Book excerpt: When our Father of Faith is tempted to sacrifice his sense of humor on the Altar of God's Demands, God intervenes in a surprising way that really makes Abe laugh. This is the same God whose hungry servant, Elijah, is fed by ravens way out on the ragged edge and towards whom Moses manages a sidewise glance while on the lookout for greener pastures. Then along comes another tough act to follow--the Wild Man of Judea appearing in the Galilee Theater and baptizing Jesus of Nazareth in the Jordan River of God's Transforming Power and Hope. Then, in the very next scene, JŽsus ben Dios, the Number One Draft Choice in all of Baseball, hops a trial-ways bus to intensive-training camp where he comes face to face with the temptations and adversities of the real world. Fortunately, JŽsus has his Spring Training Manual handy for quick reference. Jesus then launches his teaching and healing career in many forms: as a dance instructor, farmer, chef--and even as a flamboyant pyromaniac-arsonist who comes not to bring peace to the world but to set it on fire. For who can forget Marshal Jesus out along the Border of Sin and Forgiveness encountering the Ten Men-yon? Or the homefolks' chant, Dr. Jesus, he's our man! If we can't use him, nobody can!? Because when Anglo-Catholic Father Jesus meets an average parishioner at the Holy Water Basin and asks her to bless him with it, their engaging conversation prompts students of the bible and pillars of the church to take a second look in order to watch ordinary altar candles suddenly take on more beauty and meaning than they have ever imagined before. So, for those who have eyes to see: Look!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever thought about God's Benefit Plan? When we seek a new job in our worldly environment, we always ask our prospective employer about the company's Benefit Plan. "Does your company offer medical insurance, dental insurance, holiday pay, over-time, vacation time, sick time, retirement benefits, stock options, savings plans," we ask. Psalm 103 gives us the "Benefit Package" of being one of God's children. These benefits include: God forgives all our sin, God heals all our diseases, God redeems us from destruction, God crowns us with lovingkindness and tender mercy, God satisfies our mouth with good things. Now, that's what I call a great benefit package. All you need to do is being willing to receive these benefits by faith. This book is based on Psalm 103 which is 22 verses of pure gold. It is one of the most powerful chapters in the Bible. It addresses not only God's benefits for His children, but Psalm 103 includes a thorough description of God's mercy. And, the purpose of God's angels.

After many years of falling from bad choices I started seeking God when I was invited to church through a few acquaintances. Through the seeking process things started to improve. Then through hard times I drew closer to God and God gave me dreams and talked to me in different ways, one time being audible. I felt led to share these awesome blessings with others because people do not realize that God does have time for them. He actually wants to spend time with them and help them.

However, the readers will soon discover that the book is rich in its content far beyond the editors' original plan. It serves as a reader for people with various levels of missiological interest and competence and deals with cutting-edge issues in missions. This book introduces a new paradigm, Kingdom Missiology, which builds on shalom in the Old Testament and as Jesus applied to the Kingdom of God in the New Testament. The first half of the book looks at Kingdom Missiology from the biblical, historical, and cultural dimensions. The second half of the book describes helpful strategies in the implementation of this paradigm. The importance of urban ministry is woven throughout the book. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What marks, principles, and values from our study of Jesus can guide our reflections about the church and its witness in a world of economic injustice? What kinds of principles ought to be part of an ecclesiology in a world where family violence is epidemic? So asks author James Poling in his exploration of the role of faith and religious practice as a resource for those who are economically vulnerable to domestic violence. In this groundbreaking work, Poling focuses his research on women and children in working-class and poor communities of three cultures, analyzing the forces that define and sustain economic vulnerability and detailing how such vulnerability affects the daily lives of people within these communities. He looks at how the church can function as a source of healing and empowerment for persons who are trapped by domestic violence and economic vulnerability and develops models for prevention of violence and of practical ministry for pastoral care of the victims and perpetrators.

