Book excerpt: "Make Room for Clarity" takes you through the journey of how and why people accumulate so much stuff. Reading it will help you understand the wants and desires that fuel our buying, the reasons why people continue to buy beyond their needs, and why it's so hard to let go of stuff even when we don't want or use it. Rick Woods reminds us that when our possessions don't contribute to our lives or lifestyles, they are filling up the space between us and the life we could be living. His book invites us to make room for clarity in our lives by following the clear, concise, and realistic suggestions for de-cluttering and letting go without feeling guilty. With each step, you will be creating space in your home-and your life. The end result will be items you feel good around, possessions that serve you while meeting your needs, things you're happy to have other people see, and a home that makes your heart sing. Each Chapter weaves us through "The Stuff Cycle," using practical, easy to follow exercises which teach us how to remove the clutter that is getting in our way. Want: This is the "seed" of clutter, and it is easily influenced by the exterior forces around us. Still, we make the decisions. If we continue to make choices based on our wants and desires, unchecked, we will end up owning more stuff than we need or use. Own: This is the "birth" of clutter. Ownership feels good, but sometimes gets confused with the idea that owning more will feel better. Unfortunately, the more we buy, the more likely our stuff is to own us. Use: This is the "presence" of clutter. If we aren't using it, it's just there. The question is, "Have we used it within a reasonable amount of time?" We all know the answer to this question. We just have to be honest with ourselves. Keep: This is the "growth" of clutter. The longer we continue to keep things we no longer want, need, or use in our homes, the more the clutter builds up. The result is stress, stress, and more stress. Store: This is the "hoarding" of clutter. Everything needs a home-in our home. If we don't take the initiative to store our stuff, it's all around us, overstuffing our homes. Remove: This is the "path" to clarity. The more you remove the stuff that no longer serves a purpose in your home or your life, the closer you will be to having a home and a life filled with clarity. Looking to remove the overwhelm and stress caused by the volume of stuff that has accumulated in your home? Take back your life now and make room for clarity today

Book excerpt: An exploration of minimal writing—texts generally shorter than a sentence—as complex, powerful literary and visual works. In the 1960s and 70s, minimal and conceptual artists stripped language down to its most basic components: the word and the letter. Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer, Carl Andre, Lawrence Weiner, and others built lucrative careers from text-based art. Meanwhile, poets and writers created works of minimal writing—visual texts generally shorter than a sentence. (One poem by Aram Saroyan reads in its entirety: eyeye.) In absence of clutter, Paul Stephens offers the first comprehensive account of minimal writing, arguing that it is equal in complexity and power to better-known, more commercial text-based art. Minimal writing, Stephens writes, can be beguilingly simple on the surface, but can also offer iterative reading experiences on multiple levels, from the fleeting to the ponderous. “absence of clutter,” for example, the entire text of a poem by Robert Grenier, is both expressive and self-descriptive. Stephens first sets out a theoretical framework for reading and viewing minimal writing and then offers close readings of works of minimal writing by Saroyan, Grenier, Norman Pritchard, Natalie Czech, and others. He “reverse engineers” recent works by Jen Bervin, Craig Dworkin, and Christian Bök that draw on molecular biology, and explores print-on-demand books by Holly Melgard, code poetry by Nick Montfort, Twitter-based work by Allison Parrish, and the use of Instagram by Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Saroyan. Text, it seems, is becoming ever more prevalent in visual art; meanwhile, poems are getting shorter. When reading has become scanning a screen and writing tapping out a text, absence of clutter invites us to reflect on how we read, see, and pay attention.

As you begin to understand the concept of innate thinking, the benefits will start emerging in every corner of your life. As you think less, you'll win more — at work, at home, and at the game of life as a whole. You'll rid your mind of clutter for good as you focus on what matters, and finally free up the time you need to pursue your dreams. Life's constant bombardment of "to-do" and "urgent" pushes your own priorities clear off the radar. Before you know it, you're always busy, but not getting very much accomplished. Personal goals fall by the wayside as you struggle just to keep up with day-to-day life. This book shows you how to cut the noise and clear the fog, and start working on what matters to you. Harness the power of insight and principles Discover your true identity and innate wisdom Build better relationships and stronger connections Discard toxic goals and pursue authentic desires Clarity is the mind's natural state, a state to which it will always return if given the chance. Although it's evident in children, most adults have had this ability conditioned out of them by our "go-go-go" society, leaving them mentally muddy, stressed, and ineffectual. The Little Book of Clarity helps you erase that conditioning and gain the peace of mind to live a life you love — permanently.
