Maybe you were on the right path with God, and you turned away. Suddenly things that were once going well now are going downhill. Those who were your so-called friends have turned their backs on you. Why? Because you lost everything when you placed someone or something ahead of God. This includes your family. I encourage people to write. I have found it to be a form of therapy. A way to express myself out loud. This book represents a group of poems from my Spiritual Guidance Collection about my life that I experienced during the good and bad times. Someone might say the poems are a conversation with God, a form of prayer. My hope is that everyone who reads this book will find their way back to God the Creator.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In "Food From My Heart", Martínez describes the connection between Mexico and food, between food and culture. Mexican cooking is itself the result of the collision of cultures; it brings together Old and New World ingredients—rice, onions, corriander, from the Old; corn, chiles, beans, tomatoes, from the New—and the culinary influences of its constantly shifting ethnic mosaic—the Mayans, Aztecs, Spanish, French, Germans, Chinese.Martínez has drawn upon these influences, of friends and family, of traditional foods of many regions of Mexico, to create her own personal style of cooking, one that is imaginative and highly flavorful, easy to prepare, and evocative of the classic Mexican cooking upon which it is based. It is all brought together—the traditional and new—in the form of memoir, stories, and more than 175 recipes to create this singular cookbook. Now celebrating it's 20th anniversary.

Book excerpt: Little John lives a lifetime of adventure—from humble ferryman to legendary outlaw John Little is strong enough to be a knight, but he knows he is destined to life as a thief. He spends his days on the river, poling nobles back and forth on a wooden ferry, the master of which robs the passengers blind. When an arrogant knight draws his sword to protect his purse, John defends his unscrupulous boss. The struggle leaves the knight dead, and John becomes an outlaw who must flee into the forest to hide from the king’s justice. John thinks his life is over, but his adventure has just begun. In shadowy Sherwood Forest, John meets a mysterious bandit dressed in green, who goes by the name Robin Hood. At Robin Hood’s side, John Little becomes “Little John”—friend of the poor, defender of the weak, and scourge of evil men across Nottinghamshire.

Book excerpt: From the Emmy award-winning chef and bestselling author, a collection of wonderful, uncomplicated recipes from little-known parts of Italy, celebrating time-honored techniques and elemental, good family cooking. Penetrating the heart of Italy—starting at the north, working down to the tip, and ending in Sardinia—Lidia unearths a wealth of recipes: • From Trentino–Alto Adige: Delicious Dumplings with Speck (cured pork); apples accenting soup, pasta, salsa, and salad; local beer used to roast a chicken and to braise beef • From Lombardy: A world of rice—baked in a frittata, with lentils, with butternut squash, with gorgonzola, and the special treat of Risotto Milan-Style with Marrow and Saffron • From Valle d’Aosta: Polenta with Black Beans and Kale, and local fontina featured in fondue, in a roasted pepper salad, and embedded in veal chops • From Liguria: An array of Stuffed Vegetables, a bread salad, and elegant Veal Stuffed with a Mosaic of Vegetables • From Emilia-Romagna: An olive oil dough for making the traditional, versatile vegetable tart erbazzone, as well as the secrets of making tagliatelle and other pasta doughs, and an irresistible Veal Scaloppine Bolognese • From Le Marche: Farro with Roasted Pepper Sauce, Lamb Chunks with Olives, and Stuffed Quail in Parchment • From Umbria: A taste of the sweet Norcino black truffle, and seductive dishes such as Potato-Mushroom Cake with Braised Lentils, Sausages in the Skillet with Grapes, and Chocolate Bread Parfait • From Abruzzo: Fresh scrippelle (crêpe) ribbons baked with spinach or garnishing a soup, fresh pasta made with a “guitar,” Rabbit with Onions, and Lamb Chops with Olives • From Molise: Fried Ricotta; homemade cavatelli pasta in a variety of ways; Spaghetti with Calamari, Shrimp, and Scallops; and Braised Octopus • From Basilicata: Wedding Soup, Fiery Maccheroni, and Farro with Pork Ragù • From Calabria: Shepherd’s Rigatoni, steamed swordfish, and Almond Biscottini • From Sardinia: Flatbread Lasagna, two lovely eggplant dishes, and Roast Lobster with Bread Crumb Topping This is just a sampling of the many delights Lidia has uncovered. The 175 recipes she shares with us in this rich feast of a book represent the work of the local people and friends with whom she made intimate contact—the farmers, shepherds, foragers, and artisans who produce local cheeses, meats, olive oils, and wines. And in addition, her daughter, Tanya, takes us on side trips in each of the twelve regions to share her love of the country and its art.

Book excerpt: The months covered by this volume illustrate the variety of topics characteristic of the Jefferson Papers. Subjects range from Jefferson's continued overseeing of the planning of the Federal District that became Washington, D.C., to his worries over his debts and his exchange of correspondence with the free black Benjamin Banneker. This period, an unusually significant time for Jefferson as Secretary of State, saw the opening of a new phase of diplomacy. When Jefferson returned to the capital after a stay at Monticello in the fall, the first British minister to the United States had arrived, and the new representative from France had been in the city since August. During this time Jefferson began keeping private notes on important political conversations, notes that he later collected and bound. These notes were published after his death as Jefferson's Anas, a work never closely examined until now and often extended beyond Jefferson's evident intention. Ascertaining that Jefferson collected and intended only those documents from his tenure as Secretary of State to be used to challenge the Federalist interpretation of Washington's administration, the present editors publish the Anas notes not as compiled late in Jefferson's life or as amplified by others, but in chronological order, in the context in which they were written. Also discovered during the preparation of this volume was a new, later date or that portion of Jefferson's famous Espistolary Record written in his own hand.
