Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bates explores how early Christians read the Old Testament in order to differentiate the one God as multiple persons. The earliest Christians felt they could metaphorically 'overhear' divine conversations between the Father, Son, and Spirit when reading the Old Testament. The connection of these snatches of dialogue forms a narrative about the unfolding interior divine life as understood by the nascent church. What emerges is not a static portrait of the triune God, but a developing story of divine persons enacting mutual esteem, voiced praise, collaborative strategy, and self-sacrificial love.

Book excerpt: The following dissertation concerning the Trinity, as the reader ought to be informed, has been written in order to guard against the sophistries of those who disdain to begin with faith, and are deceived by a crude and perverse love of reason. Now one class of such men endeavor to transfer to things incorporeal and spiritual the ideas they have formed, whether through experience of the bodily senses, or by natural human wit and diligent quickness, or by the aid of art, from things corporeal; so as to seek to measure and conceive of the former by the latter. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You might be surprised to find that God is not a trinity. The Trinity is one of mainstream Christianity’s most widely accepted and revered doctrines held by millions of Catholics, Protestants and Orthodox believers. The belief that God is three persons—the Father, Son and Holy Spirit—coexisting in one being is how the trinity doctrine is often defined. But the word trinity appears nowhere within the pages of the Bible. You can not cling to long-held religious traditions if they contradict the Scriptures. Your beliefs must rest solidly on the teachings of the Holy Bible. This Bible Study aid, "Is God a Trinity?", goes into great detail explaning the non-biblical origins of the trinity and how this false gospel replaced the true teachings of Jesus Christ. Discover how the Bible communicates a true picture of God and learn about the awesome plan He has promised for you and all mankind. Chapters in this ebook: -- Is the Trinity Biblical? -- The Surprising Origins of the Trinity Doctrine -- Greek Philosophy's Influence on the Trinity Doctrine -- How Ancient Trinitarian Gods Influenced Adoption of the Trinity -- A Spurious Reference to the Trinity Added in 1 John 5:7-8 -- How Is God Revealed in the Bible? -- Jesus Was Sent by the Father -- Jesus Christ: "The Rock" of the Old Testament -- The Apostles Understood Jesus to Be the Creator -- Did Jesus Christ Claim to Be God? -- "In the Beginning Was the Word" -- The Claim of Jesus' Disciples -- "There Is One God, the Father...and One Lord, Jesus Christ" -- God's Plan to "Bring Many Sons to Glory" -- Jesus Christ's Submission to the Father -- How Is God One? -- "The Lord Our God, the Lord Is One" -- Seven Scriptures That Debunk the Trinity as a Single Being -- Elohim: The Plurality of God -- Is the Holy Spirit a Person? -- Does Matthew 28:19 Prove the Trinity? -- Why the Holy Spirit Is Sometimes Incorrectly Referred to as "He" and "Him" -- What About Passages That "Prove" the Trinity? -- The Holy Spirit: God's Transforming Power -- How to Stir Up God's Spirit -- God's Nature and Character -- God's Purpose for You -- The Likeness of God -- Do Some Verses Deny a Divine Family? -- The God Family Inside this Bible Study Aid ebook: "Most people assume that everything that bears the label “Christian” must have originated with Jesus Christ and His early followers. But this is definitely not the case." "Many historians and religious scholars, some quoted in this publication, attest to the influence of Greek or Platonic philosophy in the development and acceptance of the Trinity doctrine in the fourth century." God the Father is the One who calls us to baptism and a new way of life (John 6:44, 65), and it is His goodness that leads us to repentance and baptism (Romans 2:4). "As even the New Catholic Encyclopedia, quoted from earlier, acknowledges: “The majority of New Testament texts reveal God’s spirit as something, not someone; this is especially seen in the parallelism between the spirit and the power of God..."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the Trinity is a revolution in Christian thought and philosophy. True Christianity is a Jewish religion established and organized by Jews. Gentiles were invited by Jews, with God's approval, to participate in the Christian movement. However, Gentile Leaders in most Christian Churches of the world today do not preach the original Christian gospel message of salvation that was first delivered to the saints by the apostle Paul (Galatians 1:8-9). "Understanding the Trinity, Three Persons vs Three Manifestations," will bring us back to the original gospel message, the oneness of God, and the power of God's name in the face of Jesus Christ. (Deuteronomy 6:4, Luke 2:11). When Billy G. Newton, Bishop, Diocesan of the 29th Episcopal District, Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc., Pastor of the Word of Church read this book, he said, "This book was so fascinating I couldn't put it down." When Kevin Seraaj, M.Div., J.D. Senior Pastor, Cornerstone Baptist Church, Publisher, Central Florida Advocate News read this book, he said, "Understanding the Trinity" is a timely, relevant and extremely provocative piece of work. In a time when the church must be challenged to move out of old ways, notions, thoughts and traditions, this book will without question provide a forum for much-needed theological discussion. For students of the Bible, this book is a must read, for it is always that process of reading, analyzing and debating that enables us to move forward in both our personal and spiritual journeys." Great job!! When Frank E. Thompson, Pastor of the Worship Center Church read the book, he said, "This book should be taught in colleges and universities." Author's Note: You have in your possession the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Don't let the birds steal your seeds (Matthew 13:3-13) (KJV).

