proportional to the distance it was from the point sought for. The question of having multiple communicating robots locate a point on the line has also been studied [1, 2]. In the stochastic version of this problem, we consider the scenario when the learning mechanism attempts to locate a point in an interval with stochastic (i. e. , possibly erroneous) instead of deterministic responses from the environment. Thus when it should really be moving to the “right” it may be advised to move to the “left” and vice versa. Apart from the problem being of importance in its own right, the stoch- tic pointlocationproblemalsohas potentialapplications insolvingoptimization problems. Inmanyoptimizationsolutions–forexampleinimageprocessing,p- tern recognition and neural computing [5, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, 19], the algorithm worksits wayfromits currentsolutionto the optimalsolutionbasedoninfor- tion that it currentlyhas. A crucialquestionis oneof determining the parameter whichtheoptimizationalgorithmshoulduse.
Book Synopsis Automated Deduction - CADE-17 by : David McAllester
Download or read book Automated Deduction - CADE-17 written by David McAllester and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-12-30 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past 25 years the CADE conference has been the major forum for the presentation of new results in automated deduction. This volume contains the papers and system descriptions selected for the 17th International Conference on Automated Deduction, CADE-17, held June 17-20, 2000,at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA). Fifty-three research papers and twenty system descriptions were submitted by researchers from ?fteen countries. Each submission was reviewed by at least three reviewers. Twenty-four research papers and ?fteen system descriptions were accepted. The accepted papers cover a variety of topics related to t- orem proving and its applications such as proof carrying code, cryptographic protocol veri?cation, model checking, cooperating decision procedures, program veri?cation, and resolution theorem proving. The program also included three invited lectures: “High-level veri?cation using theorem proving and formalized mathematics” by John Harrison, “Sc- able Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Systems” by Henry Kautz, and “Connecting Bits with Floating-Point Numbers: Model Checking and Theorem Proving in Practice” by Carl Seger. Abstracts or full papers of these talks are included in this volume. In addition to the accepted papers, system descriptions, andinvited talks, this volumecontains one page summaries of four tutorials and ?ve workshops held in conjunction with CADE-17.
Book Synopsis Hidden Markov Models by : Robert J Elliott
Download or read book Hidden Markov Models written by Robert J Elliott and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-27 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As more applications are found, interest in Hidden Markov Models continues to grow. Following comments and feedback from colleagues, students and other working with Hidden Markov Models the corrected 3rd printing of this volume contains clarifications, improvements and some new material, including results on smoothing for linear Gaussian dynamics. In Chapter 2 the derivation of the basic filters related to the Markov chain are each presented explicitly, rather than as special cases of one general filter. Furthermore, equations for smoothed estimates are given. The dynamics for the Kalman filter are derived as special cases of the authors’ general results and new expressions for a Kalman smoother are given. The Chapters on the control of Hidden Markov Chains are expanded and clarified. The revised Chapter 4 includes state estimation for discrete time Markov processes and Chapter 12 has a new section on robust control.
Book Synopsis Brain-Computer Interfaces by : Aboul Ella Hassanien
Download or read book Brain-Computer Interfaces written by Aboul Ella Hassanien and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The success of a BCI system depends as much on the system itself as on the user’s ability to produce distinctive EEG activity. BCI systems can be divided into two groups according to the placement of the electrodes used to detect and measure neurons firing in the brain. These groups are: invasive systems, electrodes are inserted directly into the cortex are used for single cell or multi unit recording, and electrocorticography (EcoG), electrodes are placed on the surface of the cortex (or dura); noninvasive systems, they are placed on the scalp and use electroencephalography (EEG) or magnetoencephalography (MEG) to detect neuron activity. The book is basically divided into three parts. The first part of the book covers the basic concepts and overviews of Brain Computer Interface. The second part describes new theoretical developments of BCI systems. The third part covers views on real applications of BCI systems.
