A story that does not lose by contrast with the recently published work of Mark Twain. Joan's thoroughness of purpose comes out in every sentence put into her mouth, and altogether there is the ring of truth about this story. It is very terrible and very grand is Joan's remark when she hears cannon shot for the first time, and the reader feels it too.
