Book excerpt: In a world where children are forbidden, one couple will not comply... The human race is dying. In the near future, genetic mutation causes everyone born after a certain date to mature into psychopaths. Massacres plague the nation. For the safety of all, anyone born after Red Line Day is interned, and giving birth is illegal. Kyle and Addie are part of Generation Omega, the last people born before Red Line Day and the final senior class that will ever graduate. Their destiny will be to bury their elders and turn out the lights for all mankind. When Addie gets pregnant, the law is clear. She cannot carry a psychopath to term. She and Kyle decide to run. A mythical town called Ashrama is said to exist where people live naturally, free of the disorder that created the Psychopocalypse. They set out to find it. Guided by the shadowy members of the Invisible Skyway, and assisted by their principal and a dying pharmacist from town, they begin a cross-country journey. But much stands in their way. Escaped young psychs and bands of criminals ravage the no man’s land between cities. Government agents hunt anyone planning on breaking the rules of reproduction. And those they must trust often become betrayers when it serves their self-interest. GENERATION OMEGA combines the epic post-apocalyptic scope of THE STAND with the pace of a Lee Child thriller. The storyline taps into the common fears of an unready upcoming generation and the effects of toxins we are releasing into the world.

Book excerpt: The apostolic generation of the 21st century is an omega generation. They live at the end of God's purpose and work their way back to their current earthly position. They live at the omega dimension before and during the execution of God's purpose in the natural realm. The omega dimension is their dwelling place and they call it home. They live in the heavens while functioning in the earth. Their sight has been elevated and their spirit catapulted and established in eternity. They have nailed their spirit and mind to the omega of the purposes of God while physically performing and outworking them in the natural. As far as they are concerned, what they are doing for God in the earth is a done deal, and they draw their strength from this mentality, truth and understanding. They are not running towards an uncertain future, but from the future, they move swiftly to the present. From the omega they alpha the purpose of the Father powerfully on earth, bringing them to an ultimate finish within divinely prescribed time. While many start and are unsure about finishing, this generation finish before they start. They are a generation that lives at the end.

Book excerpt: Over the last several years developing human research suggests that a component of omega-3 fatty acids, long chain ones, contribute particularly to health benefits. Omega-6/3 Fatty Acids: Functions, Sustainability Strategies and Perspectives focuses on developing information on this newly recognized key component. This volume uniquely, and for the first time, focuses on sustainability of natural sources of omega-3 fatty acids variants including long chain ones, and on ways to increase their use and availability to reduce major diseases. The authors review cardiovascular disease, neurological changes and mental health and other diseases like diabetes where long chain omega-3 fatty acids play protective roles from recent human trials. Each chapter evaluates developing information on the possible mechanistic role of long chain omega-3 fatty acids. After showing their requirement and involvement in health promotion there are reviews of various sources and ways to protect and promote them. Authors provide support for the benefits and sources of long chain omega-3 fatty acids and their increased dietary intake that reduce various physical and mental illnesses. Omega-6/3 Fatty Acids: Functions, Sustainability and Perspectives is a unique and important new volume that provides the latest data and reviews to physicians who need to assess serum omega-6/3 and fatty acids to help diagnose risks and change diets and to inform industry and the scientific community with reviews of research for actions including new studies and therapies.

Book excerpt: This book outlines how the Canadian Marconi Company succeeded in a high-technology export market in competition with some of the largest companies and achieved a global leadership position without a domestic market. Central to this story is an aircraft navigation system that uses signals from eight government-owned stations around the world. The aviation community knows it as the Omega System. The Canadian Marconi Company developed its first aircraft Omega Navigation System while the government of the United States of America was setting up the ground stations. Part of this story is the Company's recognition that if it wanted to sell its own product, it had to help promote this new technique in navigation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Voltage-gated ion channels are transmembrane proteins in which at least one gate is controlled by the transmembrane potential. They are frequently very selectively permeable to sodium (Nav channels), potassium (Kv channels) or calcium (Cav channels) ions. Depending on the channels, opening of the activation gate is triggered by membrane depolarization (Kv, Nav and Cav channels) or hyperpolarization (HCN channels for instance). In addition, in many voltage-gated channels, a so-called inactivation gate is also present. Compared to the activation gate, the latter is oppositely coupled to the potential: In Kv, Nav and Cav channels, upon membrane depolarization, the inactivation gate closes whereas the activation gate opens. Depending on the cell types in which they are expressed and their physiological role, various voltage-dependent channels can be characterized by their conductance, ion selectivity, pharmacology and voltage-sensitivity. These properties are mainly dictated by the amino-acids sequence and structure of the pore forming subunit(s), presence of accessory subunit(s), membrane composition, intra- and extracellular ions concentration. Noteworthy, despite a profound variety of these ion channels characteristics, it seems that most of them obey to the same global, four-fold structure now obtained by several X-ray crystallography experiments. Given the wealth of electrophysiological, biochemical, optical, and structural data regarding ion channels voltage-dependency, we decided to put together in this e-book, up to date reviews describing the molecular details of these complex voltage-gated channels.

Book excerpt: Parasitism is a tight association between species in which one organism, the parasite, lives on or inside the host, causing it harm, and is structurally adapted to this way of life. Until the twenty-first century, parasitism was studied by parasitologists, rather than ecologists or evolutionary biologists. Today, parasitism is a major element of evolutionary ecology, as nearly all free-living animals are hosts to at least one parasite species. Since it is in the parasite's evolutionary interest for its host to flourish, long-term coevolution can lead to a stable relationship bordering on mutualism. According to Lynn Margulis, when resources are scarce, natural selection, moves relationships from parasitism to mutualism, as it was brilliantly illustrated in Margulis' endosymbiosis theory, where eukaryotic mitochondria and chloroplasts descended from formerly free-living prokaryotes. Boundary between mutualism, symbiosis, and pathological parasitism is a thin red line that frequently overlapping without a theory enough clear to explain this thigh relationship between the parasite and its host.
