Book Synopsis Handbook of Surfactants by : M.R. Porter
Download or read book Handbook of Surfactants written by M.R. Porter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The worldwide consumption of surfactants now exceeds several million tonnes per annum. Six ofthe major types represent approximately 80% ofthe volume consumed, whereas the remaining 20% is made up of approximately 40 different chemical types. Commercially produced surface active agents are not pure chemicals, and within each chemical type there can be tremendous variation. Technical staff who are not familiar with surfactants are frequently bewildered by the enormous variety of different products on the market and the vast body of literature which exists on the composition and properties of surfactants. The selection of the best surfactant for any given use therefore becomes a major problem. This volume arose from the clear need to have available a simple reference book summarising the different types of surfactants on the market and their properties. The concept and structure of the book evolved from early attempts to define chemical structure/property relationships of all the different types of surfactants commercially available, into a simple handbook providing essential background information for the surfactant user. It is realised that most users will be developing their own data bank of structure/end use property relationships and they will therefore be the experts on end use.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surfactants are used throughout industry as components in a hugerange of formulated products or as effect chemicals in theproduction or processing of other materials. A detailedunderstanding of the basis of their activity is required by allthose who use surfactants, yet the new graduate or postgraduatechemist or chemical engineer will generally have little or noexperience of how and why surfactants work. Chemistry & Technology of Surfactants is aimed at newgraduate or postgraduate level chemists and chemical engineers atthe beginning their industrial careers and those in later life whobecome involved with surfactants for the first time. The book is astraightforward and practical survey of the chemistry ofsurfactants and their uses, providing a basic introduction tosurfactant theory, information on the various types of surfactantand some application details. This will allow readers to build ontotheir scientific education the concepts and principles on which thesuccessful use of surfactants, across a wide range of industries,is based.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Surfactant Analysis: Chemical, physico-chemical and physical methods is a translation of the successful German book Analyse der Tenside, and incorporates the leading chemical, physio-chemical and physical methods of surfactant analysis, with special emphasis on infrared spectroscopy. Since the first edition of Analyse der Tenside (1962) no other book has come close to dealing exclusively with the many analytical methods for this important group of substances. The scope of this book is broad, with coverage not only of analytical data, but also of important data relevant to the industrial production and uses of various classes of compounds. The fundamental principles and applications of modern spectroscopic and electroanalytical techniques, now playing an increasingly important role as routine methods in analytical practice, are also described. The book is richly and informatively illustrated and includes a comprehensive and up-to-date bibliography. Chapter topics include: * Structural characteristics and classifications of surfactants * Sample preparation, isolation and characterisation of surfactants * Detection of interfacially active ions * Controlled decomposition * Separation of mixtures of surfactants * Methods of quantitative analysis of surfactants * Spectrometry and electrometry * Other physical and physico-chemical methods

A surfactant is briefly defined as a material that can greatly reduce the surface tension of water when used in very low concentrations. These are one of many different compounds that make up a detergent. They are added to remove dirt from skin, clothes and household articles particularly in kitchens and bathrooms. They are also used extensively in industry. A disinfectant or agent that frees from infection is ordinarily a chemical agent which kills disease germs or other harmful microorganisms and is applied to inanimate objects. The specific way in which a disinfectant agent is used is dependent on both the desired objective and the infectious agent present. Growing emphasis on health, safety and sanitation is fuelling demand for disinfectants & surfactants across industries such as food processing, healthcare and consumer. Personal care industry in India is very huge and is one of the main key drivers for Indian surfactants market. Surfactants industry has a large market for consumer products. Download or read book Handbook of Industrial Water Soluble Polymers written by Peter A. Williams and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural and synthetic water soluble polymers are used in a wide range of familiar industrial and consumer products, including coatings and inks, papers, adhesives, cosmetics and personal care products. They perform a variety of functions without which these products would be significantly more expensive, less effective or both. Written for research, development and formulation chemists, technologists and engineers at graduate level and beyond in the fine and specialty chemicals, polymers, food and pharmaceutical industries, the Handbook of Industrial Water Soluble Polymers deals specifically with the functional properties of both natural and synthetic water soluble polymers. By taking a function based approach, rather than a “polymer specific” approach the book illustrates how polymer structure leads to effect, and shows how different polymer types can be employed to achieve appropriate product properties.
