Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Female genital malformations represent miscellaneous deviations from normal anatomy. With a prevalence of approximately 6% in the general population, they might be associated with health problems, potentially dangerous complications or poor reproductive outcome depending on the type and the degree of the anatomical abnormality. During the last two decades the better understanding of their pathogenesis, the availability of new non-invasive techniques for their diagnosis and the increased experience from their treatment have radically changed their management. A new, clinically oriented classification system has now been developed facilitating their evidence-based appraisal. It is a reality that the management of female genital malformations has changed rapidly during the last few years from an experience based and mainly descriptive field to a scientific evidence-based one. This book presents all uterine, cervical and vaginal anomalies in a systematic way and the new ESHRE/ESGE classification system utilised for their categorization. In addition, their embryogenesis and etiology are summarized. The diagnostic work-up of women with female genital malformations is reviewed in an evidence-based fashion and taking into account the availability of new non-invasive diagnostic methods. The treatment strategy and the therapeutic alternatives to restore health and reproductive problems associated with their presence are critically reviewed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The response to the First Edition of this text confirmed our belief that there was a need for a book of this kind. The multi-authored approach has been retained, ensuring that authoritative, current information is incorporated into each chapter and that references are up-to-date. The section on diseases of the vagina has been enhanced by a greater emphasis on the clinical aspects. The chapter on DES induced lesions has been updated with the data of the DeSAD study and the section on adenocar cinoma of the cervix has been enlarged by the description of the undifferenti ated lesions including "glassy cell and signet cell" carcinoma. A departure from the traditional chapter approach has been made in the discussion of endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma in order to present a conceptual view of these diseases. A similar presentation of diseases of the myometrium has been made. The subjects of lymphomas and mesenchymal tumors of the ovary have been enlarged upon and presented in a separate chapter. Fine needle aspiration in the diagnosis of ovarian tumors and of non malignant disorders of the ovary has become an increasingly useful technique. Two new chapters have been added to cover this subject. Many of the changes made in the second edition were in response to reviewers of the First Edition. It is hoped that their constructive suggestions have been addressed. Ancel Blaustein, M.D.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive, up-to-date reference on general and subspecialty gynecology. Covering all aspects of gynecology commonly encountered in day-to-day practice, this exhaustive and fully updated new edition provides a practical, one-stop reference work for clinicians working in the field. This carefully-designed volume includes ten sections, beginning with comprehensive coverage of office-based gynecology, and continuing on to present disease processes and management information by patient age group. Each chapter includes background information, current recommendations for screening, diagnostic criteria, common and uncommon associated problems, approach to diagnosis, summary of treatment options, and an overview of ICD-10 codes for specific diagnoses. Importantly, many areas that are covered in the handbook as subspecialty problems are pertinent and important information to many of the general practitioners who handle and develop some expertise in these areas. These include ovulation induction, medical management of incontinence, management of abnormal Pap smears, and work-up of abnormal bleeding. The handbook concludes with an easy-to-navigate presentation of minimally-invasive operations, surgical procedures, neoplasms, and pathology. Advantages and risks associated with management of particular diseases are covered, along with multiple tips for avoiding complications. This second edition is fully updated. With extensive updates on cervical cancer screening, pelvic organ prolapse, and more, many chapters will be completely rewritten to reflect the latest guidelines, procedures, and methods of care in women’s health. The text additionally includes two new chapters, covering the impact of COVID on gynecology care, and the work-up and surgical management of chronic pelvic pain. This is an ideal guide for practicing gynecologists, family and internal medicine physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, fellows, residents, medical students, and all women’s health care providers.

Working in the prenatal diagnosis field requires dedication, patience, skills, experience, caution, and empathy. The concept of this book was guided by the desire to provide some help to the ultrasound operators. On a daily basis, they are confronted with the challenging task of ruling out or suspecting/confirming the diagnosis of fetal anomalies, either structural or chromosomal. The chapters of this book contain objective and exhaustive updated reviews of the pertinent literature, so that the reader would have a wide reference basis on each subject. Yet, many authors scan the fetus themselves or are directly involved with managing pregnancies with structural malformations or chromosomal anomalies. They kindly shared their personal experience and lessons learned over the years. This book is beneficial for all the professionals working in the prenatal diagnosis.

Book excerpt: This book is the product of long years of close collaboration between two physicians, a pediatric endocrinologist and a pediatric surgeon, who are interested in the complex field of human malformations. Their efforts have set a new standard in the treatment of children with intersexual or mal formed female genitalia. It is impossible to convey the details of complex surgical procedures without the help of meticulous illustrations. It is fortunate that happened to meet an academically trained artist, Mrs. Siri Mills, M.A., while visiting in the United States. Her excellent knowledge of anatomy, her remarkable skills as an artist and technical illustrator, and her readiness to include all details of interest to the surgeon have found their fruitful expression in the illustrations of this book. We express our thanks to Springer-Verlag and especially to Prof. Diet rich Goetze, at whose suggestion this book was written, for their amiable compliance with all our wishes, and particularly for their willingness to retain Mrs. Mills as our illustrator. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third edition of Pediatric Urogenital Radiology has been thoroughly updated to take account of the recent advances in the imaging and treatment of pediatric nephro-urologic disorders that have been achieved over the past years. A number of new chapters have been included on topics such as the role of ultrasound and MRI for urogenital imaging in the fetus and the use of contrast media in childhood. Other chapters have been extensively revised or rewritten, while information that continues to be pertinent has been retained. The book describes in detail all aspects of pediatric urogenital radiology. It is written primarily from the point of view of the radiologist, but also includes essential clinical information from and for the pediatrician, pediatric surgeon, and urologist. It is specifically designed to aid the clinician in making decisions on imaging management, and to help the radiologist to understand the clinical background and needs. The newest techniques and the changing relevance of imaging and interventional procedures are described, and the diverse problems associated with the changing anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology from the newborn period to adulthood are explained. The whole spectrum of imaging features of agenesis, anomalies and malformations, dysplasia, parenchymal and cystic diseases, urolithiasis, neoplastic diseases, renal vascular hypertension, renal failure, renal transplantation, pre-and postoperative imaging, and genitourinary trauma is covered. Individual chapters are devoted to vesicoureteric reflux, urinary tract infection, congenital urinary tract dilatation, upper urinary tract dilatation, voiding dysfunction, and neurogenic bladder. A chapter on the clinical management of common nephrourologic disorders explains how imaging is embedded in the whole process of clinical management. Short conclusions are included at the end of chapters and sections to highlight the key information.
