This book was released on 2005 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Standard presents guidelines and conventions for the contents, display, construction, testing, maintenance, and management of monolingual controlled vocabularies. This Standard focuses on controlled vocabularies that are used for the representation of content objects in knowledge organization systems including lists, synonym rings, taxonomies, and the thesauri. This Standard should be regarded as a set of recommendations based on preferred techniques and procedures. Optional procedures are, however, sometimes described, e.g., for the display of terms in a controlled vocabulary. This primary purpose of vocabulary control is to achieve consistency in the description of content objects and to facilitate retrieval. Vocabulary control is accomplished by three principal methods: defining the scope, or meaning, of terms; using the equivalence relationship to link synonymous and nearly synonymous terms; and distinguishing among homographs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This detailed book is a “how-to” guide to building controlled vocabulary tools, cataloging and indexing cultural materials with terms and names from controlled vocabularies, and using vocabularies in search engines and databases to enhance discovery and retrieval online. Also covered are the following: What are controlled vocabularies and why are they useful? Which vocabularies exist for cataloging art and cultural objects? How should they be integrated in a cataloging system? How should they be used for indexing and for retrieval? How should an institution construct a local authority file? The links in a controlled vocabulary ensure that relationships are defined and maintained for both cataloging and retrieval, clarifying whether a rose window and a Catherine wheel are the same thing, or how pot-metal glass is related to the more general term stained glass. The book provides organizations and individuals with a practical tool for creating and implementing vocabularies as reference tools, sources of documentation, and powerful enhancements for online searching.

This encyclopedic authoritative reference will be your best investment in this subject matter, ever. More about this encyclopedic authoritative reference The "Principles of 'BlockChain'" were naturally discovered out of a need to create a governance and operating system for the world's first "peer-to-peer (P2P) electronic finance system-network" for the trade in non-bank, non-institutional, non-syndicated, non-regulated or regulatory exempt, free trading securities and related financial instruments; commencing from at least as early as August 14, 2001. As a reminder, before you invest or spend any money on "BlockChain"-anything, or "crypto"-anything; learn from from the person who first discovered and then commercialized it, since at least as early as April 9, 2005 at www.privatelender.org; a person who also happens to be the world's leading authority on National and International Standards-Class NISC™ (in at least 119 countries), Quality Management System-integrated, regulatory-integrated, litigation-tested, BlockChain-based Systems, Technology, Services and Products. WARNING: If you have any question of comprehension or understanding, seek professional counsel before you - another friendly reminder - spend even one more unit of fiat currency ("real" money) on any "BlockChain" or "Crypto" project. Ask your local legislator, lawyer or, in the future your local conformity scientist and PROFESSIONAL BLOCKCHAINEER™/®. Remember this authoritative encyclopedic reference is written by the person who developed the world's first commercialized an application of the "Principles of 'BlockChain'" in Commerce for a peer-to-peer electronic finance system. A body of transmundane knowledge encompassing a variety of knowledge disciplines. Having built "it" first and having built "it" right, means - despite being the CEO of a commercial finance sector organization - the Author is more or less "under the radar" from the scrutiny of the general public due to successful application of the sub-principle "effective disintermediation"; as such, nobody on Earth has really been afforded an opportunity to "look behind the history" - in a single, primary source compendium - to see how delicate, comprehensive, complex and beneficial conformity science and the "Principles of 'BlockChain'", truly are. Not to mention the painstaking diligent years of maintaining the momentum. If you, your family, your company or your country is even "thinking" about investing limited sovereign resources and valuable time into the "Principles of 'BlockChain'", "crypto"-anything, "token"-anything and related matters (or want to be an authority on the subject), then learn about its origins, its regulatory-scrutinized, litigation-tested commercial applications of the present-day, and its future. Especially if you are (or will be, one day) employed as a Head of State, Legislator, Policymaker, Regulator, Lawyer, member of "Top Management" (Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or Board Member of a regulated or non-regulated Organization, Academic (student, undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, post-doctoral research), Journalist, Professional Liability Insurer, Investor, Head of a Family Office; or, if you are your normal, everyday person, just curious about the world. This work of scientific-commercial-regulatory-financial literature is both a public service and an introduction to the foundational body of knowledge that led to the discovery of the "Principles of 'BlockChain'", the birth of binary digit non-bank, non-institutional, non-syndicated, non-regulated or regulatory exempt, free trading securities and related financial instruments; also known as Peer-to-Peer (P2P)/Private/Crypto/Secret/Shadow securities and related financial instruments; Binary Digit Financial Instruments or Digital Assets and the Discovery of Conformity Science. It is the foundation of evolutionary digital commerce (a new field of science for the study of the evolutionary (revolutionary, perhaps?) processes related to the discovery of the "Principles of 'BlockChain'" and production of binary digit financial instruments (digital assets), systems, technologies, services and products. The body of evidence - as you would expect from the creator of a system built on principles that creates trust through transparency, immutability, validation, traceability and verifiability - is itself, traceable, verifiable, immutable and transparent. You will not find this content anywhere else. MQCC is the point of origination. The Bungay Unification of Quantum Processes Algorithm: when Quantum Unification Theory met Commerce. A revolutionary paradigm shift in how commerce is transacted, allowing for realizable quality, conformity and control goals to be achieved; resulting in long term, sustainable inflows of money. And lots of it. If you agree that the "Principles of 'BlockChain'" offer the utmost level of immutable data (knowledge) veracity, validity, verifiability, transparency, proof and truth; then you will understand the non-trivial implications of this history of the discovery of the "Principles of 'BlockChain'". Origin of a Specie™: an authoritative encyclopedic reference that only the discoverer of the world's first globally accessible, regulatory-recognized, regulatory-integrated and regulatory-trusted, commercialized "Principles of 'BlockChain'"-based system for the trade in non-bank, non-institutional, non-syndicated, non-regulated or regulatory exempt, free trading securities and related financial instruments; also known as Peer-to-Peer (P2P)/Private/Crypto/Secret/Shadow securities and related financial instruments (Binary Digit Utility Tokens for Digital Assets), could write.

