Book Synopsis The Maintenance of Headway by : Magnus Mills
Download or read book The Maintenance of Headway written by Magnus Mills and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2015-05-19 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Booker-shortlisted author acclaimed as having "no literary precedent" (Independent) comes a gently absurd examination of the systems that trap and frustrate us daily. Fans of dry humor will enjoy this tale of mishap and folly, told from the point of view of a bus driver who's been charged to maintain a precise distance between himself and other buses--a directive that leads him to ignore the very passengers he's meant to serve. Witty, allegorical, and intelligent, this is a novel for all those who have ever run for a bus, only to have it pull away as they reach its doors. Showcasing all of Mills' strengths, it is the perfect reintroduction for American readers to an incomparable talent.

Download or read book Headway in Spatial Data Handling written by Anne Ruas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-09 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geographic information is a key element for our modern society. Put s- ply, it is information whose spatial (and often temporal) location is fun- mental to its value, and this distinguishes it from many other types of data, and analysis. For sustainable development, climate change or more simply resource sharing and economic development, this information helps to - cilitate human activities and to foresee the impact of these activities in space as well as, inversely, the impact of space on our lives. The Inter- tional Symposium on Spatial Data Handing (SDH) is a primary research forum where questions related to spatial and temporal modelling and analysis, data integration, visual representation or semantics are raised. The first symposium commenced in 1984 in Zurich and has since been organised every two years under the umbrella of the International Geographical Union Commission on Geographical Information Science (http://www. igugis. org). Over the last 28 years, the Symposium has been held in: st 1 - Zürich, 1984 nd 2 - Seattle, 1986 rd 3 - Sydney, 1988 th 4 - Zurich, 1990 th 5 - Charleston, 1992 th 6 - Edinburgh, 1994 th 7 - Delft, 1996 th 8 - Vancouver, 1998 th 9 - Beijing, 2000 th 10 - Ottawa, 2002 th 11 - Leicester, 2004 th 12 - Vienna, 2006 th This book is the proceedings of the 13 International Symposium on Spatial Data Handling.

Book Synopsis Urban Headway and Upward Mobility in India by : Arup Mitra
Download or read book Urban Headway and Upward Mobility in India written by Arup Mitra and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urbanisation in the literature of development economics is expected to bring in a spectrum of social and economic transformations. With this framework in mind, this book focuses on various aspects of urbanisation in India and its impact on socio-economic variables. The study has been conducted at various levels of disaggregation such as state, district and city and the data is sourced from population census, NSSO's surveys on employment-unemployment schemes and results and consumption expenditure, and primary surveys on slum households conducted by the author. Urbanisation is studied as a process particular to developing countries, contextualising it within the study of India. While this brings about gradual changes contributing to overall growth, the pace is remarkably slow. It brings to the forefront the resilience of the social system that can be mitigated through significant interventions into some of the economic variables. Various policy implications of the evidence based research are discussed at the end of each chapter.
