Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mick Cooper and John McLeod pioneer a major new framework for counselling theory, practice and research - the ′pluralistic′ approach. This model breaks away from the orientation-specific way in which counselling has traditionally been taught, reflecting and responding to shifts in counselling and psychotherapy training. As accessible and engaging as ever, Cooper and McLeod argue that there is no one right way of doing therapy and that different clients need different things at different times. By identifying and demonstrating the application of a range of therapeutic methods, the book outlines a flexible framework for practice within which appropriate methods can be selected depending on the client′s individual needs and the therapist′s knowledge and experience. This is a must-read for anybody training or practising in the counselling or helping professions - it should not be missed!

Book Synopsis Behavioral, Humanistic-Existential, and Psychodynamic Approaches to Couples Counseling by : Michael D. Reiter
Download or read book Behavioral, Humanistic-Existential, and Psychodynamic Approaches to Couples Counseling written by Michael D. Reiter and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-01-27 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Couples counseling is distinct from individual and family therapy and, while ideas from these other formats may be overlapping, applying theoretical concepts to couples has distinctive challenges. Behavioral, Humanistic-Existential, and Psychodynamic Approaches to Couples Counseling is unique in that it addresses how to conceptualize various theories around a single case. By discussing only one case, the reader is more readily able to compare and contrast the theoretical ideas of each theory, as well as the pragmatics of techniques. Five theories are discussed around four consistent parts: history, theory of problem formation, theory of problem resolution, and case transcript.

Book Synopsis Theories of Counseling and Psychotherapy by : Nancy L. Murdock
Download or read book Theories of Counseling and Psychotherapy written by Nancy L. Murdock and published by . This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "My theory helps me calm down and sort out what initially seems chaotic. In each chapter of this book I have tried to present the various theories in a straightforward, understandable way. What distinguishes this book from others is that I immediately illustrate the application of a construct or process by showing how it relates to a client case described at the beginning of the chapter. I chose to use different client cases for each chapter for at least two reasons: First, I wanted to show that theory could apply to clients who range across the broad spectrum of individual and cultural diversity and present with many kinds of distress. Second, I did not want my readers to lose interest from reading about the same case chapter after chapter. In essence, I have tried to make this book as engaging as I possibly could without compromising the intellectual quality of the presentations. However, it is an engaging and useful exercise to apply different theories to the same case, so I would urge the users of this book to undertake this task as a way of comparing the approaches in a meaningful way. The Theories I Chose A question always arises about which theories to include in a text like this one. Some choices are obvious; others less so. I included classical psychoanalysis-even though true analysis may not be common these days-because it is the foundation of the profession and the springboard for many other systems. If you ever write something that generates as much love and hate as Freud's work did, you have really created something important. I chose other theoretical approaches based on several criteria: (a) currency-whether the theory is used by professionals in the real world; (b) potential to contribute to an understanding of the counseling process even if the reader does not adopt the theory wholesale; and (c) comprehensiveness-the extent to which the theory provides a conceptual structure as well as guidelines for counseling and associated techniques"--
Book Synopsis Psychotherapy Integration by : George Stricker
Download or read book Psychotherapy Integration written by George Stricker and published by Theories of Psychotherapy. This book was released on 2010 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Psychotherapy Integration, George Stricker discusses the history, theory, and practice of this approach to therapy. Although no single therapeutic model claims a majority of practitioners, the most frequently endorsed approach is integrative or eclectic therapy. This attests to the reality of modern psychotherapy practice, which is that almost every therapist uses, at least in part, psychotherapy integration. Psychotherapy integration looks beyond the confines of single-school approaches to see what can be learned and incorporated from other perspectives. Integration involves not only taking techniques from other models and applying them in different approaches - something usually categorized as eclecticism - but also attending to the relationship between technique and theory. This brief introduction describes the full range of psychotherapy integration models, including the common factors approach, technical integration, theoretical integration, and assimilative integration, with a particular focus on the last approach. In this book, the author presents and explores psychotherapy integration, its theory, history, the therapy process, primary change mechanisms, empirical basis, and future developments. This essential primer, amply illustrated with case examples featuring diverse clients, is perfect for graduate students studying theories of therapy and counseling as well as for seasoned practitioners interested in understanding this approach. It is part of the ""Theories of Psychotherapy"".
