Perhaps to make children behave or adults change their way of living and have become interwoven with the real-life historical happenings and characters of Texas to the point of doubt in some instances as to what is real and what is the child of overactive imaginations. As is the case with all folklore, they are told in many different versions. These have be-come a part of the heritage of Texas folklore. The author, who insists that her stories be free of anything satanic or destructive to the minds of children, weaves a good yarn that a storyteller - such as herself - could spin before an audience. In the third volume of this popular series, the author tells tales about iconic Texas locations, including Enchanted Rock, Palo Duro Canyon, the Governor's Mansion, and many more. Twenty-six tales in all that are sure to chill and thrill.

Once again Mrs. Williams brings to light tangible evidence and eyewitness testimony in Best Tales of Texas Ghosts to validate an illusive world without dimension, one filled with bizarre and disturbing accounts of unexplained presences. Some of them are based on characters like Pecos Bill, Bigfoot Wallace, and Davy Crockett - loud, outgoing, bigger-than-life "daytime" kinds of people. Others concern themselves with mysterious, shadowy things: giant, footless birds, river spirits, and phantom lights. These ghost stories are told in whispers. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In February 1945, some 80,000 U.S. Marines attacked the heavily defended fortress that the Japanese had constructed on the tiny Pacific island of Iwo Jima. Leaders of the Army Air Forces said they needed the airfields there to provide fighter escort for their B-29 bombers. At the cost of 28,000 American casualties, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Marine Divisions dutifully conquered this desolate piece of hell with a determination and sacrifice that have become legendary in the annals of war, immortalized in the photograph of six Marines raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi. But the Army Air Forces’ fighter operations on Iwo Jima subsequently proved both unproductive and unnecessary. After the fact, a number of other justifications were generated to rationalize this tragically expensive battle. Ultimately, misleading statistics were presented to contend that the number of lives saved by B-29 emergency landings on Iwo Jima outweighed the cost of its capture. In The Ghosts of Iwo Jima, Captain Robert S. Burrell masterfully reconsiders the costs of taking Iwo Jima and its role in the war effort. His thought-provoking analysis also highlights the greater contribution of Iwo Jima’s valiant dead: They inspired a reverence for the Marine Corps that proved critical to its institutional survival and its embodiment of American national spirit. From the 7th War Loan Campaign of 1945 through the flag-raising at Ground Zero in 2001, the immortal image of Iwo Jima has become a symbol of American patriotism itself. Burrell’s searching account of this fabled island conflict will advance our understanding of World War II and its continuing legacy for the twenty-first century. At last, the battle’s ghosts may unveil its ultimate, and most crucial, lessons.

This book was released on 2017-11-02 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ghost stories and strange tales in this book and the previous volumes, are not just fun scary stories, they are also part of our history. Many of these true ghost stories also contain a great deal of this area's past. Who said history has to be boring, right? (This might be a good way to introduce young people to a love of local history; they love scary ghost stories!). Even if you are not sure about the reality of ghosts or just don't believe in them, it is still an interesting light-hearted read from which one may learn something about the area; and there are many strange, interesting tales which are not about ghosts. The same is also true of Volumes One and Two in this series of Red River Hauntings. I tried to write a book that I myself would want to read, and I think Volume 3 is the best of the series! Some who are Christians may be reluctant to, or refuse to believe in the paranormal. The writer of this book is a Christian as well. Even Christianity allows that there are such things in existence as evil spirits and "ministering spirits" called guardian angels. Who knows what some of these paranormal manifestations really are? There is a very appropriate quote from the character named Esther in a Christian based movie done in 1959 called "Ben Hur" which said "The world is more than we know." I believe that. Christians and Jews will remember Balaam's donkey who saw the army of angels in the road which Balaam couldn't see. Were they there, or not?? They most certainly were, but the man couldn't see them. It is left to the reader to believe what they will and draw whatever conclusions they wish from the articles and stories, but they certainly DO make for entertaining reading. This book will not only recount ghost stories, and identify places reputed to be haunted, but also a few other odd, strange or scary phenomena will be examined which have been found to occur in Grayson County and the near vicinity over the years. (Ghosts and odd occurrences don't always stay strictly confined inside county lines. There may be a bit of "paranormal overflow" into neighboring counties and into southern Oklahoma! This book was released on 2006-07-01 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Texas is a big state with a long history. She houses a variety of people with a variety of beliefs. Not everyone believes in ghosts, but some of us do. This book is for those who do and those who don't. It is for those who are looking for proof that ghosts exist, but it is also for those who simply like a good ghost story. These stories are all based on information given to the author by Texas residents, but most of the names and places have been changed. They have been changed at the request of a group of solid, respected citizens and business-people of this great state. They are our friends, neighbors, and relatives, but few people know they harbor a secret. They have all experienced something that left them wondering about that old, timeworn adage: "There's no such thing as ghosts."
