Book excerpt: There are 27 books in the New Testament; in "The Bible According to Jeanne," I'm combining some of the books into a single volume. For instance, each of the 4 Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) are stand-alone ("The Gospels According to Jeanne"); next come Acts and Romans as the two books of "The Amazing Early Church." Next sub-series are "The Epistles of Paul the Apostle": 1st & 2nd Corinthians as one book; Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians will be one book; 1st & 2nd Thessalonians, 1st & 2nd Timothy, Titus, and Philemon will be one book; Hebrews will be one book. Then comes "The Epistles of the Apostles," with James, 1st & 2nd Peter, and I'm going to break with tradition to include Jude here; wrapping up with 1st, 2nd & 3rd John with Revelation. That will 12 books all told to cover the entire New Testament. Whew! Next year, I'll tackle the Old Testament ... maybe. Now I know a little how Eugene Peterson felt when he was writing "The Message" - a noble task, that takes years to accomplish.

The history alludes to two such tours, the first (acts 16: 6) in company with Silas, and Shortly after the great Jerusalem Council (about A. D. How much time he spent among them in either tour is not indicated. It does appear, however, that the people received him with warm cordiality and his message with great promptness and hopefulness. Book excerpt: The Bible is simply a love letter compiled into sixty-six books and written over a period ofsixteen hundred years by more than forty authors living on three continents. Although theauthors came from different backgrounds, there is one message, one theme, one thread that runs throughout the entire Bible from the first book, Genesis, to the last book, Revelation. That message is God's redeeming love for mankind--a message that is as relevant for us today as it was two thousand years ago.Paul's Letters to the Churches (Romans, First Corinthians, Second Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, First Thessalonians, and Second Thessalonians) were written by Paul over a period of fourteen years to seven churches scattered throughout Asia Minor, Greece, and Rome. These churches were in different stages of maturity and all needed instruction from the great apostle. Though Paul did not found all of them, he was looked to for leadership as these churches moved through various seasons of growth and challenge. As we will see, these letters contain both doctrine and practical explanation. The apostle took the great truths of the life, death, resurrection, and return of Jesus Christ and explained and applied them for the members of these newly established centers of Christian worship and witness. Because of the different circumstances into which Paul sent these letters, each has its own flavor and emphasis. However, the Spirit of God and the purpose of the Scriptures make them as applicable today as they were nearly two thousand years ago when the apostle originally penned them.

This book was released on 2014-02-19 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity Today Book of the Year For the early church fathers, certain passages in the shorter letters of St. Paul proved particularly important in doctrinal disputes and practical church matters. Pivotal in controversies with the Arians and the Gnostics, the most commented-on christological text in these letters was Colossians 1:15-20, where Jesus is declared "the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation." The fathers found ample support scattered throughout the Pastorals for the divinity of the Son and the Spirit and for the full union of humanity and divinity in the "one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). These commentators also looked to the Pastorals for important teaching on ethics and church life. Chief among the Eastern commentators and widely excerpted throughout this volume is John Chrysostom, praised for his pastoral insight. Other Greek commentators cited include Theodoret of Cyr, Theodore of Mopsuestia, Severian of Gabala, Ignatius of Antioch, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Athanasius, Basil the Great, Gregory of Nazianzus, and Gregory of Nyssa. Western commentators include Augustine, Ambrosiaster, Pelagius, Jerome, Hippolytus, Tertullian, Novatian, Cyprian of Carthage, Hilary of Poitiers, and Ambrose. Of particular interest for their ascetical and devotional insight are works from Syrian and Egyptian churches, including Aphrahat, Ephrem the Syrian, Isaac of Nineveh, and Philoxenus of Mabbug. This Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture volume opens up a treasure house of ancient wisdom that allows these faithful witnesses, some appearing here in English translation for the first time, to speak with eloquence and intellectual acumen to the church today.
