Book Synopsis Proceedings of the First Workshop on Quark-Hadron Duality and Transition to PQCD by : Alessandra Fantoni
Download or read book Proceedings of the First Workshop on Quark-Hadron Duality and Transition to PQCD written by Alessandra Fantoni and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While perturbative QCD methods fully describe experimental results at high energies, and chiral perturbation theory is the low energy effective theory of the strong interactions, a form of duality is observed connecting these two regimes. In these intermediate kinematics, a wide variety of reactions are observed which can be described simultaneously by single particle (quark) scattering, and by exclusive resonance (hadron) scattering. The contributions in this proceedings volume discuss recent and existing results, and aim to foster current and future research, investigating the phenomenon of quark-hadron duality. This unique volume contains research work by scientists from different arenas of hadronic physics, dealing with different manifestations of quark-hadron duality. Sample Chapter(s). This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last decade has been witness to many exciting and rapid developments in the fields of Nuclear Physics and Intermediate Energy Physics, the interface between Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics. These developments involved to a large extent the sub nucleonic degrees of freedom in nuclei. In deep inelastic lepton scattering from nuclei, for example, it was observed that the quark structure of the nucleon is influenced by the nuclear medium. Also, the spin-dependent structure function of the nucleon was found to differ from sum rules based on SU(3) symmetry, a discrepancy referred to as the "spin crisis". In pion electroproduction at threshold and in the production of pions and other mesons in heavy ion collisions at intermediate energies interesting experimental results have been obtained, which triggered lively theoretical discussions. Furthermore, the search for the quark-gluon plasma phase of hadronic matter, a phase that is supposed to have existed in the first few seconds of the Big Bang, has been intensified. Not only were these developments accompanied by technical developments, such as the building of new experimental facilities, but also extensive theoretical efforts have been directed towards understanding these phenomena. These concerted efforts will hopefully lead to an understanding of the transition from the non-perturbative QCD regime to the perturbative one, in which the quark structure of nucleons is better understood. All of the aforementioned developments occur at a high pace, making it difficult to incorporate them into the courses offered to advanced students.

Book Synopsis Probing Hadrons with Leptons by : G. Preparata
Download or read book Probing Hadrons with Leptons written by G. Preparata and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physicists actively engaged in advanced research should be en couraged to discuss results and deepen their theoretical understand ing of the data. It is practically impossible nowadays to achieve the goal of the old times when small groups of scientists had the privilege of debating their ideas and the details of their experi ments in an informal and friendly way. Conferences are now too wide in scientific coverage and, in consequence, there are often too many participants. The Highly Specialized Seminars of the Ettore Majorana Centre for Scientific Culture are intended to provide such a forum for scientists of outstanding reputation in their fields to exchange information. This volume deals with one of the most interesting topics in subnuclear physics, and Professor Giuliano Preparata is one of the world's leaders in the field. This volume contains the most recent results on the study of deep inelastic phenomena, using neutrinos, muons and electrons against nucleons, and (e+e- ) interactions. It represents our best knowledge of the field as given by some of the most distinguished world experts in the theoretical and experimental domain. Antonino Zichichi, Director Ettore Majorana Centre for Scientific Culture v PREFACE In March 1979, about 50 physicists gathered in Erice to parti cipate in the Fourth Highly Specialized Seminar on "Probing Hadrons with Leptons."
Book Synopsis Hadron Physics by : I.J. Douglas MacGregor
Download or read book Hadron Physics written by I.J. Douglas MacGregor and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-07-07 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Straddling the traditional disciplines of nuclear and particle physics, hadron physics is a vital and extremely active research area, as evidenced by a 2004 Nobel prize and new research facilities, such as that scheduled to open at CERN. Scientifically it is of vital importance in extrapolating our knowledge of quark-gluon physics at the sub-nucleon level to provide a wider perspective of strongly interacting hadrons, which make up the vast bulk of known matter in the Universe. Through detailed, pedagogical chapters contributed by key international experts, Hadron Physics maps out our contemporary knowledge of the subject. It covers both the theoretical and experimental aspects of hadron structure and properties along with a wide range of specific research topics, results, and applications. Providing a full picture of activity in the field, the book highlights three particular areas of current research: computational lattice hadron physics, the structure and dynamics of hadrons, and generalized parton distributions. It provides a solid introduction, includes background theory, and presents the current state of understanding of the subject.
