Book excerpt: In this compilation, the editor has endeavored to select those incidents and practical remarks from Mr. Müller's Narratives, that show in an unmistakeable way, both to believers and unbelievers the secret of believing in prayer, the manifest hand of a living God and His unfailing response, in His own time and way, to every petition which is according to His will. The careful perusal of these extracts will thus further the great object which Mr. Müller had in view, without the necessity of reading through the various details of his "Narratives," details which Mr. Müller felt bound to give when writing periodically the account of God's dealings with him._x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: George Müller's life may be described as a primer on the miracle of answered prayer. When Müller felt called by God to care for orphans, he had only a few cents in his pocket. Without ever asking anyone other than God, he received over $7,200,000 dollars (in 1800's money) through prayer alone. Müller established Orphanages in Bristol, England, and founded the "Scriptural Knowledge Institution for Home and Abroad," the object of which was to aid Christian day-schools, to assist missionaries, and to circulate the Scriptures. His life was characterized by prayer, faith, and self-denial in the cause of Christ. During his lifetime, he established 117 schools which educated more than 120,000 young persons, including orphans. From the age of seventy until ninety, Mr. Müller began to make great evangelistic tours. He traveled 200,000 miles, going around the world and preaching in many lands and in several different languages. This classic biography of George Müller tells of his dependence on prayer and his compassionate concern for orphans in Bristol, England. George Müller (1805-1898) was well-known for his constant faith in God and for providing an education to the children under his care, to the point where he was accused of raising the poor above their natural station in life. Müller left a charitable legacy that continues to this day. George Müller of Bristolwas written the year after Müller's death by his close friend, Arthur T. Pierson, an American preacher and evangelist. HENDRICKSON CLASSIC BIOGRAPHIESfeature enduring stories about real people whose lives have been touched and transformed by God, and who in turn have touched others with God's love. Each story has been carefully selected, gently edited if necessary, and freshly typeset, making every account be it ancient or contemporary a compelling read. Great lives reaching across the ages to touch lives today, encouraging, challenging, and inspiring.

In the early 1830s he embarked upon an extraordinary adventure. Disturbed by the faithlessness of the Church in general, he longed to have something to point to as 'visible proof that our God and Father is the same faithful creator as he ever was'. He was more successful than anyone could have believed possible and is as much an example to our generation, as he was to his.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a new edition of George Müller (A Man of Faith and Prayer.) More than 20 illustrations have been added. Four dissertations by George Müller have been added also, and a linked table of contents, as well as the updating of archaic words. In this powerful heroic biography, Arthur T. Pierson explains the exploratory life journey of George Müller, the wonderful man of faith and prayer who spared nothing in his zeal for the gospel of Christ. George Müller (1805-1898), English preacher and philanthropist, was born near Halberstadt, Germany, on the 27th of September 1805, the son of an excise man (formerly, a government agent who collects excise tax on goods and prevents smuggling). He subsequently became a naturalized British subject. Educated in Germany, he resolved in 1826 to devote himself to missionary work, and in 1828 went to London to prepare for an appointment offered him by the Society for promoting Christianity among the Jews. In 1830, however, he gave up the idea of missionary work, and became minister of a small congregation at Teignmouth, Devonshire. He contended that the temporal as well as the spiritual needs of life could be supplied by prayer, and on this principle abolished pew rents and refused to take a fixed salary. After two years at Teignmouth, Müller removed to Bristol where he spent the rest of his life. He devoted himself particularly to the care of orphan children. He began by taking a few under his charge, but in the course of time their number increased to 2000. He settled in five large houses erected for the purpose at Ashley Down, near Bristol. The money required for the carrying on of this work was voluntarily contributed, mainly as a result of the wide circulation of Müller's narrative, The Lord's Dealings with George Müller. When he was over seventy he started on a preaching mission, which lasted nearly seventeen years and included Europe, America, India, Australia and China.
