Book Synopsis In Situ Investigations of Foundation Soils at Two Building Sites, Detroit Arsenal by : Robert F Ballard (Jr)
Download or read book In Situ Investigations of Foundation Soils at Two Building Sites, Detroit Arsenal written by Robert F Ballard (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In situ investigations of the foundation soils at two sites for the proposed Track and Suspension Laboratory Building were performed. The primary dynamic investigations were conducted in two phases: seismic tests and vibration tests. Each type of test was designed to reveal specific information relative to the physical properties of the soil underlying the test sites. From the test data and the wet unit weight of the soil, compression and shear moduli of the foundation soils were computed for various depth ranges to a depth of 75 ft at site 1 and about 60 ft at site 2. Book Synopsis Rapid Visual Screening of Buildings for Potential Seismic Hazards: Supporting Documentation by :
Download or read book Rapid Visual Screening of Buildings for Potential Seismic Hazards: Supporting Documentation written by and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2015 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rapid Visual Screening (RVS) handbook can be used by trained personnel to identify, inventory, and screen buildings that are potentially seismically vulnerable. The RVS procedure comprises a method and several forms that help users to quickly identify, inventory, and score buildings according to their risk of collapse if hit by major earthquakes. The RVS handbook describes how to identify the structural type and key weakness characteristics, how to complete the screening forms, and how to manage a successful RVS program.

Book Synopsis Proposed Guidelines for Site Investigations for Foundations of Nuclear Power Plants by :
Download or read book Proposed Guidelines for Site Investigations for Foundations of Nuclear Power Plants written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Site investigations for nuclear power plants are necessary to determine the geotechnical conditions that affect the design, cost, performance, and safety of the plants. Major considerations for analysis and design include the bearing capacity of foundation materials, the total and differential settlements of structures under static and earthquake loading conditions, the stability of cuts and slopes in soil and rock under static and earthquake loading conditions, the propagation of earthquake-induced motions through underlying deposits, and the potential for liquefaction of soils. The stability of foundations during construction must also be assured. The purpose of the proposed guidelines is to describe programs of geological and engineering site investigations that would be adequate to evaluate the safety of the site and to provide the parameters needed for engineering analysis and design of foundations and earthworks. General requirements for site investigations are discussed. Methods of subsurface investigation, including their applicability, limitations, and pitfalls, and described. Proposed rules for spacing and depth of subsurface exploration for various kinds of seismic Category I structures are given. (Author).
Book Synopsis Decision Based Design by : Vijitashwa Pandey
Download or read book Decision Based Design written by Vijitashwa Pandey and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-08-26 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a presentation that formalizes what makes up decision based design, Decision Based Design defines the major concepts that go into product realization. It presents all major concepts in design decision making in an integrated way and covers the fundamentals of decision analysis in engineering design. It also trains engineers to understand the impacts of design decision. The author teaches concepts in demand modeling and customer preference modeling and provides examples. This book teaches most fundamental concepts encountered in engineering design like: concept generation, multiattribute decision analysis, reliability engineering, design optimization, simulation, and demand modeling. The book provides the tools engineering practitioners and researchers need to first understand that engineering design is best viewed as a sequence of decisions made by the stakeholders involved and then apply the decision based design concepts in practice. It teaches fundamental concepts encountered in engineering design, such as concept generation, multiattribute decision analysis, reliability engineering, design optimization, simulation, and demand modeling. This book helps students and practitioners understand that there is a rigorous way to analyze engineering decisions taking into consideration all the potential technical and business impacts of their decisions. It can be used in its entirety to teach a course in decision based design, while selected chapters can also be used to cover courses in subdisciplines that make up decision based design.
