Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the fundamentals of the elastic behaviour of erected precast segmental box girders (SBG) when subjected to static load, as well as the construction process (casting and erection work) involved. It analyzes and compares the experimental results with those obtained using the finite element method and theoretical calculations. A short-term deflection analysis for different loads is obtained by determining the maximum deflection, stress and strain value of single span precast SBG under a variety of transversal slope. The outcome of this work provides a better understanding of the behaviour of precast SBG in terms of structural responses as well as defects, so that maintenance work can then be focused on the critical section at mid span area specifically for the bridge project longitudinally and transversely. The book is of interest to industry professionals involved in conducting static load tests on bridges, and all researchers, designers, and engineers seeking to validate experimental work with numerical and analytical approaches.

This book was released on 2004 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The speed of construction has become the key issue for bridges. This is especially true in cold regions like Alaska, where you face a very short summer season. The speed of construction can be expedited by connections. As there are advantages in connections there are also disadvantages. One of the primary advantages of the connectors is that it makes the load transfer mechanism very efficient. However everything comes for a price. Maintenance of connections is very difficult. Routine inspections are to be made to ensure proper functioning of the system. This becomes a very important factor in Alaska where extreme winter conditions exists. Another issue is that the current connector design is based on an empirical approach. A rational design method is needed. In this study an effort has been made to find the presence of ISD on the live load distribution factor for single lane loading. Using ABAQUS CAE, 3D finite element (FE) models have been developed and analyzed with different parameters. By varying the parameters, different distribution factors corresponding to the reaction, strains (flexure and shear) as well as the forces originating from the connectors are evaluated and compared. This paper provides a basis for future connector design"--Leave iv.
Book Synopsis Finite Element Analysis of Prestressed Concrete Structures Using Post-Tensioning Steel by : Yu Huang
Download or read book Finite Element Analysis of Prestressed Concrete Structures Using Post-Tensioning Steel written by Yu Huang and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-28 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book details the theory and applications of finite element (FE) modeling of post-tensioned (PT) concrete structures, and provides the updated MATLAB code (as of 2019). The challenge of modeling PT prestressed concrete structures lies in the treatment of the interface between the concrete and prestressing tendons. Using MATLAB, this study develops an innovative nonlinear FE formulation which incorporates contact techniques and engineering elements to considerably reduce the need of computational power. This FE formulation has the ability to simulate different PT frame systems with fully bonded, fully unbonded or partially bonded tendons, as well as actual sliding behavior and frictional effects in the tendons. It also allows for the accurate simulation of anchor seating loss.

Book Synopsis Collapse analysis of externally prestressed structures by : Jens Tandler
Download or read book Collapse analysis of externally prestressed structures written by Jens Tandler and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2014-04-11 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Introduction: This dissertation is an investigation into the behaviour of externally prestressed structures, focusing on bridge box girders, at the ultimate limit state. The main objective is the ductility and the tendon stress increase up to failure of externally prestressed structures. Their behaviour will be compared to internally prestressed structures. The dissertation may have valuable information for the first stages of the design process for medium span bridges as the study is concerned about the overall safety and efficiency of prestressed concrete bridges by the means of ductility. The aim is also to provide information about the tendon stress at failure, which is required for the detailed design. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Finite Element Design of Concrete Structures: practical problems and their solutions the author addresses this blind belief in computer results by offering a useful critique that important details are overlooked due to the flood of information from the output of computer calculations. Indeed, errors in the numerical model may lead in extreme cases to structural failures as the collapse of the so-called Sleipner platform has demonstrated.

This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kansas Department of Transportation's (KDOT) Bridge 059-045 is a reinforced concrete box girder bridge constructed in 1965 to connect the rural Shawnee Drive across Interstate 135 near McPhearson, Kansas, in between Salina and Wichita. The bridge was observed, during an annual inspection in 1998, to have experienced some settlement, which was further found to be due to its proximity to a sinkhole. This settlement progressed to noticeable levels in 2012 necessitating a semi-annual elevation profile survey that was consistently conducted by KDOT. In April 2016, KDOT determined that the bridge required a detailed finite element analysis to determine the safety and suitability of the bridge to stay open to traffic. Accordingly, a two-level Finite Element Analysis was performed using RISA 3D and Abaqus to assess the level of distress in the bridge due to the continuous differential settlement as a result of the active sinkhole deep in the soil under the bridge. The force-moment results were taken from the RISA 3D model for further analysis of various structural components that make up the bridge, including the box girder, piers, and piles. The stress distribution results from the Abaqus model were investigated for the same components of the bridge. A strengthening design scheme using near surface mounted fiber reinforced polymer rebar was developed to extend the service life of the bridge.
