Book Synopsis Job and the Misrepresentation of God’s Character by : Troy J. Edwards
Download or read book Job and the Misrepresentation of God’s Character written by Troy J. Edwards and published by Troy Edwards. This book was released on with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many approach the book of Job with a number of presuppositions: God desires to test Job's faithfulness. God is controlling the actions of the devil. That God just might make you the next Job. These presuppositions demonstrate a failure to study the book of Job in the light of the full revelation of Father God found in Jesus Christ. Hence, Job is misused to present God as a capricious deity. In this book we will learn how a proper study of Job shows us that Satan’s plan was to discredit both God and Job. We will learn that God did not instigate Job’s trials, but showed the patriarch compassion by delivering him from the designs of Satan against him.
Book Synopsis The Lord SENT It by : Troy J. Edwards
Download or read book The Lord SENT It written by Troy J. Edwards and published by Troy Edwards. This book was released on with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are numerous places in Scripture where God says that He will “send” or is said to have “sent” a disaster, a plague, pestilence, delusion, an evil spirit, a cruel and ruthless enemy army, ferocious man-eating wild animals, and other harsh judgments. Atheists use such passages to castigate the God of the Bible. Some theologians use such passages to present theological views of God that make Him appear to be harsh, unloving, and unfair. Other Christians avoid such passages altogether, believing that certain parts of the Bible are too difficult or irrelevant. However, an often neglected principle of Bible interpretation is found in the statement that "God is said to 'send' or to 'have sent' that which He merely did not prevent or hinder." When we understand this truth then we get a better picture of the God who is exactly like Jesus Christ.
Book Synopsis God is Said to do that which He Only Permits by : Troy J. Edwards
Download or read book God is Said to do that which He Only Permits written by Troy J. Edwards and published by Troy Edwards. This book was released on 2015-12-04 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “It is usual in Scripture to attribute to the Supreme Power, acts which are virtually those of his instruments, and which he merely permits.” – Charles Edward Fraser-Tytler Many false charges have been leveled at God by His critics (atheists, agnostics, satanists, etc.) due to misreading the Bible. Part of the problem has been the failure to understand the idiomatic language used in the Ancient Near East, especially among the Hebrew people, from which our God inspired Scriptures have their origin. This failure has led to more misunderstandings about God and His inspired Word than we can attest to. While the Hebrews had numerous idioms I am fully persuaded that the most neglected one among theologians and Bible translators has been what I prefer to label as “the permission idiom”. This is the idiom that, as we will learn in this study, scholars tell us is one in which God is said to be the cause of that which He merely allowed or permitted or did not prevent from happening. May the Lord use this book to help you understand Him and your Bible better.
Book Synopsis Inconsistencies in Greek and Roman Religion. 1, Ter Unus by : H. S. Versnel
Download or read book Inconsistencies in Greek and Roman Religion. 1, Ter Unus written by H. S. Versnel and published by BRILL. This book was released on 1990 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first of a two-volume collection of studies in inconsistencies in Greek and Roman religion. Their common aim is to argue for the historical relevance of various types of ambiguity and dissonance. The first volume focuses on the central paradoxes in ancient henotheism. The term 'henotheism' -- a modern formation after the stereotyped acclamation: #EIS O QEOS# ("one is the god"), common to early Christianity and contemporaneous paganism -- denotes the specific devotion to one particular god without denying the existence of, or even cultic attention to, other gods. After its prime in the twenties and thirties of this century the term fell into disuse. Nonetheless, the notion of henotheism represents one of the most remarkable and significant shifts in Graeco-Roman religion and hence deserves fresh reconsideration.
Book Synopsis The Permissive Sense by : Troy J. Edwards
Download or read book The Permissive Sense written by Troy J. Edwards and published by Troy Edwards. This book was released on with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One does not have to read too far into the Bible to find that it says the following about Him: God hardened people’s hearts. God put lying spirits in the mouth of false prophets. God personally deceived prophets. God Blinded people to the truth. God inflicted sickness. God sent natural disasters. God moved people to sin. God tempted men. God intentionally gave men unrighteous laws. God created evil. And even more…. Such statements have presented insurmountable difficulties to Bible readers. Failure to understand them properly have led to doctrines that paint God in less than a favorable light. However, when we understand the permissive sense, most difficulties with such verses will disappear. This book will help you understand this important principle and will remove all doubt about God’s love, goodness, and holiness.

Book Synopsis Does God Send Sickness? by : Troy J. Edwards
Download or read book Does God Send Sickness? written by Troy J. Edwards and published by Troy Edwards. This book was released on 2020-08-26 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “God is said in Scripture to send what he can (but doth not) hinder from being sent.” – Edward Bird (1726)God has been taking the blame for sickness and disease for centuries. We have been told that He sends sickness as an aid to spiritual growth and piety or as a punishment for sin. Vast amounts of Scripture have been cited to support this claim. This idea has contributed to the lack of faith prevalent in the church today for healing and deliverance. After all, if God gave a person sickness then His willingness to heal is questionable. Faith can only be present where the will of God is known. However, if sickness is seen as an enemy of God then faith in God’s willingness to heal is more likely to rise.Numerous apologetic books have been written in support of divine healing, but most have not dealt completely with the many Biblical passages that appear to make God the direct cause of sickness. This book is different in that it will look at these difficult Bible passages in light of the permissive idiom of the ancient Hebrew language, in which God is often said to do the things that He merely allowed or permitted to happen. Those passages in both the Old and New Testaments that make God appear to be a cold and cruel dispenser of sickness and disease will be seen in a new light. You will see God’s loving character vindicated, your Bible will be a fresh source of blessing, and your faith in God for health and healing will soar.

Book Synopsis Methodism and the Rise of Popular Literary Criticism by : Brett McInelly
Download or read book Methodism and the Rise of Popular Literary Criticism written by Brett McInelly and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-01 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how Methodism and popular review criticism intersected with and informed each other in the eighteenth century. Methodism emerged at a time when the idea of a ‘public square’ was taking shape, a process facilitated by the periodical press. Perhaps more so than any previous religious movement, Methodism, and the publications associated with it, received greater scrutiny largely because of periodical literature and the emergence of popular review criticism. The book considers in particular how works addressing Methodism were discussed and critiqued in the era’s two leading literary periodicals – The Monthly Review and The Critical Review. Focusing on the period between 1749 and 1789, the study encompasses the formative years of popular review criticism and some of the more dramatic moments in the textual culture of early Methodism. The author illustrates some of the specific ways these review journals diverged in their critical approaches and sensibilities as well as their politics and religious opinions. The Monthly’s and the Critical’s responses to the Methodists’ own publishing efforts as well as the anti-Methodist critique are shown to be both multifaceted and complex. The book critically reflects on the pretended neutrality, reasonableness, and objectivity of reviewers, who at times found themselves negotiating between the desire to regulate literary tastes and the impulse to undermine the Methodist revival. It will be relevant to scholars of religion, history and literary studies with an interest in Methodism, print culture, and the eighteenth century.
