This text is divided into 12 chapters that focus on make-believe as an activity within which young children spontaneously represent and practice their understanding of the social world. The next chapters are devoted to the development of joint pretending, specifically the use if shared scripts in the organization of make-believe play and the subtleties of metacommunication. These chapters also emphasize the supporting role of the mother in early collaborative make-believe. These topics are followed by discussions of the child's growing ability to represent the internal states of the inanimate figures whose doing can vicariously enacts. The remaining chapters focus on social interaction through symbolic play with dolls, toy animals, object props, and language. Frank Casale was fifteen when he began penning a book of love lyrics inspired by a woman who, at the time, did not exist anywhere except in his imagination. Six years later, the completed collection found a home in a drawer where it sat for over thirty-five years. Still, Casale never lost hope that someday that woman would be a reality in his life, and after all these years, she finally is. In a diverse collection, Casale shares one hundred poems that lyrically explore varied themes and topics including a blind search for love, morning passion as the sun gently beams across a bed, the soft tone of a voice that echoes whispers of love, forever love that floods blood vessels with celestial passion, a life that is meant to be shared with another, and a lady of beauty who fills the soul with bliss. A Vineyard of Fervor is a poetic exploration of love as a young man first imagines and then later welcomes his one and only into his heart and soul forever.

Book Synopsis The Flying Flea, Callie, and Me by : Bill Wallace
Download or read book The Flying Flea, Callie, and Me written by Bill Wallace and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-07-15 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who ever heard of a cat that didn't eat birds? The house people had picked me out of my litter to be a mouser. Callie was getting too old for the job. So it was mine. But I didn't plan on getting dive-bombed by a mockingbird building her nest...or adopting the baby who fell out. No joke! I'm a cat, but I do not eat birds. Mice, yes. Birds, no. Flea -- that's what I named her -- couldn't even fly. She was so scared when she toppled onto my head that she said, "Eat me...it's quicker than starving to death." She was pathetic. I had to help her. The first step was protecting Flea -- and me -- from the monster rats in the barn (that's saying a mouthful!) and Bullsnake under the woodpile. Next, Callie and I had to teach Flea to fly. After all, how could she stay up North with us when her bird family was flying to Florida. I'm not a Florida kind of cat. It's just too hot for us furry types. I know I'll miss my Flea. But she'll come back -- after she's seen the world!

If you start to feel strange as you read, as if you’re going through some sort of transformation, quickly close the book and distance yourself from it, for there is a strong possibility the reader just might end up like one of the characters in the stories, just as the author has. About the Author Jeff Medeiros was born in Newport, RI in 1971. He has enjoyed reading ghost stories since he was a child, and even claims to have lived in several haunted locations. He spent part of his youth writing poetry, action adventure, science fiction, even lyrics to songs he would hear in his head until he found his true niche in the horror genre. Three of these stories in the first book are songs he wrote years before: “Night Things,” “Shark on the Shore,” and “The Eye of Cy.” An amazingly talented artist, Sasha Kouznetsov, also of Newport, was inspired to illustrate each story. Medeiros is also passionate at woodworking, taking much pride in making picture frames for the many illustrations, as well as several baby sized coffins, copper inlay and all, in which he carries his books about. His main inspirations are the great Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft. His stories are dark and weird, but remember, without weirdness there is no originality. Medeiros resides in Tiverton with his wife, Stephanie Bennett, and his cat Samwise, and is proud to have most of Maurice Sendak’s monsters tattooed on his back.
Book Synopsis Tragedy in the Age of Oprah by : Louis Fantasia
Download or read book Tragedy in the Age of Oprah written by Louis Fantasia and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2012-12-21 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an era of Twitter and televised therapy, it may seem that classic theatre has little place in contemporary society. Accustomed to the indulgences of a celebrity-driven culture, how can modern audiences understand and interpret classic works of drama? In Tragedy in the Age of Oprah: Essays on Five Great Plays, Louis Fantasia provides a provocative examination of the relationship between popular culture and classical tragedy. Making a persuasive argument for the lessons tragedy has to offer today’s audiences, Fantasia examines five enduring works of theatre: Euripides’ Medea, William Shakespeare’s King Lear, Jean Racine’s Phèdre, Friedrich Schiller’s Mary Stuart, and Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night. Fantasia discusses in detail each of these plays, framing them in a contemporary context that explores the suffering, responsibility, and identity that tragedy advocates. Each play is presented as an engaging, powerful encounter for the reader, recreating as closely as possible the impact of a great performance. A unique look at the role classical theatre can and should play in contemporary society, these essays reveal the lessons great plays have to teach us about ourselves. Directed toward theatre professionals and students, Tragedy in the Age of Oprah will also resonate with anyone interested in theatre, literature, and cultural studies.
