Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some people think that the more mature we get, the easier we can bond with new friends. Others believe that the older we get, the more challenging relationships become. With age we might be less fl exible and more set in our ways. Lonely people often tend to regress to their childhood years. They become almost like children that seek their mothers nurturing and love. By reaching out to others for attention or love, we expect to get this nurturing feeling that we are seeking in return. Those who accept and embrace certain realizations have a greater chance for long-term success with partners, friends, and employers. For an older person that has a possessive, jealous streak could be challenging meeting new friends. It is always better to choose compatible friends to communicate and spend quality time with. Boring and nosy friends are nothing more than a disaster in a friendship. Try to get along with relatives and neighbors. If you fi nd it diffi cult, change sceneries, meet new people in your community, take a walk in a park, enjoy nature, and meet other nature lovers.

Book excerpt: While writing this story, I will be as truthful and honest as possible in describing my thoughts and actions immediately prior to being admitted to the hospital. It was at this time that I completely lost all sense of reality and started to live in the world of my thoughts, where I create my own reality. I will include notes from hospitals, so-called epicrisis (a critical or analytical summing up especially of a medical case history), and comments from friends and relatives. It all began in January 2006, ten years ago. At that point, I had successfully finished my education at Riga City Pavnieku Gymnasium and was studying political science at the University of Latvia. After the first year in university, I had the opportunity to go to Denmark and study European democracy and politics at Folkehojskole. As the programme was relevant to my studies at university, my tutors agreed, and I would be able to continue in my group when I returned. I thought I was going to continue with my coursework from Latvia while in Denmark, but I realised that they were two different, unrelated courses. Returning to Latvia, I soon realised I was not ready to take the ongoing examinations; and although my group mate had regularly sent me course notes, I did not bother to study or pay attention. I remember very clearly that day when I had to go to university, but I chose the easiest option and stayed at home. I thought I could take a year out from university, relax, enjoy my life, and teach children dancing. Unfortunately, this did not happen.

Book excerpt: Linnea Larson is willing to do anything to keep her family’s Minneapolis dinner theatre from going under. Anything, that is, besides accepting a date from the Hollywood hunk hired to inject a dose of star power into their production of Guys & Dolls. It’s a toss up whether his greatest claim to fame is playing a superhero on screen, or a super stud off screen. Neither fact convinces her he’s got what it takes to share her stage. Luke Powell has fame, fortune, and an endless string of women, but also a lingering dissatisfaction with his picture perfect life. Looking for a change, he escapes to his theatrical roots. What he finds are wary cast mates, a nervous best friend convinced the show will ruin Luke’s career, and an adorable costar who stubbornly refuses to go out with him. Suddenly singing and dancing aren’t the only challenges he’ll tackle over the summer. Despite Luke dragging her into his daily paparazzi nightmare, Linnea can’t deny her mounting attraction to his irresistible charm. And even if she’s crazy enough to chance getting involved, their fling would have a guaranteed expiration date. He’s headed back to Hollywood at the end of the run, and she's tied to her family's theatre. Why risk the inevitable heartbreak? Their job is to act like they’re in love, but will they decide it's worth the leap to fall in love for real?

Book excerpt: The third in a series about how a young single mother, faced with the task of keeping an inn and winery going in Oregon wine country, becomes the matriarch of a family filled with love and unexpected surprises as the inn continues to grow into a well-known hotel. Home is where your heart leads you… Louise “Lulu” Kingsley is thrilled to discover after years of wishing for a sibling, Cami Chandler is her half-sister. When Cami invites her to live at Chandler Hill, Lulu jumps at the chance to leave behind all the heartache in her recent life. Not the spoiled little rich girl the media would like everyone to think, Lulu digs into marketing for the inn and winery, feeling more comfortable there than she ever did in California with her political father. Better yet, her mother is becoming a stronger, happier person and shares the idea of becoming part of a new family. Even though Lulu is aware that Miguel Lopez is the kind of guy who represents everything she’s trying to forget, she’s attracted to him. Following a heartbreaking situation, she steps away from their relationship. Lulu settles in at Chandler Hill, coping the best way she knows—by working hard. But when Cami’s beloved grandfather, Rafe, has a stroke, Lulu realizes life is short and knows she must make things right with Miguel, and learns that home is where your heart leads you. Book excerpt: Men, jobs, children, personal crises, irreconcilable social gaps—these are just a few of the strange and confusing reasons which may cause a female friendship to end. No matter the cause, the breakup of a female friendship leaves a woman devastated and asking herself difficult questions. Was someone to blame? Is the friendship worth fighting for? How can I prevent this from ever happening again? Even more upsetting is that women suffering from broken friendships often have no one to confide in; while the loss of a romantic partner garners sympathy among peers, discussing the loss of a platonic friend is often impossible without making other friends jealous or uncomfortable. Written by journalist and psychologist Irene Levine, Ph.D., Best Friends Forever is an uplifting and heroically honest book for abandoned friends seeking solace. Dr. Levine draws from the personal testimonials of thousands of women to provide anecdotes and groundbreaking solutions to these complicated situations. Offering tools for personal assessment, case stories, and actionable advice for saving, ending, or re-evaluating a relationship, Levine shows that breakups are sometimes inevitable. Although the dissolution of female friendships can be difficult, Best Friends Forever teaches women to stop blaming themselves and probing the wounds, and that the sad experience of a broken friendship can make them stronger people, and more able to handle their relationships with wisdom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book by a founding member of Little River Band: the first Australian band to achieve a gold album in the US. 'Every Day of My Life' tells the remarkable tale of how Beeb Birtles, David Briggs, Graeham Goble, George McArdle, Derek Pellicci and Glenn Shorrock conquered the world - and then lost their band. The book also documents how a young Dutch boy named Gerard Bertelkamp arrived in Adelaide, unable to speak English, and ended up in not one but two major bands: Zoot (with Darryl Cotton and Rick Springfield) and Little River Band (with Glenn Shorrock and later John Farnham). As the title suggests, Every Day of My Life is an intensely personal journey. Beeb Birtles might have lost his band but he discovered many other things along the way. LRB's hits include 'Reminiscing', 'Help Is On Its Way', 'Lonesome Loser', 'The Night Owls', 'It's a Long Way There', 'Cool Change', 'Happy Anniversary', 'Lady', 'Curiosity (Killed the Cat)', 'Witchery', and 'Every Day of My Life'. Due to a bizarre copyright case, Beeb Birtles can no longer make music as Little River Band. But he can tell their incredible story - and his own incredible story.