Book excerpt: In a networked and globalized world of information the form of national bibliographies may have changed, however their major function remains unchanged: to inform about a country’s publication landscape, its cultural and intellectual heritage. Subject access offers a major route into this landscape providing information about the dispersion of publications in specific fields of knowledge and topics contained in a particular national publishing output. The Guidelines for Subject Access in National Bibliographies give graded recommendations concerning subject indexing policies for national bibliographic agencies and illustrating various policies by providing best practice examples.

This book presents papers from FSDM 2021, the 7th International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and Data Mining. The conference, originally due to take place in Seoul, South Korea, was held online on 26-29 October 2021, due to ongoing restrictions connected with the COVID-19 pandemic. The annual FSDM conference provides a platform for knowledge exchange between international experts, researchers, academics and delegates from industry. This year, the committee received 266 submissions, and this book contains 52 papers, including keynotes and invited presentations, oral and poster contributions. The papers cover four main areas: 1) fuzzy theory, algorithms and systems – including topics like stability; 2) fuzzy applications – which are widely used and cover various types of processing as well as hardware and architecture for big data and time series; 3) the interdisciplinary field of fuzzy logic and data mining; and 4) data mining itself. The topic most frequently addressed this year is fuzzy systems. The book offers an overview of research and developments in fuzzy logic and data mining, and will be of interest to all those working in the field of data science.

Book excerpt: The general objective of the thesis is to provide domain independent, and resource independent methods and tools for speeding up the ontology development process and is achieved by reusing and re-engineering as much as possible available non-ontological resources (NORs). To fulfil this overall goal, we have decomposed it into the following methodological and technological objectives: - The definition of methodological aspects related to the reuse of non-ontological resources for building ontologies. - The definition of methodological aspects related to the re-engineering of non-ontological resources for building ontologies. - The creation of a library of patterns for re-engineering non-ontological resources into ontologies. - The development of a software library, NOR2O, that implements the suggestions given by the re-engineering patterns.

Information governance initiatives address corporate concerns about the quality and reliability of information in planning and decision-making processes. Metadata management refers to the tools, processes, and environment that are provided so that organizations can reliably and easily share, locate, and retrieve information from these systems. Enterprise-wide information integration projects integrate data from these systems to one location to generate required reports and analysis. During this type of implementation process, metadata management must be provided along each step to ensure that the final reports and analysis are from the right data sources, are complete, and have quality. This IBM® Redbooks® publication introduces the information governance initiative and highlights the immediate needs for metadata management. It explains how IBM InfoSphereTM Information Server provides a single unified platform and a collection of product modules and components so that organizations can understand, cleanse, transform, and deliver trustworthy and context-rich information. It describes a typical implementation process. It explains how InfoSphere Information Server provides the functions that are required to implement such a solution and, more importantly, to achieve metadata management. This book is for business leaders and IT architects with an overview of metadata management in information integration solution space. It also provides key technical details that IT professionals can use in a solution planning, design, and implementation process.

