Book Synopsis Human Resources for Health by : Joint Learning Initiative
Download or read book Human Resources for Health written by Joint Learning Initiative and published by Global Equity Initiative, Harvard University. This book was released on 2004 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this analysis of the global workforce, the Joint Learning Initiative, a consortium of more than 100 health leaders, proposes that mobilization and strengthening of human resources for health, neglected yet critical, is central to combating health crises in some of the world's poorest countries and for building sustainable health systems everywhere. Worker shortage, skill mix imbalance, maldistribution, negative work environments, and weak knowledge bases challenge nearly all countries. Especially in the poorest countries, the workforce is under assault by a triple threat of HIV/AIDS, out-migration, and inadequate investment. Effective country strategies should be launched and backed by international reinforcement. These include urgently mobilizing one million more health workers for Africa, and focusing efforts on the unremunerated community-level health workers, the majority of whom are women. Ultimately, the crisis in human resources is a shared problem requiring shared responsibility for cooperative action. Alliances for action are recommended to strengthen the performance of all actors while expanding space and energy for new ones.

Book Synopsis Poverty, Money, and Ecology as Pillars of Pope Francis' Pontificate (2013–2019) by : Pablo Alberto Baisotti
Download or read book Poverty, Money, and Ecology as Pillars of Pope Francis' Pontificate (2013–2019) written by Pablo Alberto Baisotti and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-11-01 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will deal with arguments that analyze the Vatican policies of Francis, during the first seven years of his pontificate, in relation to some of the most urgent questions concerning humanity: migrants and refugees, the economy, and ecology. The logical choice of the time period for this work is given by Jorge Bergoglio's ascent to the "chair of St. Peter" until the end of 2019. That is why there is an interrelationship between history and the present, since it is written—in part—as his apostolic journeys, interventions, diplomatic actions, and discourses are carried out. To this is added an important quantity of writings of his authorship, as well as of some of his predecessors, in order to frame the question in a historically correct way and to understand his approach to issues of politics and international diplomacy, given his investiture as a religious and—at the same time—political leader
Book Synopsis World Literature, Cosmopolitanism, Globality by : Gesine Müller

This book was released on 2019-10-21 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From today’s vantage point it can be denied that the confidence in the abilities of globalism, mobility, and cosmopolitanism to illuminate cultural signification processes of our time has been severely shaken. In the face of this crisis, a key concept of this globalizing optimism as World Literature has been for the past twenty years necessarily is in the need of a comprehensive revision. World Literature, Cosmopolitanism, Globality: Beyond, Against, Post, Otherwise offers a wide range of contributions approaching the blind spots of the globally oriented Humanities for phenomena that in one way or another have gone beyond the discourses, aesthetics, and political positions of liberal cosmopolitanism and neoliberal globalization. Departing basically (but not exclusively) from different examples of Latin American literatures and cultures in globalized contexts, this volume provides innovative insights into critical readings of World Literature and its related conceptualizations. A timely book that embraces highly innovative perspectives, it will be a mustread for all scholars involved in the field of the global dimensions of literature.

Download or read book Liquid Borders written by Mabel Moraña and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-14 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquid Borders provides a timely and critical analysis of the large-scale migration of people across borders, which has sent shockwaves through the global world order in recent years. In this book, internationally recognized scholars and activists from a variety of fields analyze key issues related to diasporic movements, displacements, exiles, "illegal" migrants, border crossings, deportations, maritime ventures, and the militarization of borders from political, economic, and cultural perspectives. Ambitious in scope, with cases stretching from the Mediterranean to Australia, the US/Mexico border, Venezuela, and deterritorialized sectors in Colombia and Central America, the various contributions are unified around the notion of freedom of movement, and the recognition of the need to think differently about ideas of citizenship and sovereignty around the world. Liquid Borders will be of interest to policy makers, and to researchers across the humanities, sociology, area studies, politics, international relations, geography, and of course migration and border studies.
