Book Synopsis Globalization and the Seduction of Africa's Ruling Class by : K. Martial Frindéthié
Download or read book Globalization and the Seduction of Africa's Ruling Class written by K. Martial Frindéthié and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assessing development thinking from a multidisciplinary perspective, this work argues that Africa is undeveloped not in spite of globalization, but precisely because of globalization's saintly mission of unbridled liberalization and Euro-American teleology, which has reduced the African governing class to a body of abandonment-neurotics, co-conspirators in the First World's human and economic genocides. The work suggests subsequently that, provided Africans remain impervious to the anti-Asian agitation which is sweeping the Euro-American world today, they have invaluable lessons in standpoint development to learn from India's and China's experiences with liberalism as well as constructive alliances to establish with these emerging transitional nations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emmanuel Neba-Fuh in this comprehensive chronological compilation and thorough narrative of the history of white supremacy in Africa provide an unflinching fresh case that African poverty - a central tenet of the “shithole” demonization, is not a natural feature of geography or a consequence of culture, but a direct product of imperial extraction from the continent – a practice that continues into the present. A brutal and nefarious tale of slave trade, genocides, massacres, dictators supported, progressive leaders murdered, weapon-smuggling, cloak-and-dagger secret services, corruption, international conspiracy, and spectacular military operations, he raised the most basic and fundamental question - how was Africa (the world’s richest continent) raped and reduced to what Donald J. Trump called “shithole?” By V. Mbanwie

Book Synopsis The Failure and Feasibility of Capitalism in Africa by : Kenneth Omeje
Download or read book The Failure and Feasibility of Capitalism in Africa written by Kenneth Omeje and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-23 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that capitalism has practically failed to deliver the long-desired economic transformation and inclusive development in postcolonial Africa. The principal factor that accounts for this failure is the prolific non-productive forms of capitalism that tend to be dominant in the African continent and their governance dimensions. The research explores how and why capitalism has failed in the African context and the feasibility of turning it around. The book meets the demands of diverse audiences in the fields of International Political Economy, Development Economics, Political Science, and African Studies. The author adopts an unconventional narrativist approach that makes the book amenable to general readership.
Download or read book Freedom Time written by Gary Wilder and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2015-02-14 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Freedom Time reconsiders decolonization from the perspectives of Aimé Césaire (Martinique) and Léopold Sédar Senghor (Senegal) who, beginning in 1945, promoted self-determination without state sovereignty. As politicians, public intellectuals, and poets they struggled to transform imperial France into a democratic federation, with former colonies as autonomous members of a transcontinental polity. In so doing, they revitalized past but unrealized political projects and anticipated impossible futures by acting as if they had already arrived. Refusing to reduce colonial emancipation to national independence, they regarded decolonization as an opportunity to remake the world, reconcile peoples, and realize humanity’s potential. Emphasizing the link between politics and aesthetics, Gary Wilder reads Césaire and Senghor as pragmatic utopians, situated humanists, and concrete cosmopolitans whose postwar insights can illuminate current debates about self-management, postnational politics, and planetary solidarity. Freedom Time invites scholars to decolonize intellectual history and globalize critical theory, to analyze the temporal dimensions of political life, and to question the territorialist assumptions of contemporary historiography.
Book Synopsis French Foreign Policy in a Changing World by : Pernille Rieker
Download or read book French Foreign Policy in a Changing World written by Pernille Rieker and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-18 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates how modern French foreign policy is practiced. France finds its traditional power status challenged by internal as well as external developments. Internally, it faces societal challenges related to unemployment, integration, social exclusion, Islamist terrorism and the rise of populism. Externally, its status is challenged by global and regional developments – including the financial crises, competition from emerging states, EU enlargement and a more powerful Germany. While the French recognise that they no longer have great-power economic or military power capacities, the conviction of the universal value of French civilization and culture remains strong. As this book argues, for France to be able to punch above its weight in international politics, it must effectively promote the value of ‘French universalism’ and culture. This study investigates how this is reflected in modern French foreign policy by examining foreign policy practices towards selected regions/countries and in relation to external and internal security. Written by a senior researcher specializing in French and EU foreign and security policy, this book will be an invaluable resource for practitioners of foreign policy and students of French politics, international relations and European studies.

Book Synopsis French Global by : Christie McDonald
Download or read book French Global written by Christie McDonald and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recasting French literary history in terms of the cultures and peoples that interacted within and outside of France's national boundaries, this volume offers a new way of looking at the history of a national literature, along with a truly global and contemporary understanding of language, literature, and culture. The relationship between France's national territory and other regions of the world where French is spoken and written (most of them former colonies) has long been central to discussions of "Francophonie." Boldly expanding such discussions to the whole range of French literature, the essays in this volume explore spaces, mobilities, and multiplicities from the Middle Ages to today. They rethink literary history not in terms of national boundaries, as traditional literary histories have done, but in terms of a global paradigm that emphasizes border crossings and encounters with "others." Contributors offer new ways of reading canonical texts and considering other texts that are not part of the traditional canon. By emphasizing diverse conceptions of language, text, space, and nation, these essays establish a model approach that remains sensitive to the specificities of time and place and to the theoretical concerns informing the study of national literatures in the twenty-first century.

Book Synopsis Geopolitics of French in Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa by : Ibrahima Diallo
Download or read book Geopolitics of French in Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa written by Ibrahima Diallo and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is comprehensive study of the geopolitical, geolinguistic, and geostrategic challenges facing France and the French language in post-independence Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa. It shows that, in Francophone sub-Saharan Africa, France’s reputation and image are significantly damaged. France has been accused of neo-colonial behaviour because of its repeated political and military interference in the domestic affairs of sovereign countries, its support of unpopular governments, and its stranglehold over the finances, economies and resources of Francophone sub-Saharan Africa. The book also highlights that the challenges faced by the French language in the region are complex because of the significant use of African languages and the growing attraction of English. Using Senegal as a case study to examine language use, attitudes, and languages education in this region, the book shows that the Senegalese people, like most Francophone sub-Saharan Africans, are strongly attached to their own languages, they are loyal to the French language, and they admire the English language. This text will be of interest to scholars in French and Francophone studies, applied linguists, African studies, and policy studies.