Book excerpt: When world-class biblical scholar Bart Ehrman first began to study the texts of the Bible in their original languages he was startled to discover the multitude of mistakes and intentional alterations that had been made by earlier translators. In Misquoting Jesus, Ehrman tells the story behind the mistakes and changes that ancient scribes made to the New Testament and shows the great impact they had upon the Bible we use today. He frames his account with personal reflections on how his study of the Greek manuscripts made him abandon his once ultraconservative views of the Bible. Since the advent of the printing press and the accurate reproduction of texts, most people have assumed that when they read the New Testament they are reading an exact copy of Jesus's words or Saint Paul's writings. And yet, for almost fifteen hundred years these manuscripts were hand copied by scribes who were deeply influenced by the cultural, theological, and political disputes of their day. Both mistakes and intentional changes abound in the surviving manuscripts, making the original words difficult to reconstruct. For the first time, Ehrman reveals where and why these changes were made and how scholars go about reconstructing the original words of the New Testament as closely as possible. Ehrman makes the provocative case that many of our cherished biblical stories and widely held beliefs concerning the divinity of Jesus, the Trinity, and the divine origins of the Bible itself stem from both intentional and accidental alterations by scribes -- alterations that dramatically affected all subsequent versions of the Bible.

Book excerpt: Lack of understanding of the concept of the Holy Trinity has plagued the church of Jesus Christ for more than two thousand years. But this doctrine is not difficult to understand when we restrict ourselves solely to the sayings of our Lord Jesus Christ -the author and finisher of our faith. Although the bible does not mention the word "Trinity" in all the books, however, there is a word mentioned in the bible that confirms the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. This word reveals the plurality-in-unity of the divine nature of God. The word "Godhead" appeared 3 times in the New Testament and an in-depth study of this word, unveils the concept of the Holy Trinity. It was translated from the Greek word "THEIOS" which is translated in Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament as the Holy Trinity comprising the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. So the bible do, indeed, mention the Holy Trinity but by a different name. As a former Muslim, the subject of the Holy Trinity became a major stumbling block in my early Christian walk and therefore I devoted almost two decades of my life seeking for answers to this elusive Christian doctrine. Progressively, the Lord gradually revealed this concept to me in a very easy to understand manner. So, in this book, you will find answers to some of the questions that most of us ask in our quest to understand the Holy Trinity. For example, is Jesus Christ the same as God? Or is Jesus Christ the only Begotten Son of God? What did Jesus imply when He said "I and the Father are one". Was He denying the Holy Spirit as part of the trinity since He didn't say, "I, the Father and the Holy Spirit are one" but instead He left out the Holy Spirit and said, "I and the Father are one". These and many other probing questions would be answered based on the sayings of our Lord Jesus Christ. Moreover, did Christendom borrow the doctrine of the trinity from pagan religions in antiquity at the Council of Catholic Bishops at Nicaea in the fourth century AD? Or did the council of Nicaea echo a truth recorded in the bible from the beginning of time? The Holy Scriptures clearly unveils God to the reader without any ambiguity but human interpretations had confused this doctrine thus making it difficult to understand. The bible does not address the Holy Trinity as God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Instead, the bible addresses the Holy Trinity as God the Father, the Son of God and the Holy Spirit of God. So, what is the difference between these two descriptions? Through the pages of this book, you will find answers to these and many other probing questions. Jesus Christ, in the Gospels, answered all these questions.

