Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides skills for therapists and families to help improve interpersonal communication, promoting a new system of family coexistence and a refreshed concept of the modern marriage in society. Written from a constructivist peace perspective, the book’s aim is to reduce the high statistics of intimate partner violence that occurs in Mexico, arguing that the culture of peace and how it is born in the family in turn affects society for better or for worse. Based upon interviews from 150 long-term married couples, the chapters address the components that promote peaceful dialogue in marriages, such as assertive language, active listening, tolerance to frustration, and gender perspectives. Including accessible language and several models of peace, the book uniquely examines same-sex marriages, the role of children in marriage conflicts, and prescribed gender assumptions and roles in relationships. It aims to empower family members to move away from old habits and seek a more equitable existence in marriages and society at large. This interdisciplinary text will be of great interest to family therapists and clinical social workers, as well as to students and researchers in communication and peace studies.

Book excerpt: This handbook provides a review of relevant topics concerning the interface between culture and mental health, with a particular focus on child-rearing practices and transcultural issues in the perinatal period, infancy, and early childhood. It discusses how to work with infants and families from diverse backgrounds and addresses the most common issues that medical and mental health experts may encounter when working with individuals from other cultures. Chapters examine the considerable range of child-rearing strategies and how families from various cultural groups approach issues such as infant sleep, feeding practices, and care during pregnancy. In addition, chapters address conditions that are seen mostly within a particular sociocultural context and are “culture bound” syndromes or states. The handbook concludes with the editors’ recommendations for future research directions. Topics featured in this handbook include: Prejudice, discrimination, and stereotyping within the clinical field. Cultural responses to infant crying and irritability. Cultural issues in response to chronic conditions and malformations in infancy. The healthy immigrant effect. The use of folk and traditionally therapeutic remedies. The Clinical Handbook of Transcultural Infant Mental Health is an essential resource for researchers, clinicians and related professionals, and graduate students in infancy and early child development, child and school psychology, pediatrics, social work, obstetrics, and nursing.

Book excerpt: The management of chronic diseases is one of the tasks of all members of the health team, and different models need to be applied in the practice of chronic care management. One of these models is home care services. There are two main sections in this book. In the first part of the section, the concept of caregiving and care at home is explained. In the second part, the responsibilities of caregivers at home and the responsibilities of caregivers of people who have health problems that occur during different periods of life are discussed. In the second section, the problems of caregivers are also included. I would like to think that what is quoted in this book, which contains examples from different cultures of the world for home care approaches, will contribute to the development of home care services. This book is presented to all health professionals working in the field of health services as well as health politics professionals and students trained in these areas.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: This festschrift in honor of the work and legacy of Dr. Marc Groenhuijsen provides an international and holistic overview of recent developments in victimology, taking a global scope but grounded in everyday experiences of victims. Its multidisciplinary perspective reflects a range of approaches and practices in victimology, including contributions from the fields of social work, criminology, sociology, psychology, and law. Firstly, the volume introduces new perspectives in victimology, and then analyzes different forms of victimization in countries worldwide. It gives special attention to victims’ rights and participation in the criminal justice system, detailing victim-centered approaches to justice through practices such as restorative justice and restitution. Highlighting the growth and development of victimology from a specialization in criminology to an academic discipline in its own right, this book reflects the range of approaches and depth of scholarship in the field. This will be an essential resource to students of victimology, researchers, policy makers, and victim’s advocates.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book, ADVANCES IN BUILDING ENGINEERING RESEARCH, has been conceived as a result of the efforts of some of the most relevant researchers in the field of building engineering at a national level. The work, well structured and composed of original research, shows through a didactic approach the current lines of work in which the construction sector in Spain is developing. Nowadays, nobody doubts that we are immersed in a process of change and technological innovation that fully affects the industry, and the construction sector is no stranger to it. Advances in technology and its application to everyday life, the excessive consumption of natural resources and the need to apply circular economy strategies, or the development of new sustainable construction materials, are some of the issues addressed in this book. Thus, in line with European guidelines and the Sustainable Development Goals set out in the 2030 Agenda, the European Union has established a roadmap that promotes responsible economic growth. It is for this reason that it is essential to address new ways of conceiving building in our country, and for this reason, it has been essential to have various collaborators from renowned Universities and Research Centres that have wanted to be part of this work. Undoubtedly, all the original research presented here deals with the process of innovation in building and is linked to the common paradigm of sustainability. However, despite the complexity of some of the topics covered in this compendium, the authors have tried to unify the criteria of academic rigour and agile and accessible presentation. For this reason, it is understood that this book is suitable both for doctoral students and researchers, as well as for people interested in popularising science with a basic training. This is perhaps the strong point of this work, which has been polished as a result of the criticisms received from all those colleagues who have been kind enough to read the final document and help to improve it. We would also like to thank all the authors who have responded to our call and have kindly contributed their excellent research to the creation of this book. The works that make up the different Chapters have been selected through a blind peer review process and are the result of the wide-ranging concerns and issues that are of concern to building professionals in the year 2024. Last but not least, we would like to thank the Department of Building Technology and especially its Director, Mr. Carlos Morón Fernández, for giving us the opportunity to carry out this initiative by providing us with the necessary means. We hope, with all our intention, to make known the research work that is being carried out in the field of building, with a firm commitment to technological innovation and sustainable development.

Book excerpt: The title of the book Educational Psychology - Between Certitudes and Uncertainties is relevant for the dynamic and low predictable research from genetics, neurosciences, technologies, etc. that produce challenges and exchanges across sciences. This new framework argues that this book is to be considered a fairly unique and realistic way to rebuild the incongruities and paradoxes in this area. Naturally, "certitudes and uncertainties" is a common denominator for the existing sophisticated academic conventions and for the immense potential of continuous professional development. The title of the book reflects the state of the art, a new trend in the conceptual fabric of educational psychology, and an attitude toward an academic market in the age of many battles in the world of science.
