This book was released on 2012-08-16 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Better designed and implemented fiscal regimes for oil, gas, and mining can make a substantial contribution to the revenue needs of many developing countries while ensuring an attractive return for investors, according to a new policy paper from the International Monetary Fund. Revenues from extractive industries (EIs) have major macroeconomic implications. The EIs account for over half of government revenues in many petroleum-rich countries, and for over 20 percent in mining countries. About one-third of IMF member countries find (or could find) resource revenues “macro-critical” – especially with large numbers of recent new discoveries and planned oil, gas, and mining developments. IMF policy advice and technical assistance in the field has massively expanded in recent years – driven by demand from member countries and supported by increased donor finance. The paper sets out the analytical framework underpinning, and key elements of, the country-specific advice given. Also available in Arabic: ????? ??????? ?????? ???????? ???????????: ??????? ???????? Book Synopsis Canada's Energy Crisis by : James Laxer
Download or read book Canada's Energy Crisis written by James Laxer and published by James Lorimer & Company. This book was released on 1975 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written at the height of the OPEC oil crisis of the 1970s, Canada's Energy Crisis brings into focus issues that remain relevant to Canada's national and international politics today. Framing the debate with a discussion of the United States' oil strategy as it relates to that country's national security, Laxer analyzes Canada's energy requirements, the state of its largely foreign-owned oil industry, the emergence of a continental energy policy and its implications for Federal-Provincial relations. Concluding with a discussion of the possibilities for development of Western oil sands projects and Northern oil pipelines, Laxer suggests an alternative energy and industrial strategy for Canada, one that counters the continentalist orthodoxy. Canada's Energy Crisis considers questions of economic development and national independence that remain relevant today.

Download or read book Developing Alberta's Oil Sands written by Paul Anthony Chastko and published by University of Calgary Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alberta's oil sands represent a vast and untapped oil reserve that could reasonably supply all of Canada's energy needs for the next 475 years. With an estimated 300 billion barrels of recoverable oil at stake, the quest to develop this natural resource has been undertaken by many powerful actors, both nationally and internationally. Using research that integrates the economic, political, scientific, and business factors that have been influential in discovering and developing the sands, this book provides a comprehensive history of the oil sands project and a window on the nature of the complex relationships between industry, government, and transnational players. This book is the first comprehensive volume that examines the origins and development of the oil sands industry over the last century.

Download or read book Offshore Oil written by Roger Voyer and published by James Lorimer & Company. This book was released on 1983-01-01 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1983, Offshore Oil is an early and prescient analysis of the prospects for oil and gas development off Canada's east coast. The book examines the potential of offshore oil to provide growth in Canadian industries. As development proceeds huge sums will be invested and oil companies' needs include platforms, drilling rigs, ships, plants and a host of smaller items such as drills, pumps, transformers and electronic equipment. This presents opportunities not only for traditional industries such as steel and shipbuilding but also for the high-technology sector. Offshore oil holds the prospect of energy self-sufficiency for Canada and of better times for the depressed Atlantic economy. But development of gas could also bring a "boom and bust" that damages the region's social and economic fabric. This book considers both possibilities.