Book excerpt: God is one, not three. Deut. 6:4, Hear O Israel, the Lord our GOD IS ONE LORD. 1 Cor. 8:6, There is but ONE GOD: THE FATHER, of whom all things, and we in him. James 2:19, 1 Tim. 2:5, There is ONE GOD. And one MEDIATOR between God and man, the MAN JESUS CHRIST. Even the devils believe (and tremble) that there is only one God. John 17:3 says, And this is life eternal, that they might know thee THE ONLY TRUE GOD, and Jesus Christ, whom THOU HAST SENT. Eph.4:6, ONE GOD and father of all. Isaiah 43:10, Before me there was NO GOD formed, neither shall there be after me. This Trinity is an established matter by Roman Emperor Constantine with the meeting, known as Council of Nicaea, with all bishops in 325 AD. We cannot open it again. This is the opinion of many. After all, we are not under the kings and emperors now. We are in democracy. Nobody can dictate us. Constantine was not a Christian at the time of taking that decision, and it was only later he became a Christian. He was afraid that his Roman kingdom will break down into two with the fight among bishops about this Trinity, and so he held the Nicene Council with all the Bishops simply took the majority and then declared Trinity. We need biblical support for anything, not the human dictation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dogma of the Holy Trinity is the fundamental and primary Christian doctrine. It has been held by orthodox Christians that to loose or diminish this doctrine is to begin to descend a slippery slope, leading to the loss of Christianity itself. Yet at the level of the local church, there may be discerned a general feeling that the Trinity is both difficult to understand and unimportant; that to have faith in Jesus and to love one's neighbor is what Christianity is all about. Despite the recital of creeds, or the use of the trinitarian formula in 'The Grace’, most Christians appear in practice not to integrate their experience and knowledge of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Here eleven men from five countries combine to present a report and analysis of the way in which the doctrine of the Trinity has been, and is being, discussed in recent theology and by distinguished theologians. They all write from within a commitment to orthodoxy but they recognize that in our modern day we need to find new and attractive ways of presenting and expounding this ancient truth.

Book excerpt: Tanner offers not a repetition of doctrines but a creative synthesis of key Christian principles - especially the transcendence and gift-giving of God - and contemporary experience. What emerges is a profound yet precise vision of creation, God's life, and our participation in it. While consonant with traditional teachings, Tanner's dynamic speculative theology is universal in its range, mystical in its outlines, and deeply ethical in its relations with all God's gifted creatures. Jesus, Humanity, and the Trinity not only takes stock of Christian belief in a time of tumultuous intellectual and cultural change. It also finds in that ferment a life-giving meaning and mission for Christian life.

This Trinity pamphlet gives a basic explanation and definition of this important Christian belief. This Trinity booklet includes— A clear easy-to-understand definition of the Trinity doctrine The 60 Scriptures used to support the belief that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all God, not three names for the same Person. Chart comparing the power and attributes of the 3 Persons of the Trinity Chart Comparing the "Unique" Traits of God and Jesus This Trinity explanation also answers 6 key misunderstandings about God. For example, Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe in the Trinity. They point out Bible verses that appear to contradict the Christian belief in the Trinity. But their interpretation is incorrect. This booklet is useful for a Trinity Bible Study, Sunday school lesson, homeschool curriculum, or evangelism. Size: 8.5"x 5.5" unfolds to 33" long. Fits inside most Bible covers. Christian Beliefs and Church History Explained in the Trinity Pamphlet The Trinity pamphlet helps believers know what they believe and why they believe this critical Christian doctrine. In 12-panels of rich, well-research information, the pamphlet addresses topics such as– What Christians believe about the Trinity: The Father is God, Jesus Is God, The Holy Spirit is God The Trinity and the Bible Misunderstandings about the Trinity How early Christians dealt with misunderstandings about the Trinity The Trinity in the early Church and the Creeds Important Trinitarian Bible verses and references Church History and the Doctrine of the Trinity More than 60 New Testament Bible passages mention the three Persons of the Trinity together. Theophilus, sixth bishop of Antioch, Syria, is the first person known to have used the word "Trinity" in his work, Refutation of Autolycus (AD 168). More than a half-dozen writers prior to the 4th Century defended the doctrine of the Trinity. (The Trinity Pamphlet gives a list of names and dates.) 