The 20 revised full papers presented together with 4 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 33 submissions. FroCoS'13 seeks to offer a common forum for research in the general area of combination, modularization and integration of systems, with emphasis on logic-based ones, and of their practical use. Typical topics of interest include following subjects: combinations of logics such as combined predicate, temporal, modal or epistemic logics, combinations and modularity in ontologies, combination of decision, procedures, of satisfiability, procedures and of constraint solving techniques, combinations and modularity in term rewriting, integration of equational and other theories into deductive systems, combination of deduction systems and computer algebra, integration of data structures into constraint logic programming and deduction, and modularizing programs and specifications.

Book excerpt: - Donation refusal is high in all the regions of Argentina. - The deficient operative structure is a negative reality that allows inadequate donor maintenance and organ procurement. - In more developed regions, there are a high number of organs which are not utilized. This is true for heart, liver and lungs. Small waiting lists for these organs probably reflect an inadequate economic coverage for these organ transplant activities. - There is a long waiting list for cadaveric kidney transplants, which reflect poor procurement and transplant activity. - Lack of awareness by many physicians leads to the denouncing of brain deaths. In spite of these factors, we can say that there has been a significant growth in organ procuration and transplantation in 1993, after the regionalization of the INCUCAI. Conclusions Is there a shortage of organs in Argentina? There may be. But the situation in Argentina differs from that in Europe, as we have a pool of organs which are not utilized (donation refusal, operational deficits, lack of denouncing of brain deaths). Perhaps, in the future, when we are able to make good use of all the organs submitted for transplantation, we will be able to say objectively whether the number of organs is sufficient or not. Acknowledgements I would like to thank the University of Lyon and the Merieux Foundation, especially Professors Traeger, Touraine and Dr. Dupuy for the honour of being invited to talk about the issue of organ procurement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past 25 years the CADE conference has been the major forum for the presentation of new results in automated deduction. This volume contains the papers and system descriptions selected for the 17th International Conference on Automated Deduction, CADE-17, held June 17-20, 2000,at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA). Fifty-three research papers and twenty system descriptions were submitted by researchers from ?fteen countries. Each submission was reviewed by at least three reviewers. Twenty-four research papers and ?fteen system descriptions were accepted. The accepted papers cover a variety of topics related to t- orem proving and its applications such as proof carrying code, cryptographic protocol veri?cation, model checking, cooperating decision procedures, program veri?cation, and resolution theorem proving. The program also included three invited lectures: “High-level veri?cation using theorem proving and formalized mathematics” by John Harrison, “Sc- able Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Systems” by Henry Kautz, and “Connecting Bits with Floating-Point Numbers: Model Checking and Theorem Proving in Practice” by Carl Seger. Abstracts or full papers of these talks are included in this volume. In addition to the accepted papers, system descriptions, andinvited talks, this volumecontains one page summaries of four tutorials and ?ve workshops held in conjunction with CADE-17.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book illustrates how to use description logic-based formalisms to their full potential in the creation, indexing, and reuse of multimedia semantics. To do so, it introduces researchers to multimedia semantics by providing an in-depth review of state-of-the-art standards, technologies, ontologies, and software tools. It draws attention to the importance of formal grounding in the knowledge representation of multimedia objects, the potential of multimedia reasoning in intelligent multimedia applications, and presents both theoretical discussions and best practices in multimedia ontology engineering. Readers already familiar with mathematical logic, Internet, and multimedia fundamentals will learn to develop formally grounded multimedia ontologies, and map concept definitions to high-level descriptors. The core reasoning tasks, reasoning algorithms, and industry-leading reasoners are presented, while scene interpretation via reasoning is also demonstrated. Overall, this book offers readers an essential introduction to the formal grounding of web ontologies, as well as a comprehensive collection and review of description logics (DLs) from the perspectives of expressivity and reasoning complexity. It covers best practices for developing multimedia ontologies with formal grounding to guarantee decidability and obtain the desired level of expressivity while maximizing the reasoning potential. The capabilities of such multimedia ontologies are demonstrated by DL implementations with an emphasis on multimedia reasoning applications.
