Download or read book Truth Revealed written by Robert P. Vande Kappelle and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-11-10 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the New Testament represents the crown jewels of Christianity, the Gospel of John is its "pearl of great price," the most beloved, most read, most quoted, most distinctive, most memorable, most debated book in its canon. Truth Revealed is ideal for individual and group study. It divides the Gospel of John into twelve units, providing helpful introductory features, summaries, learning objectives, and questions for each unit, and concludes by offering perspective on a specific topic that arises as one follows the narrative, always with an eye on the big picture, namely, guidance for daily living. Few sayings attributed to Jesus are better known or more widely quoted than the words "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). At his trial before Pilate, Jesus declared that his purpose in life was to witness to the truth. Pilate responds with the Gospel's most memorable question: "What is truth?" The answer is explored in Truth Revealed, a commentary that provides literary, theological, historical, and textual guidelines for understanding the message of this ancient work in a way that is accessible and applicable to twenty-first century readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2022 Catholic Media Association first place award in backlist beauty The Vita Christi of Ludolph of Saxony, fourteenth-century Carthusian, is the most comprehensive series of meditations on the life of Christ from the late Middle Ages. Ludolph assembles a wealth of commentary from the fathers of the church and the great medieval spiritual writers and weaves them into a seamless exposition of the Gospel. This is the full English translation of this classic work, and, while it will be of great interest to students of Christian spirituality, it is intended for ordinary believers seeking to enter more deeply into the meaning of the life of Christ. Ludolph divided his work into two parts; the present volume contains the first half of Part Two.
Book Synopsis Building Blocks of Wisdom by : William J. Wright
Download or read book Building Blocks of Wisdom written by William J. Wright and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-06-13 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matthew chose not to write his Gospel in chronological order. Why? How does his presentation of the Gospel differ from the other three? I show that Matthew organized his book into fourteen chiasms, explain how chiasms work, and describe the advantages that Matthew afforded the careful reader. The contrasts and comparisons of the vertical and horizontal aspects of the chiasms provide the reader with new insights into the events of Jesus' earthly ministry, and examining the peaks of the chiasms provides a ready summary of the author's key events--some of which are surprising and take careful thought to see why he stresses them over more familiar events. The chiastic structure aides in memorization due to its ordered pairs and, because they can span multiple chapters in one unit, allow for a view of the whole story at once. The result is a better understanding of the emotions of the disciples and the man on the street at a time when everything they had known was changing daily. Reading Matthew's Gospel the way it was written allows the reader a more complete understanding of its message.
