This book was released on 1970 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a survey of numerous papers by other authors dealing with the stability and free vibrations of thin isotropic supported cylindrical and conical shells under various boundary conditions, the present authors come to the conclusion that the formulas so far suggested for the determination of the frequencies of vibrations of the conical shells are cumbersome, and that their applicability range is not well defined. The present paper investigates the stability and small extra-axial free vibrations of structurally orthotropic cylindrical and conical shells under the action of axial compression and external pressure under various boundary conditions: six types of clamping for the cylindrical and three types for conical shells. The inertial forces in the normal and circular directions are taken into account, and the effect of the boundary conditions on the lowest frequency of the free vibrations of the shell is studied. The results of the calculations agree within the calculation errors, with the results of other authors. (Author).

Book Synopsis The Behavior of Shells Composed of Isotropic and Composite Materials by : Jack R. Vinson
Download or read book The Behavior of Shells Composed of Isotropic and Composite Materials written by Jack R. Vinson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shell structures are used in all phases of structures, from space vehicles to deep submergence hulls, from nuclear reactors to domes on sport arenas and civic buildings. With new materials and manufacturing methods, curved thin walled structures are being used increasingly. This text is a graduate course in the theory of shells. It covers shells of isotropic materials, such as metal alloys and plastics, and shells of composite materials, such as fibre reinforced polymer, metal or ceramic matrix materials. It provides the essential information for an understanding of the underlying theory, and solution of some of the basic problems. It also provides a basis to study the voluminous shell literature. Beyond being primarily a textbook, it is intended also for self study by practising engineers who would like to learn more about the behaviour of shells. The book has two parts: Part I deals with shells of isotropic materials. In this part the mathematical formulations are introduced involving curvilinear coordinates. The techniques of solutions and resulting behavior is compared to planar thin walled isotropic structures such as plates and beams. Part II then treats the behavior of shells, involving anisotropic composite materials, so widely used today. The analysis involves the complications due to the many elastic constants, effects of transverse shear deformation, thermal thickening and offer effects arising from the properties of composite materials.
Book Synopsis Vibration Evaluation of Sandwich Conical Shells with Fiber-reinforced Composite Facings by : Charles W. Bert
Download or read book Vibration Evaluation of Sandwich Conical Shells with Fiber-reinforced Composite Facings written by Charles W. Bert and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes an experimental and analytical evaluation of the vibrational characteristics of a truncated conical shell of sandwich construction. The shell was composed of fiber glass-epoxy facings and aluminum honeycomb core. The dimensions were selected to be typical of an Army aircraft fuselage structure. The shell was suspended by soft cords, to closely approximate free-free boundary conditions, and was excited laterally by an electrodynamic shaker placed at various locations along the shell. This analysis includes the orthotropic nature of the composite-material facings. Values of the damping logarithmic decrement are also presented. (Author).

Book Synopsis Introduction to Finite Element Vibration Analysis by : Maurice Petyt
Download or read book Introduction to Finite Element Vibration Analysis written by Maurice Petyt and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-08-23 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an introduction to the mathematical basis of finite element analysis as applied to vibrating systems. Finite element analysis is a technique that is very important in modeling the response of structures to dynamic loads. Although this book assumes no previous knowledge of finite element methods, those who do have knowledge will still find the book to be useful. It can be utilised by aeronautical, civil, mechanical, and structural engineers as well as naval architects. This second edition includes information on the many developments that have taken place over the last twenty years. Existing chapters have been expanded where necessary, and three new chapters have been included that discuss the vibration of shells and multi-layered elements and provide an introduction to the hierarchical finite element method.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Theory of Sandwich Shells with Strong Orthotropic Core by : Ju-Chin Huang
Download or read book Nonlinear Theory of Sandwich Shells with Strong Orthotropic Core written by Ju-Chin Huang and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A geometrically nonlinear theory of sandwich shells with strong orthotropic core is presented. The principle of minimum energy is used to derive the equilibrium equations and the natural boundary conditions of the composite shell. The theory takes the flexural rigidity as well as transverse shear deformation of the core into account, while including, as usual, the flexural rigidities of the facings. The core layer of the sandwich shell is of orthotropic material having symmetry with respect to two orthogonal planes. The equations of equilibrium and boundary conditions are simplified for the sandwich shells of revolution. Finally the cylindrical, conical, ogival, and the shallow spherical sandwich shell equations are given and their methods of solution are discussed. (Author).
