Book Synopsis The Seventh Age of Man by : Muriel Cassel-Piccot
Download or read book The Seventh Age of Man written by Muriel Cassel-Piccot and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-23 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Seventh Age of Man: Issues, Challenges, and Paradoxes is a collection of academic essays on Old Age. The contributors come from a wide range of fields of expertise, which accounts for the originality of the book. Depending on their respective disciplines, the authors resort to various methodological approaches, from sociological case studies to discourse analysis, and from historical and political theories to media criticism, but they often address similar questions – when are people to be considered as old, what does it mean to be old, how do we deal with ageing – and reach similar conclusions about the paradoxical representations of the elderly, whether in Renaissance Europe or in contemporary China. Although men and women are sometimes treated differently, in most societies, the older generation is alternately perceived as a threat and a burden, or as financial and moral support. If they are often criticized or ridiculed, especially when they try to retain their youthful looks long after their prime, the elderly also trigger a feeling of nostalgia as representatives of a past usually seen as more desirable than the present. Their resilience and independence are regularly emphasized, as well as their wisdom, as a result of their long experience, which helps them to contemplate their ends more serenely and which might turn them into models for their contemporaries.
Book Synopsis Health Research Practices in a Digital Context by : Laurent Morillon
Download or read book Health Research Practices in a Digital Context written by Laurent Morillon and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-12-03 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current “generalized digitization” of society is influencing the health environment, healthcare organizations as well as actors. In this context, human and social sciences deconstruct, nuance and sometimes even challenge certain preconceived ideas and/or dominant discourses. In this book, researchers of four nationalities and three different disciplines have agreed to open the “black box” of their work. They display their scientific practices from the perspective of epistemology, ethics and methodology. They present and analyze their values and postulates but, also, what may have influenced the project, the definition of the object and objectives, as well as their approaches. In a contextual way, the first part presents some changes in environments and infocommunicational practices related to digital health. The second part opens space to reflect on ethics and deontology. Finally, postulating that scientific fact is not an essence but the result of a process, the last part discusses the methods implemented, which may be different from those initially envisaged. This book is dedicated to the researchers and postgraduate students in the human and social sciences as well as the health practitioners likely to collaborate with them.

Book Synopsis Habiter et vieillir by : Monique MEMBRADO
Download or read book Habiter et vieillir written by Monique MEMBRADO and published by Eres. This book was released on 2013-02-21 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis The re-emergence of co-housing in Europe by : Lidewij Tummers
Download or read book The re-emergence of co-housing in Europe written by Lidewij Tummers and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across Europe, the number of co-housing initiatives is growing, and they are increasingly receiving attention from administrators and professionals who hold high expectations for urban liveability. Is co-housing a marginal idealist phenomenon, or the urban middle class’ answer to the current housing crisis? And has the development of theoretical insight and research kept up with the actual expansion of co-housing as a practice? These questions were raised during the first European conference on co-housing research, which took place in Tours, France, in March 2012. Both the conference and this book aim to move beyond case-studies, and to look more particularly at the implications and wider perspective of the current co-housing trend. Using the specific vocabulary of different disciplines and geographic regions, the contributions to this book analyse the underlying thinking behind, and the expectations projected on, diverse models of collaborative housing. The authors are aware of the qualities of contemporary co-housing, but they go beyond advocacy to investigate the conditions under which co-housing can be successful as a strategy for housing provision; can offer solutions for sustainable urban development; or indeed can contribute to involuntary or intentional gentrification. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Urban Research and Practice.

Book Synopsis Age-Friendly Cities and Communities in International Comparison by : Thibauld Moulaert
Download or read book Age-Friendly Cities and Communities in International Comparison written by Thibauld Moulaert and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The supportive role of urban spaces in active aging is explored on a world scale in this unique resource, using the WHO’s Age-Friendly Cities and Community model. Case studies from the U.S., Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, and elsewhere demonstrate how the model translates to fit diverse social, political, and economic realities across cultures and continents, ways age-friendly programs promote senior empowerment, and how their value can be effectively assessed. Age-friendly criteria for communities are defined and critiqued while extensive empirical data describe challenges as they affect elders globally and how environmental support can help meet them. These chapters offer age-friendly cities as a corrective to the overemphasis on the medical aspects of elders’ lives, and should inspire new research, practice, and public policy. Included in the coverage: A critical review of the WHO Age-Friendly Cities Methodology and its implementation. Seniors’ perspectives on age-friendly communities. The implementation of age-friendly cities in three districts of Argentina. Age-friendly New York City: a case study. Toward an age-friendly European Union. Age-friendliness, childhood, and dementia: toward generationally intelligent environments. With its balance of attention to universal and culture-specific concerns, Age-Friendly Cities and Communities in International Comparison will be of particular interest to sociologists, gerontologists, and policymakers. “Given the rapid adoption of the age-friendly perspective, following its development by the World Health Organization, the critical assessment offered in this volume is especially welcome”. Professor Chris Phillipson, University of Manchester

This book was released on 2022-03-31T00:00:00Z with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis World Report on Ageing and Health by : World Health Organization
Download or read book World Report on Ageing and Health written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2015-10-22 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The WHO World report on ageing and health is not for the book shelf it is a living breathing testament to all older people who have fought for their voice to be heard at all levels of government across disciplines and sectors. - Mr Bjarne Hastrup President International Federation on Ageing and CEO DaneAge This report outlines a framework for action to foster Healthy Ageing built around the new concept of functional ability. This will require a transformation of health systems away from disease based curative models and towards the provision of older-person-centred and integrated care. It will require the development sometimes from nothing of comprehensive systems of long term care. It will require a coordinated response from many other sectors and multiple levels of government. And it will need to draw on better ways of measuring and monitoring the health and functioning of older populations. These actions are likely to be a sound investment in society's future. A future that gives older people the freedom to live lives that previous generations might never have imagined. The World report on ageing and health responds to these challenges by recommending equally profound changes in the way health policies for ageing populations are formulated and services are provided. As the foundation for its recommendations the report looks at what the latest evidence has to say about the ageing process noting that many common perceptions and assumptions about older people are based on outdated stereotypes. The report's recommendations are anchored in the evidence comprehensive and forward-looking yet eminently practical. Throughout examples of experiences from different countries are used to illustrate how specific problems can be addressed through innovation solutions. Topics explored range from strategies to deliver comprehensive and person-centred services to older populations to policies that enable older people to live in comfort and safety to ways to correct the problems and injustices inherent in current systems for long-term care.

Book Synopsis Getting Wise about Getting Old by : Véronique Billette
Download or read book Getting Wise about Getting Old written by Véronique Billette and published by Purich Books. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A grey tsunami is sweeping the land, wreaking social and financial havoc in its wake. Sound familiar? This myth about aging, along with twenty-eight others, is the focus of Getting Wise about Getting Old, which paints a far more accurate and nuanced portrait of old age. In it, experts debunk myths and persistent stereotypes about aging on a broad array of social issues – from retirement (seniors are low-performance workers) to housing (most older adults live in long-term care accommodation), and violence (senior women are not victims of sexual assault) to political participation (seniors are conservative and resistant to change) – deconstructing and countering them with the latest findings. The work of two leading research groups in Quebec, the short and accessible chapters of this vitally important book contribute to a better understanding of the social challenges, as well as the advantages, of an aging society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