Book excerpt: A new edition of this best-selling textbook reintroduces the topic of library cataloging from a fresh, modern perspective. Not many books merit an eleventh edition, but this popular text does. Newly updated, Introduction to Cataloging and Classification provides an introduction to descriptive cataloging based on contemporary standards, explaining the basic tenets to readers without previous experience, as well as to those who merely want a better understanding of the process as it exists today. The text opens with the foundations of cataloging, then moves to specific details and subject matter such as Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR), Functional Requirements for Authority Data (FRAD), the International Cataloging Principles (ICP), and RDA. Unlike other texts, the book doesn't presume a close familiarity with the MARC bibliographic or authorities formats; ALA's Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd Edition, revised (AACR2R); or the International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD). Subject access to library materials is covered in sufficient depth to make the reader comfortable with the principles and practices of subject cataloging and classification. In addition, the book introduces MARC, BIBFRAME, and other approaches used to communicate and display bibliographic data. Discussions of formatting, presentation, and administrative issues complete the book; questions useful for review and study appear at the end of each chapter.

It takes a fair degree of information savvy to create, represent and supply information as well as to search for and retrieve relevant knowledge. How does information (documents, pieces of knowledge) have to be organized in order to be retrievable? What role does metadata play? What are search engines on the Web, or in corporate intranets, and how do they work? How must one deal with natural language processing and tools of knowledge organization, such as thesauri, classification systems, and ontologies? How useful is social tagging? How valuable are intellectually created abstracts and automatically prepared extracts? Which empirical methods allow for user research and which for the evaluation of information systems? This Handbook is a basic work of information science, providing a comprehensive overview of the current state of information retrieval and knowledge representation. It addresses readers from all professions and scientific disciplines, but particularly scholars, practitioners and students of Information Science, Library Science, Computer Science, Information Management, and Knowledge Management. This Handbook is a suitable reference work for Public and Academic Libraries.

Book excerpt: This book outlines the basic principles of creation and maintenance of taxonomies and thesauri. It also provides step by step instructions for building a taxonomy or thesaurus and discusses the various ways to get started on a taxonomy construction project. Often, the first step is to get management and budgetary approval, so I start this book with a discussion of reasons to embark on the taxonomy journey. From there I move on to a discussion of metadata and how taxonomies and metadata are related, and then consider how, where, and why taxonomies are used. Information architecture has its cornerstone in taxonomies and metadata. While a good discussion of information architecture is beyond the scope of this work, I do provide a brief discussion of the interrelationships among taxonomies, metadata, and information architecture. Moving on to the central focus of this book, I introduce the basics of taxonomies, including a definition of vocabulary control and why it is so important, how indexing and tagging relate to taxonomies, a few of the types of tagging, and a definition and discussion of post- and pre-coordinate indexing. After that I present the concept of a hierarchical structure for vocabularies and discuss the differences among various kinds of controlled vocabularies, such as taxonomies, thesauri, authority files, and ontologies. Once you have a green light for your project, what is the next step? Here I present a few options for the first phase of taxonomy construction and then a more detailed discussion of metadata and markup languages. I believe that it is important to understand the markup languages (SGML and XML specifically, and HTML to a lesser extent) in relation to information structure, and how taxonomies and metadata feed into that structure. After that, I present the steps required to build a taxonomy, from defining the focus, collecting and organizing terms, analyzing your vocabulary for even coverage over subject areas, filling in gaps, creating relationships between terms, and applying those terms to your content. Here I offer a cautionary note: don’t believe that your taxonomy is “done!” Regular, scheduled maintenance is an important—critical, really—component of taxonomy construction projects. After you’ve worked through the steps in this book, you will be ready to move on to integrating your taxonomy into the workflow of your organization. This is covered in Book 3 of this series. Book excerpt: These Transactions publish research in computer-based methods of computational collective intelligence (CCI) and their applications in a wide range of fields such as the Semantic Web, social networks and multi-agent systems. TCCI strives to cover new methodological, theoretical and practical aspects of CCI understood as the form of intelligence that emerges from the collaboration and competition of many individuals (artificial and/or natural). The application of multiple computational intelligence technologies such as fuzzy systems, evolutionary computation, neural systems, consensus theory, etc., aims to support human and other collective intelligence and to create new forms of CCI in natural and/or artificial systems. This third issue contains a collection of 10 articles selected from high-quality submissions addressing advances in the foundations and applications of computational collective intelligence.