Book excerpt: Life Happens-Enjoy the ride. Life Happens is full of impactful moments that shaped the life of one woman. She has experienced the loss of family, friends, and her own childhood memories. She will take you on a journey through her life experiences and share what she learned along the way. She shares her greatest joys and her struggles through her most traumatic experiences. There were times she felt God was over estimating how much she could handle, but she never lost her faith. She did stray away from God; there were times she even ran away, but deep down she always felt his presence in her life. You will get to know Tonya Strahan as you enjoy the ride-the ride she calls Life. She lived a life that was normal to her, but as she grew, she realized that life could be better. She learned that although struggles may come her way, how she reacted to it was the key to happiness. She has lived, experienced, and overcame with faith, hope, and love. She hopes her reflections, throughout her life, inspire and encourage you to press on and fight the good fight with faith and more self-love. Being misunderstood drove her to try harder, to be better for those around her until she realized it's not about them. It's not about how others perceive you or what they think about you. They can think you're a purple polka-dotted dinosaur, but it doesn't make you a purple polka-dotted dinosaur. She had to learn that the hard way, but in the end, she learned to love others where they are, but most importantly, to love herself. That is the key to learning how to enjoy the ride. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Influenced at a young age by classic country, Tejano, western swing, and the popular music of wartime America, blues musician Delbert McClinton grew up with a backstage pass to some of the most significant moments in American cultural and music history. From his birth on the high plains of West Texas during World War II to headlining sold-out cruises on chartered luxury ships well into his seventies, McClinton admits he has been “One of the Fortunate Few.” This book chronicles McClinton’s path through a free-range childhood in Lubbock and Fort Worth; an early career in the desegregated roadhouses along Fort Worth’s Jacksboro Highway, where he led the house bands for Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, and others while making a name for himself as a regional player in the birth of rock and roll; headlining shows in England with a little-known Liverpool quartet called The Beatles; and heading back to Texas in time for the progressive movement, kicking off Austin’s burgeoning role in American music history. Today, more than sixty years after he first stepped onto a stage, Delbert McClinton shows no signs of slowing down. He continues to play sold-out concert and dance halls, theaters, and festival events across the nation. An annual highlight for his fans is the Delbert McClinton Sandy Beaches Cruise, the longest-running music-themed luxury cruise in history at more than twenty-five years of operation. More than the story of a rags-to-riches musician, Delbert McClinton: One of the Fortunate Few offers readers a soundtrack to some of the most pivotal moments in the history of American popular music—all backed by a cooking rhythm section and featuring a hot harmonica lead.

I think I need to go to the hospital, but I’m so dizzy I don’t think I can walk.” The last words my wife spoke to me before she slipped into a coma, never to wake up. It began as a wonderful vacation with friends but turned into a nightmare. A nightmare that changed my life in a way no one could have foreseen. Death has a way doing that. The experts try to help you in the aftermath but each of us go through the grieving process in our own way. My path to recovery is unique to me. Your path will be unique to you. No one can prepare you for this kind of journey, you must make your own path. I have read what some of the experts have to say and some of their advice was helpful. Some of their advice just didn’t help at all. “Last Lunch” is my story of what it is like to lose your best friend, your wife, your lover, the mother of your children, and then pick up the pieces and go on living. It is a story of my faith in God and the love of family and friends. It’s a story that has no ending. One day I just stopped writing.
