El montaje se sitúa en la tercera y última etapa dentro de la producción de una obra. Esta fase de postproducción, sin embargo, afecta a otras labores tangenciales más allá del montaje como son el grafismo audiovisual, las correcciones de color o los efectos especiales. Debido a que dichas áreas son abordadas en otras asignaturas complementarias, este volumen se centra exclusivamente en todo aquello que orbita estrictamente alrededor de la edición y el montaje audiovisual. Teniendo en cuenta este aspecto, en este libro se introducen algunos de los principales antecedentes del montaje, sus principales definiciones, un breve recorrido histórico a través de sus figuras pioneras, el análisis de sus elementos, sus funciones, así como las diferentes tipologías de montaje. Igualmente, también se aborda el lenguaje audiovisual como gramática de la edición y el montaje. Por otro lado, se radiografían diferentes formatos actuales como son el mashup, el spot, el tráiler, el falso tráiler o el falso documental, que brindan sus propias particularidades dentro del montaje. Finalmente, se atiende a las estructuras interactivas dentro del montaje audiovisual; y se concluye este recorrido con algunas observaciones respecto a la integración, cada vez mayor, de la Inteligencia Artificial dentro de la disciplina. Todo ello acompañado de multitud de ejemplos gráficos —por las idiosincrasias del contenido—, que permitirán una mayor comprensión de la materia.

Worth's pioneering work with Navajo filmmakers broadened our understanding of visual perception and communication even as it presented anthropologists with a means to achieve one of their most cherished goals: somehow to see the world through the eyes of their informants. The papers in this volume trace the development of Worth's thinking and research as he outlined the problems and issues that must be faced in the study of visual communication. He went further than anyone else in setting the intellectual agenda for the field, drawing upon such diverse disciplines as anthropology, sociology, psychology, linguistics, and semiotics. His broader interests are reflected in several papers that apply to problems and concerns of a more practical nature. Among them is Worth's innovative paper on the use of film in education.
