Book excerpt: In November 1955, Colonel Earl Red Blaik, the head football coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point, told his team he did not relish the prospect of crossing the field the next day in front of one hundred thousand fans to congratulate the arch rival Navy coach on a victory. Then a player announced, Colonel, youre not going to take that walk tomorrow. His quarterback, Don Holleder, had served notice that he was about to lead his team to the greatest win in Army football history. In the first authoritative biography of Don Holleder, former sportscaster Terry Tibbetts shares the inspirational story of how Don overcame limited academic skills to attend West Point; grew to be an All-American football end; volunteered to become quarterback when the coach needed leadership; and sacrificed his football career to serve his country in Vietnam. Along with remembrances from Dons daughters, his West Point roommates, fellow players, and Army colleagues, Tibbetts presents a candid glimpse into the journey of a man whose life was not just about winning, but also about finding the courage and perseverance to overcome great obstacles. The inspiring story of Don Holleder is a model for anyone willing to work hard to achieve, win, and most of all, place the team above self.

Book Synopsis Daily Motivational Quotes–If misery loves company, than motivation breeds success! by : Susan A. Enns
Download or read book Daily Motivational Quotes–If misery loves company, than motivation breeds success! written by Susan A. Enns and published by B2B Sales Connections Inc.. This book was released on 2010-12-13 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a collection of my favorite motivational quotes all in one place! Some are sales related, some are business related, but most are simply life related. They are in no particular order, just a random thought for each day of the year to help keep you on a positive note. If the old saying “misery loves company” is true, then motivation must breed happiness! I have spent my entire career, in one form or another, in sales. As such, I have dealt with rejection almost every day of my working life. Don’t get me wrong, I have had a very successful career, but no sales person hears "yes" all the time. In fact, it is just the opposite. We hear "no" many more times than we hear yes. In sales, rejection is just something we deal with every day. When we let it get us down, it shows to everyone we meet, including our customers, our colleagues and our family. Essentially, our negative attitude becomes our worst enemy. Even if you are not is sales, if you let your negative thoughts get the best of you, you are your own worst enemy too. Given my profession, I have been asked many times how do I stay positive? It can’t be easy to keep the right attitude when you have to deal with rejection every day, right? Yes, actually, it can be. I stay positive because I choose to stay positive. I actually make a conscious effort to not be negative and to only be positive. I discovered long ago that a motivational quote always puts me in the right frame of mind. I started searching the internet for a daily quote that made me smile or motivated me in some way. Each day I did this, I found that I became better mentally prepared to tackle the day. More importantly, I was just happier! I started to share what I found online. I would put a daily motivational quote in my Facebook and LinkedIn statuses, I would blog about them, and I would tweet them on Twitter. Friends, family, and business associates all enjoyed them so much they started calling me "The Quote Lady." More importantly, everyone’s positive attitude seemed to be contagious. The more the motivation spread, the more everyone became motivated! That’s when I decided to pull together a collection of my favorite motivational quotes all in one place, and this eBook was created. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Remember, your thoughts control your outcomes and you control your thoughts. So choose wisely! "Thank you for your everyday contribution to our success!" "It is really amazing for what you are doing in helping others stay positive and overcome their challenges, whatsoever small or big they may be" "Susan inspires me to "do better" and help others." "Like it...Very Motivating"
Book Synopsis Forgotten Courage by : Clarence Henderson
Download or read book Forgotten Courage written by Clarence Henderson and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2023-04-16 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the summer of 1955, a surge of anti-black violence included the kidnapping and brutal murder of fourteen-year-old Emmett Till. This crime provoked widespread and assertive protests from black and white Americans. By December 1955, the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott led by Martin Luther King, Jr. began a protracted campaign of nonviolent civil disobedience to protest segregation that attracted national and international attention. In 1956, a group of Southern senators and congressmen signed the “Southern Manifesto,” vowing resistance to racial integration by all “lawful means.” Opposition heightened in 1957–1958 during the crisis over integration at Little Rock’s Central High School. At the same time, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights led to a successful drive for passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and continued to press for even stronger legislation. NAACP Youth Council chapters staged sit-ins at whites-only lunch counters, sparking a movement against segregation in public accommodations throughout the South in 1960. In this book, you get to sit with Clarence Henderson at the Woolworth food counter, where only white people had the privilege to have a meal. Nonviolent direct action increased during the presidency of John F. Kennedy, beginning with the 1961 Freedom Rides. Hundreds of demonstrations erupted in cities and towns across the nation. Dr. Paul Brintley, D.Min.

Book Synopsis The Diary of a Mad Chef by : Daniel Dellavecchia
Download or read book The Diary of a Mad Chef written by Daniel Dellavecchia and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This family cookbook morphed into much more for me during the writing process. It began by contacting friends and family to collect recipes for what I thought would be a simple process. During those conversations and with my own memories, a flood of personal history evolved in my mind. What began as a repository of food recipes became much more to me, and I decided to collect the process in the form of this book, The Diary of a Mad Chef, to also include photos of those people and selected short stories. Food has always been the center of our family's common narrative thread, and I attempted to place the face and the stories of my friends and family with the recipes as I remember them. Along with the feedback and photos from my friends and family, it became a two-year-long effort to compile, edit, and publish this book. The journey has been a magnificent experience for me, and I am grateful to have had the time and opportunity to write this book.
