Largemouth bass aquaculture is now widespread across the USA and increasingly in other countries worldwide: the largemouth bass aquaculture industry in China is particularly strong. Largemouth Bass Aquaculture provides comprehensive coverage of all aspects of the farming of largemouth bass, with chapters encompassing all major areas of importance, including: their history, production, environment requirements, reproduction, culture methods, diseases and major markets. Many of the world experts in the field have contributed chapters to this landmark publication and the editors are very well-known and respected worldwide. The book is fully international in scope, drawing information from all major countries where largemouth bass are farmed. Largemouth Bass Aquaculture is an important resource for those working in aquaculture, including fish farm operatives and managers, veterinarians and fish health managers, inspectors and consultants. Personnel within companies supplying the aquaculture industry with feed, technical equipment and pharmaceuticals will find a wealth of useful information within this book. Libraries in all universities and establishments teaching and researching aquaculture, fish biology, ichthyology, fisheries, aquatic sciences and veterinary studies should have copies of this comprehensive book on their shelves. 5m Books

Book Synopsis The Development of Fishery Compartments and Population Rate Coefficients for Use in Reservoir Ecosystem Modeling by : George R. Leidy
Download or read book The Development of Fishery Compartments and Population Rate Coefficients for Use in Reservoir Ecosystem Modeling written by George R. Leidy and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of analyses designed to develop model fishery compartments and associated fish population rate coefficients on a regional basis for use in reservoir ecosystem modeling are presented. Emphasis is directed toward development of regional rate coefficients for the United States corresponding to major geographical drainage areas. Fishery data will be incorporated in the reservoir ecosystem model currently being developed by personnel of the Environmental Effects Laboratory, U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station. Known physical, chemical, and fishery conditions in 187 Corps of Engineers (CE) impoundments larger than 500 acres are described. Multivariable equations are presented that allow estimation of standing crop and sport fish harvest in CE reservoirs. Data were also reviewed and summarized on the ecological growth and assimilation efficiencies of fish, food consumption rates, respiration rates, temperature tolerances, half-saturation constants for growth, and chemical composition.

Book Synopsis Aquaculture Pond Fertilization by : Charles C. Mischke
Download or read book Aquaculture Pond Fertilization written by Charles C. Mischke and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-07-10 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ponds are a primary production system to a wide variety of freshwater fish species. Each species have specific and unique nutrient needs and successful pond fertilization is critical to a successful aquaculture enterprise. Aquaculture Pond Fertilization: Impacts of Nutrient Input on Production provides state-of-the-art information for successful fertilization strategies for a broad range of pond-raised species. Aquaculture Pond Fertilization attempts to rectify the seemingly contradictory nutrient recommendations by clearly defining the goals of specific types of aquaculture. Chapters are divided into three sections: The first reviews basic concepts in fertilization applicable to all pond-based production. The second looks at specific nutrient management approaches. The third and final section of chapters looks specifically at key freshwater pond species ranging from tilapia to perch and discusses specific fertilization needs for the successful rearing of these in-demand fish. Looking across species with chapters contributed by leaders in the field Aquaculture Pond Fertilization provides succinct single-volume coverage of an oft-neglected, but vitally important topic in aquaculture production.
Book Synopsis Lake and Reservoir Restoration by : G. Dennis Cooke
Download or read book Lake and Reservoir Restoration written by G. Dennis Cooke and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lake and Reservoir Restoration deals with the eutrophication process and the methods to protect, restore, and manage lakes and reservoirs. The most common in-lake techniques or procedures, plus nutrient diversion, are reviewed with regard to their scientific basis, methods of application, known effectiveness, feasibility, drawbacks, and costs. Areas for further research and development are also highlighted. This book is comprised of 16 chapters organized into four sections. After an introduction to the theory of the problem and the restoration technique, the discussion turns to the various restoration methods such as those used for physical and chemical control of nutrients. Diversion and advanced waste treatment, hypolimnetic withdrawal, and dilution and flushing are considered along with phosphorus precipitation and inactivation, sediment oxidation, sediment removal, and hypolimnetic aeration. Case studies and success stories are presented and the costs and potential negative impacts of the methods are examined. The following chapters focus on methods to control plant biomass, including artificial circulation, water-level drawdown, harvesting, biological control, and surface and sediment covers. A chapter on liming acidified lakes concludes this text. This monograph will be useful to professional limnologists and engineers, on-site lake or reservoir managers, and those who are interested in learning about the problems and management of lakes and reservoirs.
