Book Synopsis Introduction to Quantum Information Science by : Masahito Hayashi
Download or read book Introduction to Quantum Information Science written by Masahito Hayashi and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the basics of quantum information, e.g., foundation of quantum theory, quantum algorithms, quantum entanglement, quantum entropies, quantum coding, quantum error correction and quantum cryptography. The required knowledge is only elementary calculus and linear algebra. This way the book can be understood by undergraduate students. In order to study quantum information, one usually has to study the foundation of quantum theory. This book describes it from more an operational viewpoint which is suitable for quantum information while traditional textbooks of quantum theory lack this viewpoint. The current book bases on Shor's algorithm, Grover's algorithm, Deutsch-Jozsa's algorithm as basic algorithms. To treat several topics in quantum information, this book covers several kinds of information quantities in quantum systems including von Neumann entropy. The limits of several kinds of quantum information processing are given. As important quantum protocols, this book contains quantum teleportation, quantum dense coding, quantum data compression. In particular conversion theory of entanglement via local operation and classical communication are treated too. This theory provides the quantification of entanglement, which coincides with von Neumann entropy. The next part treats the quantum hypothesis testing. The decision problem of two candidates of the unknown state are given. The asymptotic performance of this problem is characterized by information quantities. Using this result, the optimal performance of classical information transmission via noisy quantum channel is derived. Quantum information transmission via noisy quantum channel by quantum error correction are discussed too. Based on this topic, the secure quantum communication is explained. In particular, the quantification of quantum security which has not been treated in existing book is explained. This book treats quantum cryptography from a more practical viewpoint.
Book Synopsis High-Level Structures for Quantum Computing by : Jaroslaw Miszczak
Download or read book High-Level Structures for Quantum Computing written by Jaroslaw Miszczak and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with the models of quantum computation. Information processing based on the rules of quantum mechanics provides us with new opportunities for developing more efficient algorithms and protocols. However, to harness the power offered by quantum information processing it is essential to control the behavior of quantum mechanical objects in a precise manner. As this seems to be conceptually difficult at the level of quantum states and unitary gates, high-level quantum programming languages have been proposed for this purpose. The aim of this book is to provide an introduction to abstract models of computation used in quantum information theory. Starting from the abstract models of Turing machine and finite automata, we introduce the models of Boolean circuits and Random Access Machine and use them to present quantum programming techniques and quantum programming languages. Table of Contents: Introduction / Turing machines / Quantum Finite State Automata / Computational Circuits / Random Access Machines / Quantum Programming Environment / Quantum Programming Languages / Imperative quantum programming / Functional Quantum Programming / Outlook

Book Synopsis Quantum Information Processing with Finite Resources by : Marco Tomamichel
Download or read book Quantum Information Processing with Finite Resources written by Marco Tomamichel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-14 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the reader with the mathematical framework required to fully explore the potential of small quantum information processing devices. As decoherence will continue to limit their size, it is essential to master the conceptual tools which make such investigations possible. A strong emphasis is given to information measures that are essential for the study of devices of finite size, including Rényi entropies and smooth entropies. The presentation is self-contained and includes rigorous and concise proofs of the most important properties of these measures. The first chapters will introduce the formalism of quantum mechanics, with particular emphasis on norms and metrics for quantum states. This is necessary to explore quantum generalizations of Rényi divergence and conditional entropy, information measures that lie at the core of information theory. The smooth entropy framework is discussed next and provides a natural means to lift many arguments from information theory to the quantum setting. Finally selected applications of the theory to statistics and cryptography are discussed. The book is aimed at graduate students in Physics and Information Theory. Mathematical fluency is necessary, but no prior knowledge of quantum theory is required.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Quantum Chemistry by : Michael P. Mueller
Download or read book Fundamentals of Quantum Chemistry written by Michael P. Mueller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As quantum theory enters its second century, it is fitting to examine just how far it has come as a tool for the chemist. Beginning with Max Planck’s agonizing conclusion in 1900 that linked energy emission in discreet bundles to the resultant black-body radiation curve, a body of knowledge has developed with profound consequences in our ability to understand nature. In the early years, quantum theory was the providence of physicists and certain breeds of physical chemists. While physicists honed and refined the theory and studied atoms and their component systems, physical chemists began the foray into the study of larger, molecular systems. Quantum theory predictions of these systems were first verified through experimental spectroscopic studies in the electromagnetic spectrum (microwave, infrared and ultraviolet/visible), and, later, by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Over two generations these studies were hampered by two major drawbacks: lack of resolution of spectroscopic data, and the complexity of calculations. This powerful theory that promised understanding of the fundamental nature of molecules faced formidable challenges. The following example may put things in perspective for today’s chemistry faculty, college seniors or graduate students: As little as 40 years ago, force field calculations on a molecule as simple as ketene was a four to five year dissertation project.
Book Synopsis An Introduction to Data Structures and Algorithms by : J.A. Storer
Download or read book An Introduction to Data Structures and Algorithms written by J.A. Storer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-11-09 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data structures and algorithms are presented at the college level in a highly accessible format that presents material with one-page displays in a way that will appeal to both teachers and students. The thirteen chapters cover: Models of Computation, Lists, Induction and Recursion, Trees, Algorithm Design, Hashing, Heaps, Balanced Trees, Sets Over a Small Universe, Graphs, Strings, Discrete Fourier Transform, Parallel Computation. Key features: Complicated concepts are expressed clearly in a single page with minimal notation and without the "clutter" of the syntax of a particular programming language; algorithms are presented with self-explanatory "pseudo-code." * Chapters 1-4 focus on elementary concepts, the exposition unfolding at a slower pace. Sample exercises with solutions are provided. Sections that may be skipped for an introductory course are starred. Requires only some basic mathematics background and some computer programming experience. * Chapters 5-13 progress at a faster pace. The material is suitable for undergraduates or first-year graduates who need only review Chapters 1 -4. * This book may be used for a one-semester introductory course (based on Chapters 1-4 and portions of the chapters on algorithm design, hashing, and graph algorithms) and for a one-semester advanced course that starts at Chapter 5. A year-long course may be based on the entire book. * Sorting, often perceived as rather technical, is not treated as a separate chapter, but is used in many examples (including bubble sort, merge sort, tree sort, heap sort, quick sort, and several parallel algorithms). Also, lower bounds on sorting by comparisons are included with the presentation of heaps in the context of lower bounds for comparison-based structures. * Chapter 13 on parallel models of computation is something of a mini-book itself, and a good way to end a course. Although it is not clear what parallel
