Book excerpt: ADP 3-0, Operations, constitutes the Army's view of how to conduct prompt and sustained operations across multiple domains, and it sets the foundation for developing other principles, tactics, techniques, and procedures detailed in subordinate doctrine publications. It articulates the Army's operational doctrine for unified land operations. ADP 3-0 accounts for the uncertainty of operations and recognizes that a military operation is a human undertaking. Additionally, this publication is the foundation for training and Army education system curricula related to unified land operations. The principal audience for ADP 3-0 is all members of the profession of arms. Commanders and staffs of Army headquarters serving as joint task force (JTF) or multinational headquarters should also refer to applicable joint or multinational doctrine concerning the range of military operations and joint or multinational forces. Trainers and educators throughout the Army will use this publication as well.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication, “Army Health System,” provides the capstone doctrine for the Army Health System (AHS) in support of the modular force. The Army Health System is the overarching concept of support for providing timely medical support to the tactical commander. It discusses the current medical force structure modernized under the Department of the Army (DA) approved Medical Reengineering Initiative and the Modular Medical Force that is designed to support the brigade combat teams and echelons above brigade units. As the Army's capstone medical doctrine statement, this publication identifies medical functions and procedures that are essential for operations covered in other Army Medical Department (AMEDD) proponent manuals. This publication depicts Army Health System operations from the point of injury, illness, or wounding through successive roles of care within the theater and evacuation to the continental United States (CONUS) support base. It presents a stable body of operational doctrine rooted in actual military experience and serves as a foundation for the development of AMEDD proponent manuals on how the AHS supports the modular force. The AHS is a component of the Department of Defense (DOD) Military Health System. It is responsible for the operational management of the health service support (HSS) and force health protection (FHP) missions for training, predeployment, deployment, and post deployment operations. The AHS includes all mission support services performed, provided, or arranged by the AMEDD to support HSS and FHP mission requirements for the Army and as directed, for joint, intergovernmental agencies, and multinational forces. Although Joint doctrine describes the capabilities of the Military Health System as a taxonomy of care, this description does not adequately address how the AMEDD must organize and equip its forces to successfully accomplish the health care delivery in the noncontiguous operational environment. Therefore, the AHS is in consonance with and supports the concept of the taxonomy of care, but AMEDD support is discussed in terms of capability packages specifically designed to support Army formations. Although the Military Health System is an interrelated system which may share medical services, capabilities, and specialties among the Service components, it is not a joint mission command system. Each Service component develops its medical resources to support its Service-specific mission. This results in the development of different types of organizations with varying levels of capability, mobility, and survivability. Although joint medical resources may have similar nomenclature to describe the unit, they are not usually interchangeable.

This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Army Techniques Publication 4-02.43 remains generally consistent with FM 4-02.43 on key topics while adopting updated terminology and concepts, as necessary. Army Health System support to ARSOF is challenging in that ARSOF are lightly equipped with limited organic support assets. Therefore, they must be self-sustaining in all areas of medical care throughout the range of military operations. Since they routinely operate in undeveloped joint operational areas without established support systems, ARSOF medical personnel must assume both AHS missions of health service support (HSS) and force health protection (FHP) responsibilities. The purpose of Army Techniques Publication (ATP) 4-02.43 is to provide the authoritative doctrine for the Army Medical Department's (AMEDD's) Army Health System (AHS) support of Army special operations forces (ARSOF) as part of the protection and sustainment warfighting functions support to unified land operations. Army special operations forces are those Active Army and Reserve Component forces designated by the Secretary of Defense that are specifically organized, trained, and equipped to conduct and support special operations. The acronym ARSOF represents special forces (SF), special mission units, Rangers, civil affairs (CA), military information support operations (MISO), and Army special operations aviation forces assigned to the United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC), which are all supported by the sustainment brigade (special operations) (airborne) (SB[SO][A]). This publication also discusses joint special operations and provides a limited discussion of other Services capabilities.

Book excerpt: Although readily admitting the importance of combat service support forces, military students and historians alike tend to concentrate on combat and combat support units when studying operations, giving only passing attention to the vital work of the logisticians, signalmen, transport troops, and the rest. This is regrettable, for the operations of combat service support units-especially in a global conflict like World War II with its vast distances and varied terrains-have much to teach us about modern warfare, lessons that remain of surpassing importance to our profession. The Medical Department: Medical Service in the European Theater of Operations supports the proposition that the experience of medical personnel in war directly stimulates advances in medical science. More importantly, it demonstrates that the organization of health care in the combat zones, including evacuation of the wounded, control of disease among troops and civilian populations, and care of prisoners of war, contributed directly to the Allied victory. The exploits of the doctors, corpsmen, and medical support units provide a model for the planning and organization of medical support in today's Army. This volume continues a subseries begun in 1966 with the study of medical support of the Army in the Mediterranean Theater. The Center of Military History will soon complete this project with the publication of a similar study of the very different challenges faced by the Medical Department in the Pacific.

Nearly 90 percent of combat fatalities occur before a casualty reaches a medical treatment facility. Therefore, the prehospital phase of care is needed to focus on reducing the number of combat deaths. However, few military physicians have had training in this area and, at the onset of hostilities, most combat medics, corpsmen, and pararescue personnel in the U.S. military have been trained to perform battlefield trauma care through civilian-based trauma courses. These courses are not designed for the prehospital combat environment and do not reflect current practices in the area of prehospital care. TCCC was created to train Soldiers and medical personnel on current best practices for medical treatment from the point of injury to evacuation to Role 3 facilities

This book was released on 2012-11-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This field manual (FM), “Combat Health Support in Stability Operations and Support Operations,” establishes the combat health support (CHS) doctrine and provides the principles for providing CHS in stability operations and support operations. It is designed for use by personnel involved in CHS planning for stability operations and support operations and command surgeons (at all levels of command) and their staffs. Although the Army's primary focus is to fight and win our nation's wars, it is often employed in stability and support operations. In stability and support operations, the Army executes missions in both peace and conflict: what combat does occur is limited to the minimum necessary to support the political objectives. The primary recipients of combat service support (CSS) in stability and support operations are likely to be civilians (US or foreign), rather than US combat forces as in war. THE CHS planner must be capable of adapting traditional methods of health care delivery, leveraging technology, and establishing new procedures to meet the challenges presented.
