Download or read book Fly Fishing California Stillwaters written by Bill Sunderland and published by Mosca Loca Books. This book was released on 2003-11-01 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inclination of most fly-line anglers is to fish moving water. That's a mistake, because there are bigger trout in California's lakes and reservoirs. Stillwater trout don't have to work as hard fighting currents as those in streams and rivers. And many lakes are extremely rich in food for fish so trout just cruise around slurping up dinner and getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Fly Fishing California Stillwaters tells anglers where the best fishing can be found, offering directions, full-color maps and so much detail you'll never again arrive at a lake wondering what fly to use or where to start your search for trout. Interested? Then come join the hunt for big fish in California stillwaters. Book jacket.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Storied Waters chronicles the author’s six-week odyssey from Maine to Wisconsin and back to explore and fly fish America’s most storied waters and celebrate the writers and artists who made them famous. In a 5,000-mile odyssey covering over 50 locations in eight states, Van Wie follows and fishes in the footsteps of giants from Thoreau to Hemingway, Robert Traver to Corey Ford, Louise Dickinson Rich to Aldo Leopold to Winslow Homer and many more. Storied Waters provides a virtual roadmap through 200 years of fly-fishing literature and a literal roadmap—complete with local fishing tips—to the hallowed waters of our sport. In each chapter, informative sidebars detail fishing spots, best times to fish, major hatches, and other intel. Storied Waters is a grand vicarious adventure, driving the backroads for weeks at a time exploring beautiful places, and meeting fascinating people who share a common interest. With an easy, conversational writing voice enhanced with spectacular photographs, Van Wie relates an eclectic mix of travel narrative, natural history, and fishing tips and advice, as well as a deep (but sometimes humorously irreverent) appreciation for the writers who have created such a rich legacy of stories about fishing over the past 200 years.
Download or read book Wild Trout written by Michael Carl and published by . This book was released on 2014-06-20 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wild Trout details ten of California's most scenic, diverse, and significant wild trout fisheries. In fact, the California Fish and Game Commission has included most of these streams within the state's "Wild Trout Program." Selecting the top ten wild trout streams in California began a process for me of choosing equal parts good fishing and good scenery. The exception being those streams holding bigger than average trout getting extra consideration. During the planning and design of this book, however, serious conflict characterized the selection process. As an angler I leaned strongly toward the trophy trout waters. But, as a photographer I got swept up in the visuals of a place. In the end, I went with my gut feel on which streams were my top 10 wild trout streams.
