This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 856 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Creativity and Time: A Sociological Exploration by : Juan A. Roche Cárcel
Download or read book Creativity and Time: A Sociological Exploration written by Juan A. Roche Cárcel and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book defends that the pursuit of originality constitutes one of the most important characteristics of creativity, but that originality refers, etymologically, to both origin and originary. Hence, the book is structured into two parts, dedicated, respectively, to the creative categories of origin and the creative categories of originary. Within the former are creation myths, games – the origin of all cultural activity, the dialectic chaos-order, axial civilizations – the germ of our time, and the struggle between generations – a factor of social transformation, and, within the second, creative capitalism, creative work in the context of the global economy of risk and uncertainty, and representative democracy. However, these two concepts are not isolated, but deeply interrelated, in a way that explains how creative originality builds a temporal narrative. It has been dislocated in late modernity and, with it, creativity has been broken.

Book excerpt: Accompanying a major exhibition at The Museum at FIT, Latin American and Latinx Fashion Design Today: ¡Moda Hoy! examines Latin American and Latinx fashion design from the past 20 years, asking “What is Latin American fashion design in the 21st century”? The book seeks to explore the sociohistorical influences and cultural dynamics that have propelled the development of the unique sartorial bricolage that is Latin American and Latinx fashion. Through a series of themes and topics favored by contemporary designers – including Indigenous heritage, art, sustainable design, politics, gender, elegance, and popular culture – it highlights established designers with a strong international presence, such as Isabel Toledo, Carolina Herrera, Rick Owens, Oscar de la Renta, Carla Fernández, and Gabriela Hearst. Accompanied by regional brands and emerging talents, and case studies that take an in-depth look into specific designers, and beautifully illustrated in full color throughout, Latin American and Latinx Fashion Design Today is essential reading for fashion enthusiasts who have an overlapping interest in Latin American studies, and all who appreciate the history and visual culture of fashion and Latin America.
Book Synopsis A Cultural History of Color in the Modern Age by : Anders Steinvall
Download or read book A Cultural History of Color in the Modern Age written by Anders Steinvall and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-08-31 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Cultural History of Color in the Modern Age covers the period 1920 to the present, a time of extraordinary developments in colour science, philosophy, art, design and technologies. The expansion of products produced with synthetic dyes was accelerated by mass consumerism as artists, designers, architects, writers, theater and filmmakers made us a 'color conscious' society. This influenced what we wore, how we chose to furnish and decorate our homes, and how we responded to the vibrancy and chromatic eclecticism of contemporary visual cultures. The volume brings together research on how philosophers, scientists, linguists and artists debated color's polyvalence, its meaning to different cultures, and how it could be measured, manufactured, manipulated and enjoyed. Color shapes an individual's experience of the world and also how society gives particular spaces, objects, and moments meaning. The 6 volume set of the Cultural History of Color examines how color has been created, traded, used, and interpreted over the last 5000 years. The themes covered in each volume are color philosophy and science; color technology and trade; power and identity; religion and ritual; body and clothing; language and psychology; literature and the performing arts; art; architecture and interiors; and artefacts. Anders Steinvall is Senior Lecturer in English Linguistics at Umeå University, Sweden. Sarah Street is Professor of Film at the University of Bristol, UK. Volume 6 in the Cultural History of Color set. General Editors: Carole P. Biggam and Kirsten Wolf

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes a range of Edgar Allan Poe’s writing, focusing on new readings that engage with classical and (post)modern studies of his work and the troubling literary relationship that he had with T.S. Eliot. Whilst the book examines Poe’s influence in Spain, and how his figure has been marketed to young and adult Spanish reading audiences, it also explores the profound impact that Poe had on other audiences, such as in America, Greece, and Japan, from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century. The essays attest to Poe’s well-deserved reputation, his worldwide legacy, and his continued presence in global literature. This book will appeal particularly to university teachers, Poe scholars, graduate students, and general readers interested in Poe’s oeuvre.

Vol. 2 by : Varios
Vol. 2 written by Varios and published by Antonio Machado Libros. This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 965 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Buñuel, 100 años by : Instituto Cervantes
Download or read book Buñuel, 100 años written by Instituto Cervantes and published by ABRAMS. This book was released on 2001 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Luis Bunuel was one of the true creators of the modern cinema. He made over 30 films, working in France, Republican Spain, the United States (at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and in Hollywood), and Mexico, where he died in 1983. Bunuel's films are both subtle and shocking, as deceptively simple as they are rich in incident and striking in the power of their imagery. Inflected by Surrealism, informed by realism, and mediated by the logic of dreams, Bunuel's cinema is astonishingly singular. This book, originally published in Spanish and French, is now presented in a bilingual Spanish/English edition. Illustrations include documentary photographs as well as over 350 film stills, many in color, from works ranging from his first, shocking Surrealist collaboration with Salvador Dali, Un Chien Andalou (1929), to Belle de Jour (1966), The Discrete Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972), and That Obscure Object of Desire (1977). Including the most thorough chronology, filmography, and bibliography available, this is the ultimate book on Bunuel.

Download or read book Towards a New Anthropology of the Embodied Mind: Maine de Biran’s Physio-Spiritualism from 1800 to the 21st Century written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-11-13 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exploration in the history of ideas examines the groundbreaking notion of the embodied mind in its analysis by the French philosopher and politician Maine de Biran (1766–1824) and in its afterlife: consciousness is generated through frequent interaction between the voluntary and the spiritual. The conscious, active self is constituted in its sovereign autonomy, as free and undivided, by an inner act of willful resistance, a physical effort towards its own body and the world. For the first time, a multidisciplinary group of senior and junior researchers from Japan, USA and Europe investigate origins and discursive cross-fertilization of this concept around 1800, an intermediary stage between 1870 and 1945, and its influence upon existentialism, phenomenology, and deconstructivism during the postwar-period and beyond, from 1943 to 2010.
