Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Forceful talent" (Essence Magazine) and R&B sensation Faith Evans gives us a first person account of life at ground zero of the most infamous part of hip-hop history. It's been over ten years since Big was killed. I grieved for him for a very long time. And then, as time passed, the icy wall of grief surrounding my heart began to thaw and I began to heal. I remarried, had more children, and continued to record and release more music. I continued to live my life. And while I can never discount the time I spent with Big, I've never felt the need to live in the past. But sometimes, I still find myself thinking about Big being rushed the hospital, and I break down in tears. It's not just because we hung up on each other during what would be our last telephone conversation. And it's not because I am raising our son, a young man who has never known his father. It's partly all of those things. But mainly it's because he wasn't ready to go. His debut album was called Ready to Die. But in the end, he wasn't. Big never got a chance to tell his story. It's been left to others to tell it for him. In making the decision to tell my own story, it means that I've become one of those who can give insight to who Big really was. But I can only speak on what he meant to me. Yet I also want people to understand that although he was a large part of my life, my story doesn't actually begin or end with Big's death. My journey has been complicated on many levels. And since I am always linked to Big, there are a lot of misconceptions about who I really am. I hope that in reading my words, there is inspiration to be found. Perhaps you can duplicate my success or achieve where I have failed. Maybe you can skip over the mistakes I've made. Use my life as an example-of what to do and in some cases, what not to do. It's not easy putting your life out there for the masses. But I've decided I'll tell my own story. For Big. For my children. And for myself.

In Singing in the Dark, Ginny Owens introduces the reader to powerful ways of drawing closer to God and how the elements of music, prayer, and lament offer rich, vibrant, and joyful communion with Him, especially on the darkest days. Ginny has gained a unique life perspective, as she has lived without sight since age three. She brings rich, biblical teaching that will encourage readers and compel them to dig deep into the beautiful songs, prayers, and poetry of Scripture—the same words through which the people of the Bible flourished in impossible circumstances. Singing in the Dark includes reflection and journaling prompts at the end of each chapter.

Book excerpt: "Have a Little Faith is not merely a fan's notes; this is a riveting book that tells the stories of one of our greatest roots musicians and the tenacity that's grown out of his enduring passion for music." — No Depression A journey through an artist's quest for success, deep dive into substance abuse, family tragedy, and ultimate triumph By the mid-1980s, singer-songwriter John Hiatt had been dropped from three record labels, burned through two marriages, and had fallen deep into substance abuse. It took a stint in rehab and a new marriage to inspire him, then a producer and an A&R man to have a little faith. By February 1987, he was back in the studio on a shoestring budget with a hand-picked supergroup consisting of Ry Cooder on guitar, Nick Lowe on bass, and Jim Keltner on drums, recording what would become his masterpiece, Bring the Family. Based on author Michael Elliott's multiple extensive and deeply personal interviews with Hiatt as well as his collaborators and contemporaries, including Rosanne Cash, Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, and many others, Have a Little Faithis the journey through the musical landscape of the 1960s through today that places Hiatt's long career in context with the glossy pop, college-alternative, mainstream country, and heartland rock of the last half-century. Hiatt's life both pre- and post-Family will be revealed, as well as the music loved by critics, fellow musicians, and fans alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many things in life that move you, but there are some things you are born with in which you have the power to move others. This is called being anointed by God. We all have a gift to do something, and it is up to us to find out what that gift is and use it for the right reasons to glorify God. Singing came to me. I did not choose it. I just opened my mouth, and I could sing, and it came easy. I just needed to hone my gift by understanding how it worked so I could use it to its fullest potential as well as maintain it by understanding how to take care of it. My love for music is who I am. I was not told I had to do it. I just did it because I loved it just that much. I knew whenever I would sing, I would find myself closer to a place of peacefulness and harmony with my higher self. As I grew stronger in what moved me to do what I loved. I learned that I could do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I did not let fear deter my calling. Even though I was very much afraid, I knew I had to do it because it was God's will. Some people are born with many gifts, and some are born with one, but it is not because one gift is greater than the other because your calling is different. I have learned that if you have the faith the size of a mustard seed, you can move mountains. This means you can do anything you feel is calling out to you. Through my journey, I have learned I am able to move mountains in my life. One is called fear because it is fear that keeps us from being our best self. We have been told, "Don't do this," "Don't do that," because it will hurt you, so we learn fear, but we don't learn how to conquer it until we become adults, and for some not even then because we choose to stay comfortable and complacent with the effects of what fear does to us. We are always evolving into our better self, but we must forget about what we can't do and focus more so on what we can do when we have the faith the size of a mustard seed. This pain is not meant to last, but we have to keep moving on, move on, move on. There's no storm that can stop you. There's no wind that can move you. There's no cloud that can stop the sun from shining through. Just move on. 2

Book excerpt: A riveting tale of unfathomable success great joy deep pain, and redemption that can come only from above. From a working-class background in North Carolina to a job as a cook and club singer in Nashville to his "overnight success" with his smash 1986 album Storms of Life--which launched the neotraditional movement in country music--Randy's first three decades are a true rags-to-riches story. But in 2009, this seemingly charmed life began a downward spiral. His marriage dissolved, he discovered that his finances had unraveled, and his struggles with anger led to alcohol abuse, public embarrassment, and even police arrest in 2012. Then, just as he was putting his life back together, Randy suffered a devastating viral cardiomyopathy that led to a massive stroke which he was not expected to survive. Yet he not only survived but also learned to walk again and, in 2016, accepted his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame by singing the hymn that explains his life today: "Amazing Grace." Filled with never-before-told stories, Forever and Ever, Amen is a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at dizzying success and the miraculous road to restoration.
