This book was released on 2010 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication reports the results of an evaluation of nuclear energy systems based on a closed nuclear fuel cycle with fast reactors (CNFC-FR). The study was carried out by an international group of experts from Canada, China, France, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation and Ukraine, using an assessment methodology developed by International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles (INPRO). The INPRO methodology takes a holistic approach to assess innovative nuclear energy systems in seven areas: economics, infrastructure, safety, waste management, environment, proliferation resistance and physical protection. The study concluded that all INPRO requirements for a sustainable nuclear energy system are fulfilled by the assessed CNFC-FR except in the area of economics, where ongoing R&D programs will provide further insights to bridge knowledge gaps. The full report is available on the accompanying CD

Book Synopsis Quality and Reliability Aspects in Nuclear Power Reactor Fuel Engineering by : IAEA
Download or read book Quality and Reliability Aspects in Nuclear Power Reactor Fuel Engineering written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2024-02-20 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improved fuel reliability means reduced fuel failures in reactor operation. Fuel failures, with their consequent adverse impact on the environment and requirements for additional waste management, result in costs for remediation, 'failed core' operation and maintenance. Therefore, poor performance of fuel can lead to uncompetitive operational conditions for a nuclear power plant. A revision of the earlier edition, this publication has been significantly extended to support nuclear fuel designers, manufacturers, reactor operators, and fuel engineers and managers on fuel design and design changes, fuel manufacturing, qualification, in-reactor operation, and on-site services to achieve excellence in fuel reliability and performance and safe operation of nuclear fuel under all applicable plant states.

Experience shows that careful planning of the objectives, roles, responsibilities, interfaces and tasks to be carried out in different phases of a nuclear project is important for success. This publication presents a harmonized approach that may be used to structure the owner/operator management system and establish and manage nuclear projects and their development activities irrespective of the adopted approach. It has been developed from shared management practices and consolidated experiences provided by nuclear project management specialists through a series of workshops and working groups organized by the IAEA. The resultant publication presents a useful framework for the management of nuclear projects from initiation to closeout and captures international best practices.
