Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four Voices, One Testimony is a different kind of gospel harmony. The four gospel accounts are not in parallel columns, but are meticulously combined as one voice in a continuous narrative. The details of all Jesus said and did are more easily seen and studied when the four gospel accounts are viewed in a combined narrative. The translation of the four gospels is the Author's. The combined narrative is chronologically arranged into 182 numbered events. These events are easily located through the table of contents, by page number in the print version, and hyperlink in the digital versions. An example. In each numbered event the applicable gospel accounts are combined to present the story of Jesus Christ. The advantage is seeing the whole story with all the details in one narrative. Four Voices, One Testimony has five indexes for the gospel student: a list of events with scriptures; scripture indexes for each of the four gospels. Any gospel scripture may be located by using one of the indexes.

Download or read book The Single Gospel written by Neil Averitt and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-09-17 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life of Jesus is at the heart of the Christian faith, and is one of the great works of Western literature. This book presents the story in a new form, more accessible than ever before. It weaves the four separate gospel accounts into one continuous story. And it presents the story in a new translation: traditional, but clear. Here the reader can find the episodes laid out in an understandable narrative sequence. The nativity at Bethlehem is followed by the visit of the wise men. And for each scene the rich details are collected from all the gospel accounts, giving a complete picture of complex events like the Sermon on the Mount or Jesus' climactic encounter with Pilate. The new language is clear as well. It is traditional scripture inconspicuously updated for modern readers, supplemented with contemporary language for difficult concepts, and using the grand and familiar language of the King James where appropriate. Low-key explanations fill in the details. Short footnotes explain the key concepts, and longer endnotes provide additional depth. This book opens the gospels to everyone--Christians who want to better understand their faith, and general readers who want to rediscover a great work of literature.
Download or read book Epic written by Brad Martin and published by . This book was released on 2014-09-19 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus Christ lived an epic life, yet reading about him can be an epic challenge. But what if the stories of Jesus from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were all combined into one story instead of four? And what if the stories were arranged in the order they happened? And what if they were translated into spoken American English? (Really!) And what if it read like a modern novel? What if we got rid of all those columns, and numbers, and references, and other people's notes? Now we are talking Epic!At last...the life of Jesus for anyone wanting to enjoy reading an Epic story (without dozing) and answer the question millions have asked..."Who is this man?"Part of the appeal of Epic is it's neutrality outside the Gospel accounts. The authors intentionally created this work and translation without surrounding commentary or opinion so that the life of Jesus can stand on its own. This will make it a great literary choice for schools and others who wish to read about Jesus without others including what they should believe or do with the story. The authors left out no detail from any gospel. This created quite the challenge to harmonize and synthesize every account. In the Kindle version, both the black and white and color versions are included. The color version of Epic assigns each gospel a color: Matthew/Blue, Mark/Red, Luke/Green, John/Purple. In this way, the reader is able to identify what each gospel author uniquely contributes to each story. Black print indicates that two or more authors wrote the same thing. This makes Epic a great tool for study.A table is included as an appendix for easy reference for all four gospels, and it is hypertexted in the Kindle version.

Book Synopsis The Four Vision Quests of Jesus by : Steven Charleston
Download or read book The Four Vision Quests of Jesus written by Steven Charleston and published by Church Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-05-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique look at Christian biblical interpretation and theology from the perspective of Native American tradition. This book focuses on four specific experiences of Jesus as portrayed in the synoptic gospels. It examines each story as a “vision quest,” a universal spiritual phenomenon, but one of particular importance within North American indigenous communities. Jesus’ experience in the wilderness is the first quest. It speaks to a foundational Native American value: the need to enter into the “we” rather than the “I.” The Transfiguration is the second quest, describing the Native theology of transcendent spirituality that impacts reality and shapes mission. Gethsemane is the third quest. It embodies the Native tradition of the holy men or women, who find their freedom through discipline and concerns for justice, compassion, and human dignity. Golgotha is the final quest. It represents the Native sacrament of sacrifice (e.g., the Sun Dance). The chapter on Golgotha is a discussion of kinship, balance, and harmony: all primary to Native tradition and integral to Christian thought.

Book Synopsis The Gospel of John by : Frederick Dale Bruner
Download or read book The Gospel of John written by Frederick Dale Bruner and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02-22 with total page 1479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of a much-loved two volume Matthew commentary (1990) that he greatly revised and expanded fourteen years later, Frederick Dale Bruner now offers The Gospel of John: A Commentary -- more rich fruit of his lifetime of study and teaching. Rather than relying primarily on recent scholarship, Bruner honors and draws from the church's major John commentators throughout history, including Augustine, Chrysostom, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, Bultmann, Barrett, and many more. Alongside this "historical interpretation" is Bruner's own contemporary interpretation, which incorporates a lucid translation of the text, references to recent scholarship, and his pastoral application of the Gospel to present-day experience. Like Bruner's other work, this commentary is rich in biblical insights, broadly historical, and deeply theological. Here is what Eugene Peterson said about Bruner's earlier work on Matthew: "This is the kind of commentary I most want -- a theological wrestling with Scripture. Frederick Dale Bruner grapples with the text not only as a technical exegete (although he does that very well) but as a church theologian, caring passionately about what these words tell us about God and ourselves. His Matthew commentary is in the grand traditions of Augustine, Calvin, and Luther -- expansive and leisurely, loving the text, the people in it, and the Christians who read it." The same could well be said about the present John commentary, which promises to be another invaluable resource for pastors, teachers, and laypeople alike.
Book Synopsis Following Rabbi Jesus by : Phil Needham
Download or read book Following Rabbi Jesus written by Phil Needham and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-01-24 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following Rabbi Jesus is a surprising exposure of who the Jesus we find in the Gospels really is, what he teaches those who dare to follow him, and how he models what it means to live God's radical-kingdom way. The reader of the book will discover in this exploration a very different Jesus from the celebrity or hero of much popular church culture, the tame, ineffective Jesus of compromised Christianity, and the inaccessible, conceptual Christ of much academic theology. The reader who takes the chance of honestly engaging the Jesus we meet in the Gospel stories may find an engaging and liberating contrast to the life he is now living. He may even want to make a turn or two, and start over.
Download or read book Simply Christian written by N. T. Wright and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2010-02-09 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is justice fair? Why are so many people pursuing spirituality? Why do we crave relationship? And why is beauty so beautiful? N. T. Wright argues that each of these questions takes us into the mystery of who God is and what he wants from us. For two thousand years Christianity has claimed to answer these mysteries, and this renowned biblical scholar and Anglican bishop shows that it still does today. Like C. S. Lewis did in his classic Mere Christianity, Wright makes the case for Christian faith from the ground up, assuming that the reader is starting from ground zero with no predisposition to and perhaps even some negativity toward religion in general and Christianity in particular. His goal is to describe Christianity in as simple and accessible, yet hopefully attractive and exciting, a way as possible, both to say to outsides ÔYou might want to look at this further,Ö and to say to insiders ÔYou may not have quite understood this bit clearly yet.Ö