6 Misunderstandings and Misinterpretations about the Trinity It's probably not surprising that a doctrine that's as critical as the Trinity is at the center of numerous misunderstandings. The Trinity pamphlet addresses six of the most common Trinity misunderstandings: Misunderstanding 1: "The word Trinity does not appear in the Bible; it is a belief made up by 4th century Christians." Misunderstanding 2: "Christians believe there are three Gods." Misunderstanding 3: "Jesus is not God." Misunderstanding 4: "Jesus is a lesser God than the Father." Misunderstanding 5: "The Father, the Son, and the Spirit are just different titles for Jesus, or three different ways that God has revealed himself." Misunderstanding 6: "Jesus wasn’t really fully God and fully man." The Christian Creeds and the Trinity The Trinity pamphlet reveals how early Christians addressed these misunderstandings through some of the earliest statements of faith The Apostles' Creed written in the second century, and the Trinity The Nicene Creed AD 325, and the Trinity Athanasian Creed written c. AD 400, and the Trinity Chalcedoian Creed written in AD 451, and the Trinity One of the most powerful charts on the Trinity Pamphlet shows that God and Jesus Christ share 10 key traits that are mentioned in the Old Testament as applying to no-one but God. Another Trinity chart shows seven Divine attributes shared by Father, Son and Holy Spirit with Scripture references for each. Reviews for The Trinity Pamphlet "Rose Publishing has a an excellent fold–out pamphlet on the Trinity that is lay–friendly and deals with cultic objections to the doctrine. HIGHLY recommended." Book excerpt: How are we to relate to a three-personed God? The idea of the Trinity may initially seem too abstract to understand, but the truth is that a deeper knowledge of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit has daily importance. Convinced that many Christians "have some level of awareness that God is triune...[but] are virtually Unitarian," the authors have written a practical and theologically robust resource to help readers grow closer to the Triune God. Philip Ryken and Michael LeFebvre examine the doctrine of the Trinity in four parts. They explain the roles of the Father, Son, and Spirit in salvation; answer difficult questions about the Trinity; explore the believer's relationship to each person of the Trinity; and provide an exposition of the various Gospel narratives depicting how the three persons of the Trinity work together to accomplish the redemptive purposes of God. Their careful treatment of these central truths captures important implications for the Christian life. Our Triune God is a helpful guide for Christians wanting to deepen their faith and for pastors as they shepherd their congregations toward a richer love of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, the first serious analysis of the doctrine of the Trinity for many years, presents a defense against the conservative treatment of the Trinity as an impenetrable "mystery," and against the radical position that the doctrine is incoherent and therefore unacceptable. Brown favors "the founding of a new discipline of philosophical theology (or the widening of the horizons of the philosophy of religion) to apply more widely the type of penetration of theology by philosophy" that he exemplifies in his treatment of the Trinity. He argues for belief in an interventionist God (theism rather than deism), and contends that biblical criticism and historical research do not imply the abandonment of Christian belief, since "the historical original" should not be equated with "theological truth." Although historical difficulties must prevent any literal acceptance of the Gospel accounts in toto, "the true Christ" can be disentangled from "the historical Jesus" by philosophical method. Wide-ranging in scope, rigorous and candid in argument, Brown's work will prove of interest to educated Christian laypersons and others beyond the boundaries of professional theology and philosophy of religion. Perhaps most provocative is Brown's assertion that the Resurrection must be accepted as a literally true visionary experience, and that anyone who accepts it must be prepared to take seriously other visionary experiences, for example, visions of the Virgin Mary, even if he rejects them in the end. "It is certainly an astonishing truth that God should be so interested in a being of such vastly inferior powers as man," says the author. "But that clearly must be the implication of the doctrine of the Trinity . . ." To have reached this conclusion by means of philosophical argument is to have taken a major step toward the "complete penetration of theology by philosophy" that Brown calls for.
