Book Synopsis Studies In Family Planning: India by :
Download or read book Studies In Family Planning: India written by and published by Abhinav Publications. This book was released on 2003-06 with total page 894 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a programme of directed socialand behavioural change, Family Planning has made considerable progress in India. An impressive library of family planning research has also been created in the process. There is, however, a disturbing communication gap between the research and the policy maker / planner-administrator. Research findings do not get canalized into action programmes. These two remain discrete activities with very little of interface between them. One of the reasons for this is lack of systematization of research findings. A stage has been reached when the stock-taking of the existing body of research has become necessary to provide a sort of ‘system’ or ‘order’ to the widely scattered data and findings, and to identify research gaps. This double exercise will render current research utilizable, and will stimulate further research. This is what Professor Kamala Gopal Rao does in this book. A distinguished researcher in the field of family planning, Dr. Rao has attempted to summarize and present in common format over 500 studies conducted in India, between 1950-1973, on different aspects of family planning. The main findings of the studies are critically reviewed for their relevance to the ongoing family planning programme. She has also reviewed the methodologies employed in family planning research. She suggests strategies to promote utilization of research. The book fulfils the much felt need for a ready reference for researchers and a guide to administrators, policy makers, and programme planners concerned with family planning.

Book Synopsis Fertility Control in a Risk Society by : Zakir Husain
Download or read book Fertility Control in a Risk Society written by Zakir Husain and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the reasons for relying on behavioural contraception methods among urban ‘elites’ in India and examines their efficacy in controlling fertility. It also traces variations in contraception choice over the reproductive cycle of women. Although researchers and policy makers generally equate reliance on behavioural contraceptive methods with low levels of education and awareness and lack of desire to control fertility, this perception has been questioned in recent years. The authors’ analysis of the first three rounds of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) data in India reveals that behavioural contraceptive methods are popular in eastern India. Moreover, it is urban educated women who rely on behavioural methods, and are apparently able to regulate fertility quite effectively with such methods. NFHS data, however, has some limitations and this motivates the authors to explore birth control methods through primary surveys of currently married graduate women in Kolkata. The use of behavioural contraception methods is a little researched area globally and this is the first book focusing on the topic in India.
Book Synopsis Reproductive Health Behavior and Decision-making of Muslim Women by : Constanze Weigl
Download or read book Reproductive Health Behavior and Decision-making of Muslim Women written by Constanze Weigl and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2010 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a consequence of the politicization of religion in India, the study of Islam in fertility is a highly sensitive issue. How do Muslim women make decisions relating to their fertility and practice of contraception? How do factors as socio-cultural norms, socioeconomic constraints, national family planning policies, and Islamic legal tenets affect women's reproductive health behavior? This ethnographic study answers these questions by analyzing the local context, in which the lives of these low-income Muslim women are embedded. Theories and concepts of demography are also explored and critically reflected on.
Book Synopsis Family Structure and Fertility by : G N Ramu
Download or read book Family Structure and Fertility written by G N Ramu and published by SAGE Publications Pvt. Limited. This book was released on 1988-03-02 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ramu analyses the relationship between changing family structure and fertility patterns in an Indian city. He shows that fertility decisions are made not only in relation to the couple's own marital and familial aspirations, but also with regard to the social environment in which the children are raised. Most of the couples in the study were decisively in favour of small families, defining large ones as a source of potential strain for themselves and their children. This suggests that the values governing the size of families are being redefined and will eventually have an impact on population growth.
