Book Synopsis Animation in Asia and the Pacific by : John A. Lent
Download or read book Animation in Asia and the Pacific written by John A. Lent and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animation has had a global renaissance during the 1990s, and nowhere is this more evident than in Asia. With the exception of China and Japan, most Asian nations are relatively new to this art form. Over the last decade, countries such as Taiwan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand, as well as China, have acted as major offshore production plants for North American and European studios. One of the spurs for this increase in activity has been the global growth of terrestrial, cable, satellite, and video systems, all demanding large menus of programming, including animation. A second spur has been the exceptional popularity that Japanese animé has enjoyed across Asia, Europe, and the United States. Despite these developments, there has not been corresponding growth of a serious literature covering industrial and aesthetic issues about Asian animation, and the small amount of work that has been produced has not been published in English. Animation in Asia and the Pacific provides the first continent-wide analysis, delving into issues of production, distribution, exhibition, aesthetics, and regulation in this burgeoning field. Animation in Asia and the Pacific also offers vignettes of the fascinating experiences of a group of animation pioneers. The historical and contemporary perspectives derive from interviews, textual analysis, archival research, and participation/observation data.
Book Synopsis The Moose That Roared by : Keith Scott
Download or read book The Moose That Roared written by Keith Scott and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For those of us who love The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, these names conjure up memories of some of the wittiest, most inspired, and relentlessly hilarious half-hours of animation ever produced. There was a kind of gleeful magic to the shows, a cumulative joy that transcended the crude animation and occasionally muddy sound, and it's this quality that was the essence of the legendary Jay Ward and Bill Scott. Jay Ward was the magnificent visionary, the outrageous showman who lobbied Washington for statehood for Moosylvania, and invited the press to a picnic on the floor of the Plaza Hotel's august Grand Ballroom. Bill Scott was the genial, brilliant head writer, coproducer, and all-purpose creative whirlwind, often described as the "soul" of the shows. In fact, Scott even provided the voices for most of the star characters, giving life to Bullwinkle J. Moose, Mr. Peabody, Dudley Do-Right, and George of the Jungle. From their tiny, oddball animation studio, Jay Ward Productions, they created some of the most memorable animation of all time, and gave birth to a family of characters whose undying popularity has cast them forever into the pop culture firmament. With their distinctively unorthodox, artist-friendly philosophy, Ward and Scott attracted some of the most talented writers and voice actors in the industry, and for a time, Jay Ward Productions was a kind of Camelot of cartoons. Now, through exclusive interviews with Bill Scott, Tiffany Ward, June Foray, and dozens of others intimately involved with the Ward epoch, as well as access to original scripts, artwork, story notes, letters, and memos, Keith Scott has created the definitive history of Jay Ward Productions, including episode guides and voice credits for all the Jay Ward cartoons. From the first "Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of a hat!" to the last "Watch out for that tree!", The Moose That Roared is not only the record of a legendary chapter in animation history, but also the story of a rare and magical relationship between two artists who were wildly, exuberantly ahead of their time, and the fascinating story of the struggle to bring their vision of bad puns and talking animals to unforgettable life.

Download or read book Renegade Mystic written by Sean McNamara and published by Mind Possible. This book was released on 2020-11-28 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second edition, with added chapters (described at the bottom). Readers interested in Out-of-Body experiences, Lucid Dreaming, Remote Viewing, Psychokinesis, Energy Healing, Mediumship and contact with UFOs will gain tremendous insights and practice tips by reading this book. Paranormal researchers and parapsychologists will find ample anecdotes to enrich their fields of inquiry. The intersection of modern physics and ancient mysticism becomes apparent inside these pages. This is very much about the traps of spiritual identity, and how certain groups or teachers can lead one astray from one’s true path. This also about self-empowerment after leaving one's teacher or group. In this groundbreaking work, the author reveals his core psychological drives and the events of his life which caused him to question everything and look into the deeper nature of reality. Follow him on his travels around the world, and learn about his experiences, good and bad, while under the tutelage of various teachers. By the end, he shares experiences he’s never revealed publicly. Though spiritually-minded, McNamara keeps his feet firmly on the ground, and abstains from succumbing to mere beliefs. His writing leaves it open for you to come to your own. Even better, he introduces the reader to a variety of methods of exploring consciousness and reality for themselves. A series of essays follows the epilogue, delving even deeper into the complex topics and personal experiences shared by the author. His story begins with the realization that spiritual teachers are as human as the rest of us, and that we don't need to surrender our personal authority to anybody else in order to find the answers we seek. Learn how he reclaimed his power, and how you can too. Finally, this book will help the reader prepare for when it's time to cross over, as much as it will prepare them to engage a deeper part of life now, in this world. Intelligent, entertaining, inspiring, provocative, and educational. This work is sure to be controversial among those who've yet to have their own non-ordinary experience. Traditionalists beware. If you are on a spiritual search, or seeking self-empowerment, you're not alone. This book is not only about the author's personal quest, it's about yours. The book comes with a companion website which includes the original, color versions of the book’s photos and artwork. It also hosts private videos and links to public ones, which will enrich the reader’s experience of the book. The web addresses to these pages are found inside the book itself, in their appropriate chapters. The Second Edition includes new chapters with step-by-step instructions for having Lucid Dreams and Out of Body Experiences. Readers who already bought the First Edition can get the new chapters separately in the book "Renegade Mystic's Concise Instructions for Lucid Dreaming and the Out of Body Experience." Book Synopsis American Wood Type: 1828-1900 by : Rob Roy Kelly
Download or read book American Wood Type: 1828-1900 written by Rob Roy Kelly and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first and most authoritative history of wood type in the United States is now reissued in paperback. This book tells the complete story of wood type, beginning with the history of wood as a printing material, the development of decorated letters and large letters, and the invention of machinery for mass-producing wood letters. The 19th-century heyday of wood type is explored in great detail, including all aspects of design, manufacture, and marketing, and the evolution of styles. Many related trades interacted with wood type production; the book examines the influence of lithography, letterpress, metal-plate and wood engraving, sign painting and calligraphy, poster printing, and type-founding. Long out of print, the book is still regarded by scholars and designers as an invaluable resource for a rich legacy of typographic art. More than 600 specimens of wood type are classified and annotated, as are more than 100 specimens of complete fonts. This reissue includes a new foreword by David Shields, Design Curator of the Rob Roy Kelly Wood Type Collection at the University of Texas at Austin, discussing the renewed interest in the subject since the mid-1990s as well as ongoing research into the history of wood type.
