Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The heart is the most important biblical term for the person's nature and actions. Indeed, the heart is the control center of life. It is the very place where God works to change us. But how does this growth take place? How are Christians to discover the steadfast spirit of David's psalm? In Minding the Heart, Robert L. Saucy offers insightful instruction on what spiritual transformation is and how to achieve it. He shows how renewing one's mind through meditation, action, and community can begin the process of change, but ultimately the final change—the change that brings abundant life—can only come through a vital relationship with God. "The renewing of the heart is an inescapable human need," writes Saucy, "but the solution lies only within the realm of the divine." Drawing from inspiring Bible passages as well as selected scientific studies, Saucy demonstrates how to make lasting change so Christians can finally achieve the joys of becoming more like Christ.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is with the heart that we believe. When we receive Jesus into our hearts, we are declared His own and are transformed into His likeness—into a new person in Christ. The sad reality is that while many Christians truly believe, they struggle to find a clear picture of how spiritual transformation is to take place in their life. Over and over, the Bible points to the heart as the agent of our transformation, but the scriptures do not refer to the physical heart beating in our chests. But could they? What if the physical heart could serve as a compelling model of spiritual development and transformation? Drawing from examples in scripture as well as her own challenges with grasping the concept of spiritual transformation, in The Anatomy of The Heart, JaNeen Dancy challenges readers to take a closer look at the physical heart for insightful analysis of the spiritual heart. The hearts at the center of our physical life and spiritual life may be more similar than we know, and a greater understanding of one may lead to a deeper understanding, and ultimate victory, in the other.

Book excerpt: Renovation of the Heart is an influential contribution from the late Dallas Willard that continues to break ground twenty years after its first release. Helping us to understand how character is formed and where Jesus does his most significant work on our spiritual and emotional health, this book changed a generation’s mind about what it means to follow Jesus—not a matter of sin management but a matter of drawing near and letting ourselves be shaped into the eternal people of God. With reflections on the book’s impact over its life from family, friends, and admirers of Dallas, and supplemental resources for the first time in print, Renovation of the Heart will continue its ministry of liberation-by-formation for years to come. Includes a foreword by John Mark Comer and an afterword by Natasha Sistrunk Robinson.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central organ of the human body is the heart. It circulates the blood throughout the whole bodily system, pumping oxygen and nutrients to the other organs and pulling toxins away from them. Yet we human beings have another “heart”—a spiritual one—that is the true center of our existence. Our spiritual heart is our identity. It is the foundation of our whole being, from which our desires, designs, purposes, will, thoughts, and attitudes originate. Yet, as a result of the fall and our sinful nature, we all have symptoms of “heart disease,” and we need to know how to become spiritually heart-healthy. As the Scriptures say, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” ( Jeremiah 17:9). Every spiritual, mental, and emotional matter—and many physical ones—is rooted in the heart. The state of our spiritual heart affects all aspects of our daily living. Therefore, the condition of our heart will be the condition of our life. Join Apostle Maldonado on a journey of discovery into the purpose, motivations, and potential of our spiritual heart. God wants us to understand how, in Christ, our heart is designed to “pump” life to our entire being—producing mental, emotional, and physical health and removing the toxins of sin. We were created to reflect the heart of our heavenly Father. And God is ready even now to change our heart to be like His through a supernatural transformation!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book draws on “the secret wisdom of Israel” (Qabalistic Tree of Life) to describe the soul’s inner purification, healing and rebirth in Christ rooted deep in the mysterious process and inner silence of non-conceptual contemplative prayer. “Prayer in secret” (Matt. 6:6) is prayer in the unconscious. Using the Tree of Life as a map of universal creation and the individual soul (Macrocosm and microcosm), Centering Prayer and Rebirth in Christ offers a detailed and revealing look into the hidden workings of the Spirit in the soul’s inner depths. When read slowly and thoughtfully, this book elevates the mind, offering what is, for most of us, a new vision of our evolving life in Christ and Christ in us. The essence of Centering Prayer is consenting to God’s presence and action in us and in our life. The work of the Spirit in us aims to bring us from the limitations and disappointments of our false self (over-identifi cation with the separate-self sense of ego and its ill-conceived desires) into the fulfillment of our true self as a spiritual being. As the false self’s obstacles are removed by the divine action, which needs our willing consent and cooperation, our growing freedom to consent becomes cause for increasing peace and joy in the soul. This is a gift of divine love that brings us step by step into the fullness of our life in Christ—which is a continuing rebirth into the limitless light, life, and love of the divine consciousness. The intended purpose of Centering Prayer’s conceptual background is to support the actual practice of non-conceptual contemplative prayer and the wondrous process of inner spiritual unfolding that Centering Prayer facilitates.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The key to spiritual and emotional health is to grasp the truth of God's transforming love for us and then let that reality influence our own hearts and relationships. It seems simple, but we are experts at complicating simple things. Instead of living lives characterized by love we find ourselves trapped in cycles of shame, violence, and addiction that steal our joy and keep us from loving others--so much so that, by all indications, Christians are living no differently than anyone else when it comes to abuse rates, use of pornography, alcohol and drug addiction, and more. Christian psychiatrist Dr. Timothy Jennings wants to release us from this prison. With powerful illustrations from case studies and from Scripture, Jennings shows believers who are stuck in addiction, violence, fear, and broken relationships how to experience true freedom through God's transforming love to experience greater health, fulfillment, and well-being.

Book excerpt: Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (Psalm 139:23, 24). This prayer is a humble cry to God from one honestly seeking a transformation. If there is any offense it isn't in this prayer. It is what God yearns for. Verse one of this psalm expresses a sigh of gratitude from the seeker: "O Lord, you have searched me and you know me." God knows us. Do we know Him? Do we trust Him enough to ask Him to examine us for an offensive way in us? If we are satisfied to live according to the ways of the world, we will never ask God to search our hearts. We will never know God or the freedom that comes from His indwelling presence. Examining ourselves is commendable, but can be deceiving. Trusting God for a true revelation of our heart's condition and asking Him to lead us on our journey is showing wisdom that only He can give. Pleading with God to search our heart is the alternative to claiming to have a fellowship with God but, in reality, are walking in darkness. The apostle John labels such as liars who do not walk according to the truth (1 John 1:6). Transformation: The Servant's Heart--A life of Faith addresses three separate but related issues that challenge every Christian: the slavery of anxiety, hypocritical love, and the pride of life. Transformation is intended to generate a desire for God to search us, and prepare us to walk with Him in a journey of faith and service.
