Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Waters of Crystal Lake appear serene and beautiful in the fall sunshine of 1979. Yet something is silently glowing under its surface that could wreak havoc in the fictitious town of Greenwood, which depends on the lake for its water. Meanwhile, twenty-eight-year-old divorcee, Debra Chandler, is working in a Nashville research lab for the brilliant, but difficult Dr. Joseph Steiner, an authority in DNA research. Soon her quiet and boring world will be turned upside down when a new boyfriend, medical resident Dr. Jim Tarkington, asks her to accompany him to Greenwood to investigate a possible epidemic. Coincidently, this is the same town where her favorite cousin Elizabeth Chandler lives. Elizabeth works as an office nurse for a doctor in family practice. Shortly they and the rest of the medical community will be swept up in a disaster of epic proportions. Jim and Debra arrive at Greenwood Memorial planning a short visit to collect data for his research paper. There they find a chaotic scene with the hospital overflowing with deadly ill patients suffering from an unknown disease. The medical personnel have no idea what is causing the illness as they frantically attempt to treat the sick. After interviewing patients and arranging to collect samples from them, Debra and Jim, exhausted, spend the night at Elizabeth's home. The next day, acting on a hunch, they also obtain samples from the Greenwood Water Company before returning home. Back in Nashville, after careful laboratory analysis of the samples, they discover an unbelievable reason for the epidemic. This information will later force the decision-makers to admit a madman is loose in the city.

Book Synopsis Woodcraft & Camping by : George Washington Sears
Download or read book Woodcraft & Camping written by George Washington Sears and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-11-13 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is an age of hurry and worry. Fortunes are quickly made and freely spent. Nearly all busy, hard-worked Americans have an intuitive sense of the need that exists for at least one period of rest and relaxation during each year, and all—or nearly all—are willing to pay liberally, too liberally in fact, for anything that conduces to rest, recreation and sport. I am sorry to say that we mostly get swindled. To the man of millions it makes little difference. I do not write for him, and can do him little good. But there are hundreds of thousands of practical, useful men, many of them far from being rich; mechanics, artists, writers, merchants, clerks, business men—workers, so to speak—who sorely need and well deserve a season of rest and relaxation at least once a year. To these, and for these, I write. (George Washington Sears, Chapter I)

Forest Life collects George Washington Sears' timeless writing about the joys of exploring the wilderness, edited for a modern audience. In text both practical and inspirational, Sears' provides enduring wisdom about trips into the woods and lakes, including equipment, campfires, fishing, camp cooking, traveling light, and canoes. The original "forest bather," Sears wanted others to enjoy the woods as he did. He published Woodcraft in 1884 to help prepare skillful, self-reliant woodsman and to extol the restorative power of nature. In addition to Woodcraft, Forest Life contains many of his articles from Forest and Stream, as well as his nature poetry. Sears is especially eloquent about canoeing, which he helped popularize with published tales of his adventures. In 1883, when he was 61 years old and suffering from tuberculosis, he used a 9-foot, 10-1/2 pound canoe to travel 266 miles through the Adirondacks, writing, "The easy, gentle rocking of the canoe was the best incentive to drowsiness I ever found, and by night or day was nearly certain to send me into dreamland." This edition features period etchings of scenes, people, flora, and fauna of the Adirondacks, and is the ideal gift book for the outdoor enthusiast.
