Download or read book Drugs of Abuse written by Raphael C. Wong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-11-05 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive review of the science of drug testing in all its aspects, placing emphasis on technologies that use body fluids other than urine for determining the presence of drugs of abuse. The authors discuss the various body fluid specimens suitable for testing for illicit drugs-particularly saliva, sweat, and hair-describe the structural and manufacturing aspects of on-site testing devices based on lateral flow immunoassay, and detail the pitfalls of using these specimens. They also discuss in detail the problem of sample adulteration and its detection. Since oral fluid has the best potential of succeeding urine as the next matrix of choice for drug detection, four popular saliva testing devices are examined: Intercept®, the Drager Drug Test®, Oratect®, and Drugwipe. Political, social, and legal issues are also considered in articles on privacy, the use of drug testing in courts, and the problem of sample adulteration.

Download or read book Critical Issues in Alcohol and Drugs of Abuse Testing written by Amitava Dasgupta and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-01-10 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical Issues in Alcohol and Drugs of Abuse Testing, Second Edition, addresses the general principles and technological advances for measuring drugs and alcohol, along with the pitfalls of drugs of abuse testing. Many designer drugs, for example, are not routinely tested in drugs of abuse panels and may go undetected in a drug test. This updated edition is a must-have for clinical pathologists, toxicologists, clinicians, and medical review officers and regulators, bridging the gap between technical and clinical information. Topics of note include the monitoring of pain management drugs, bath salts, spices (synthetic marijuana), designer drugs and date rape drugs, and more. Serves as a ready resource of information for alcohol and drug testing Ideal resource for making decisions related to the monitoring and interpretation of results Includes concise content for clinical laboratory scientists, toxicologists and clinicians

Book Synopsis First International Symposium On Current Issues of Drug Abuse Testing by : Jordi Segura
Download or read book First International Symposium On Current Issues of Drug Abuse Testing written by Jordi Segura and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-10-29 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book elaborates on the topics covered by top experts in the field of drug testing at an international symposium held in March, 1990. The book is an excellent reference for all professionals involved in the set up, performance and interpretation of results for drug testing programs using biological fluids (especially urine). U.S. and European perspectives are presented in relation to workplace testing. Organizational aspects for reliability of drug testing include topics ranging from sample collection, chain of custody, and laboratory strategies to legal and regulatory aspects. Critical reviews of analytical methodology involve descriptions and critical issues for the major presumptive and confirmatory techniques, including immunological and gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric methodologies. The book's interpretation of results takes into account the metabolic, pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and clinical aspects. The final chapters of the book include topics addressing aspects for potential international harmonization.
Book Synopsis GC/MS in Clinical Chemistry by : Petra Gerhards
Download or read book GC/MS in Clinical Chemistry written by Petra Gerhards and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-11 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book enables the reader to gain a rapid understanding of GC/MS analysis through a basic knowledge of the fundamental principles, linking these with simple and practical applications in the field of industrial medicine and analysis of drugs. Additional information from other specialist fields is also provided with the aim of helping the analyst to understand their relevance to the interpretation of results. The book describes efficient methods of sample preparation and quality assurance and provides information on epidemiology and pharmacology, without which drug screening is impossible. This comprehensive overview is mainly written for the practical analyst in the clinical laboratory but it is equally suited for teaching purposes.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many chemotherapeutic agents introduced for use in humans are carcinogenic in laboratory animals (Conklin et al. 1965; Shimkin et al. 1966; Griswold et al. 1968; Harris 1976). However, initially their beneficial effect in disseminated cancer was of such short duration that the inevitable death of the patient from his primary disease precluded any clinical manifestation of the carcinogenic potential. During the last decade, chemotherapy has radically changed the outlook for many patients with cancer. Combinations of drugs, administered as the primary treatment, have resulted in high rates of cure in patients with disseminated malignancies, such as stage IV Hodgkin's disease or childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia. In other disseminated forms of neoplasia, induction of a remission, a substantial palliation and a prolongation of survival have been achieved. In many instances of localised disease, where surgery with or without radiotherapy are the primary form of treatment, anticancer drugs have been used with success as adjuvant therapy for distant microscopic disease. With these spectacular achievements, secondary malignancies, in particular acute non-lymphocytic leukemia (ANLL), has become of major concern. Incidence Acute leukemia is the most frequent form of secondary neoplasia in patients treated for cancer (Penn 1981). In one large series, 5. 9% of all ANLL could be attributed to previous chemotherapy (Kapadia et al. 1980).