Book excerpt: In my study of the benefits of living in God's economy. It was revealed, that Jesus was and is and is to come the very embodiment of the benefit of living in God's economy. He came to show us the way to receive and live in a way that would bring glory and honor to God the Father. Jesus is the representation of heavens benefits! When we accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Savior, we enter into God's economy; where He becomes responsible to care for us. But if you choose to live outside of the economy of God's kingdom; He has no obligation to give you what Jesus calls, "the children's bread." But because of God's love for humanity, He extends His mercy to all mankind. He rains on the just and unjust alike. For those who make a decision to answer God's call; we are then set apart to enjoy the full benefits of living in God's economy! It's like when you get a job, you have a job description explaining to you how the company expects you to perform your duties. You are given an employee handbook that outlines specific fringe benefits that you are entitled to. Now, an outsider cannot expect to receive any benefits from that company because they are not an employee. But, now that you have been hired to represent the company, they are responsible to pay you for your services as long as you are employed by them. Some of those benefits may include: health benefits, 401K, stock options, paid vacation and so forth. However, in order to receive these benefits, you are responsible to follow all of the guidelines set forth in the employee handbook. Some companies host an annual benefit gala for under privileged students who excel in their school academics. The company provides scholarships to assist them in higher education. You see, the students do not work for the company, but because the CEO of that company decided to share a portion of the company's profits with these students, they have been extended grace and mercy. When man who does not accept the economy of God {Jesus) they think and believe with all of their heart that they are self-made, that everything they have accomplished is through some power of their own and that God had absolutely nothing to do with it. They fail to realize that it is God who gives man the power to get wealth and not we ourselves.God's economy establishes what He wants done on the earth. When we come into agreement with God's plan for our lives, then we become benefactors of His wealth, resources, and provisions! On the other hand, when man tries to live without God, they take the credit for the wisdom, gifts, and talents that He gave them. God's plan is for man to duplicate His purposes on earth. In man's economy, he strives to become wealthy by spending all of his energy in the pursuit of what we would consider wealth to be. Very often, while man is in pursuit of becoming financially successful, he has become bankrupt in his relationship with God, his family, his friends, his mind, and his emotions. In other words, man becomes unstable in every area of his life. He may have all the appearances of wealth, success, and happiness but he has become bankrupt . Revelations 3:17 reads "You said I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing. But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked." When we are outside of the ark of God's safety we are left to the enemy devices; who has come to kill your dreams, steal your joy and peace, causing you to strive in your own strength trying to obtain the American dream. But at the end of the day, you will discover that it is really a nightmare! All because we thought that we knew better than the God who created us! Satan, our enemy has come to destroy us through an illusion, a false perception. He wants us to believe that we are our own creator without any divine intervention!

Book excerpt: Drawing on a wealth of new evidence, pioneering research psychologist David DeSteno shows why religious practices and rituals are so beneficial to those who follow them—and to anyone, regardless of their faith (or lack thereof). Scientists are beginning to discover what believers have known for a long time: the rewards that a religious life can provide. For millennia, people have turned to priests, rabbis, imams, shamans, and others to help them deal with issues of grief and loss, birth and death, morality and meaning. In this absorbing work, DeSteno reveals how numerous religious practices from around the world improve emotional and physical well-being. With empathy and rigor, DeSteno chronicles religious rites and traditions from cradle to grave. He explains how the Japanese rituals surrounding childbirth help strengthen parental bonds with children. He describes how the Apache Sunrise Ceremony makes teenage girls better able to face the rigors of womanhood. He shows how Buddhist meditation reduces hostility and increases compassion. He demonstrates how the Jewish practice of sitting shiva comforts the bereaved. And much more. DeSteno details how belief itself enhances physical and mental health. But you don’t need to be religious to benefit from the trove of wisdom that religion has to offer. Many items in religion’s “toolbox” can help the body and mind whether or not one believes. How God Works offers advice on how to incorporate many of these practices to help all of us live more meaningful, successful, and satisfying lives.
