Book Synopsis Red River Hauntings - TRUE Ghost Stories of Grayson County Texas and Other Strange and Scary Tales - Volume 3 by : Natalie Bauman
Download or read book Red River Hauntings - TRUE Ghost Stories of Grayson County Texas and Other Strange and Scary Tales - Volume 3 written by Natalie Bauman and published by . This book was released on 2017-11-02 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ghost stories and strange tales in this book and the previous volumes, are not just fun scary stories, they are also part of our history. Many of these true ghost stories also contain a great deal of this area's past. Who said history has to be boring, right? (This might be a good way to introduce young people to a love of local history; they love scary ghost stories!). Even if you are not sure about the reality of ghosts or just don't believe in them, it is still an interesting light-hearted read from which one may learn something about the area; and there are many strange, interesting tales which are not about ghosts. The same is also true of Volumes One and Two in this series of Red River Hauntings. I tried to write a book that I myself would want to read, and I think Volume 3 is the best of the series! Some who are Christians may be reluctant to, or refuse to believe in the paranormal. The writer of this book is a Christian as well. Even Christianity allows that there are such things in existence as evil spirits and "ministering spirits" called guardian angels. Who knows what some of these paranormal manifestations really are? There is a very appropriate quote from the character named Esther in a Christian based movie done in 1959 called "Ben Hur" which said "The world is more than we know." I believe that. Christians and Jews will remember Balaam's donkey who saw the army of angels in the road which Balaam couldn't see. Were they there, or not?? They most certainly were, but the man couldn't see them. It is left to the reader to believe what they will and draw whatever conclusions they wish from the articles and stories, but they certainly DO make for entertaining reading. This book will not only recount ghost stories, and identify places reputed to be haunted, but also a few other odd, strange or scary phenomena will be examined which have been found to occur in Grayson County and the near vicinity over the years. (Ghosts and odd occurrences don't always stay strictly confined inside county lines. There may be a bit of "paranormal overflow" into neighboring counties and into southern Oklahoma! Download or read book Main Street written by Sinclair Lewis and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-01-03 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The novel written by Sinclair Lewis is set in the small town of Gopher Prairie, Minnesota, a fictionalized version of Sauk Centre, Minnesota. The novel takes place in the 1910s, with references to the start of World War I, the United States' entry into the war, and the years following the end of the war, including the start of Prohibition. Satirizing small-town life, Main Street is perhaps Sinclair Lewis's most famous book, and led in part to his eventual 1930 Nobel Prize for Literature. It relates the life and struggles of Carol Milford Kennicott as she comes into conflict with the small-town mentality of the residents of Gopher Prairie. Highly acclaimed upon publication, Main Street remains a recognized American classic.

Book Synopsis On Taungurung Land by : Roy Henry Patterson
Download or read book On Taungurung Land written by Roy Henry Patterson and published by ANU Press. This book was released on 2020-12-07 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Taungurung Land: Sharing History and Culture is the first monograph to examine how the Taungurung Nation of central Victoria negotiated with protectors and pastoralists to retain possession of their own country for as long as possible. Historic accounts, to date, have treated the histories of Acheron and Mohican Aboriginal stations as preliminary to the establishment of the more famous Coranderrk on Wurundjeri land. Instead of ‘rushing down the hill’ to Coranderrk, this book concentrates upon the two foundational Aboriginal stations on Taungurung Country. A collaboration between Elder Uncle Roy Patterson and Jennifer Jones, the book draws upon Taungurung oral knowledge and an unusually rich historical record. This fine-grained local history and cultural memoir shows that adaptation to white settlement and the preservation of culture were not mutually exclusive. Uncle Roy shares generational knowledge in this book in order to revitalise relationships to place and establish respect and mutual practices of care for Country.

Book Synopsis The Life and Work of Sigmund Freud by : Ernest Jones
Download or read book The Life and Work of Sigmund Freud written by Ernest Jones and published by Plunkett Lake Press. This book was released on 2019-08-09 with total page 763 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ernest Jones’s three-volume The Life and Work of Sigmund Freud was first published in the mid-1950s. This edited and abridged volume omits the portions of the trilogy that dealt principally with the technical aspects of Freud’s work and is designed for the lay reader. Jones portrays Freud’s childhood and adolescence; the excitement and trials of his four-year engagement to Martha Bernays; his early experiments with hypnotism and cocaine; the slow rise of his reputation and constant battles against distortion and slander; the painful defections of close associates; the years of international eminence; the onset of cancer and his stoicism in the face of an agonizing death. “One of the outstanding biographies of the age... It gives us an unmatched — and unretouched — portrait of Freud as a human being.” — The New York Times “The definitive life of Freud and one of the great biographies of our time... Charged with intellectual excitement, it is a chronicle of heroic struggle and adventurous discovery.” — The Atlantic “A landmark of literature, a remarkable appreciation of one of the remarkable spirits of the modern age.” — Scientific American “Superb drama... Dr. Jones has managed to illuminate some obscure corners of Freud’s first years with a thoroughness that would have astonished, and might well have dismayed, the reticent and august Freud.” — The New Yorker “A masterpiece of contemporary biography... The letters are also a fascinating guide to the man. From them emerges suddenly a tough, jealous, ferocious figure.” — Time
